  1. A valid question. Kinda ironic because I was going to post here today anyway. I'm wrapping up Bowser's Road now, so it's about 95% complete. Really just need someone to cover file select, but I've been hitting some people up PM's. We'll see!
  2. Yeah, Fishy's right. Very cool concept and generally good production execution, but not enough Halo here. (one note: I'd add 2:00-2:03 and 3:40-3:46 as source usage as well) NO
  3. Hey guys. I just finished this track for a remix contest, so I thought I'd share it here: https://soundcloud.com/nutritiousmusic/jayce-lewis-nutritious Original track by Jayce Lewis: Let me know what you think.
  4. Really good stuff here from Main Finger (which finger IS the main finger? do I want to know?). Lots of energy here and you've managed what IMO is the hardest part about producting dubstep: getting a good set of gritty synths and putting them together in a way where they compliment and play off each other in an interesting way. Lead felt a bit hot in the high freqs - as a matter of fact the track is leaning towards the higher end in general, as deia alluded to. A nice sub bass would really fill out the low end and complete the picture. I remember your stuff from some OCR competitions and liking what I heard. This has a bit of room for improvement, but it doesn't disappoint. YES
  5. My fellow J's have left some very good crits above and I find myself agreeing with the NO votes here. I won't rehash on what's already been said, but I'll try to elaborate on some other items. For the amount of energy you're going for, the drums really don't have the tone or punch to back it up. The snare specifically sounds buried and a bit garbled. The hihat is very static sounding as it plays the same tone and velocity repeatedly on each offbeat. Kick isn't as much of an offender as the rest, but still could use a bit more presence/powah. The part writing is the real strength here, but the production still has a ways to go to catch up. NO resubmit, please
  6. Gonna sign off on the robotic/rigid issues mentioned about. That's the tough part about solo piano pieces is it's that much more important to have effective dynamics and humanization. NO, resubmit please
  7. I have a working theory that Larry and Palp are the same person. I mean, I've never seen them in the same room at the same time - have you? (I've never met Palp) Anyway, this is really great proggy stuff from fisshy. Given the links of artists' tracks he's sent in the past, this should come as no surprise. He's really showing off his arrangement chops here with the constant switches in styles, writing, and instrumentation. Production is clean as we expect from his previous work. I was stuck a bit by the intro dryness as well, but yeah, it all gels together quickly. Yes
  8. Really good critiques from DA above. The beats and wubs are well produced and sound good, but beyond that, the rest of the elements (including those that offer source connection, are pretty bland and buried underneath. Drums could use some more variation as well. There's quite a bit of reverb on a lot of elements, whichy muddies up the soundscape at various times. Sounds like that'll need to be cut back a bit. Track definitely could use further development as, once it gets established, we basically get the copy/paste treatment as the track goes on. I know I didn't say much about it, but the drum & wub bass parts are really well done here. Put the same amount of time & effort into the rest of the elemnts as you did those two and this song will be in really good shape. No, resubmit please
  9. Honestly, I can't add much to what's already been said. You guys (and girl) have put together a very beautiful, expressive track. Production is solid and arrangement is well executed. One gripe I would point out is some awkward vocal notes leading into the key change at 4:27. No dealbreaker for me there, though. Yes
  10. Hey, thanks for the messsage. It's just good old East West Quantum Leap Orchestra Silver Edition. It's pretty old now, and there is better stuff out there, but I don't think you could beat it's price with anything of similar quality.

  11. Gonna agree that this doesn't sound developed far enough. There are some good added elements and interesting textures. Melodic treatment is pretty straightforward from the original for a lot of the track, so there's room for interpretation there too. In general, the track sounded too highly compressed to me on the busier parts. As far as the piano lead, it may be a subjective stance, I'd personally argue for a edgier synth or something that fits the style rather than heavy reverbed piano. Don't get me wrong, you've got a really good base here with the beats and synth textures, but it needs some more development. No, resubmit please
  12. Very cool palette of sounds you've utilized here. Lots of complimenting sounds and writing. That guitar synth clearly wasn't an attempt to sound real, but instead used more as a lead synth. I did the same thing (very much less effectively) long ago with a xenogear mix. Love the way you've interwoven various parts and melodies here. I'm suffering from arrangement envy. Great stuff. Yes
  13. Vinnie's right that for a solo piano piece, the sample tone isn't really strong enough to carry an entire piece. Since you aren't performing this live, though, it should be easier to replace this with a better tone. I also concur that the transitions were pretty weak in places or basically non-existant. However, there is some great arrangement work here. I'm a big fan of the OST and really appreicated the variations you threw in here. You're on your way there, keep at it! No, resubmit please
  14. Wow, this is a really pretty atmosphere you've created here. Flute sounds fantastic and I'm lovin the synth lead. Smooth strings provide the perfect backing for both. While it does initially stick fairly close to the source melody, the flute and later lead synth begin some nice variations upon the original. I liked the idea of a duet of both leads near the end - especially as they diverge into complimentary melody lines. Deia's has a valid point that this doesn't really develop or progress, sound-wise, for the length of the track (beyond minor changes like the drums dropping and re-entering and a change in lead sounds). While I do wish there was some more variation, the musicality of the piece is definitely there. If it was longer than just over 3 minutes, it might be more of an issue for me. Given that this IMO is above the bar in both arrangement and production, I don't think we need to hold it back. Yes
  15. To add to what DA said, the sample quality here is a bit of a mixed bag Drums sounded pretty robotic and the cymbals sounded like they were in a different space entirely from the kick & snare. EPiano also was pretty rigidly sequenced. That bass synth/guitar from :22 to :56 isn't doing you favors either. On the positive end, strings and guitars were quite well produced and filled out the soundscape nicely. Lots of potential here. So, flesh out your arrangement some more and look at some of the weaker production elements. No, resubmit please
  16. Just bought this last night. Perhaps my most cost-effective music purchase yet. Definitely recommended.
  17. Oh hi there first post update. Yeah, I'll be the first to admit my personal life has interfered with my OCR partifipation the past few months. Not gonna go into it here for obvious reasons, but on the positive side, I've been steadily working on my track. Negative side, I've been unable to get feedback from certain artists on wip tracks after several attempts - hence the first page update. Also, I'm going to be seeking artists for File Select and possibly Slider. If you wish to claim one of these tracks, feel free to drop me a PM with a work in progress and we'll see from there.
  18. Yeah, I think Vin hit it on the head here. It's hard to hear distinctly what's going on and I think a big part of that is lack of balance between parts. Everything sounds roughly the same volume and seems to meld all together. Drum doesn't really feel like it sits right in the mix, spacing wise. See if you can find some examples of songs with both orchestral and a drum kit to see how the artists get them to blend better (I do have a gi joe mix here that has both, but I don't think it's necessarily the ideal example). On the positive side, writing sounds really interesting and intelligently executed. All in all, I think you've done well on the arrangement side from your last submission, but the production is still having some of the same issues as before. Keep at it, you'll get there No, resubmit please
  19. Liking what I'm hearing here. Zyko takes the country twang of the original and kicks it up a few notches. Arrangment The somewhat out of tune nature of the guitar is clearly intentional and really adds to the atmosphere. Piano was delicately executed, so it blends perfectly with the rest of the mix. Nothing to complain about on the arrangement. Very well execute mix here & an enjoyable listen. Yes
  20. Gotta agree with halc & will: tons of creative part writing here. Lots of synth variety and changeups to keep things interesting. There was quite a bit of in-game sfx here, but again, it was used in a very creative way that fit into the flow the track, so I have no problems with it. I think Will gives some reasonable production crits that would be worth taking into consideration in the future, but no major problems in this regard. Good stuff. I hope we hear more from you soon. Yes
  21. Good votes and suggestions from Wes and Andy #3 above, so I won't rehash what's already been said here. Most of the issues do lie in production problems, like stiff sequencing, unrealistic sounding samples, etc. I will add that there were a few odd note choices at places like 2:20, 2:41 (and each other time it repeats that particular refrain). Maybe it's a jazz thing that I'm ignorant of, so I'm not putting too much stock into it. Good start and feel here, but there's work to be done. No
  22. Oh yeah, lovin the intro already. The Wizard sample kills me - it's kinda non-sequitur to the mix, but at least it's vg related . Yeah, I could see some potential issues with the sampling here, but I can sign off with Palp that it felt creative and divergent enough from the original as to not be a simple direct sample. I could imagine some differing opinions, so I'd like to see how the rest of the judging goes. Cool use of synths here. Solid beatwork. Filtered sawtooth synth was super catchy. I'm not a big fan of extended beat endings, but I guess it's a necessity if you're going for the dj friendly mix. Great stuff guys. Pretty cool gesture to release the stems as well. Yes
  23. Oh hi ocr I'm back. Anyway Man, you can defintely pick Jordan's mixes as he's got his own unique style. Very creative stuff here. Nice groove established here. Jordan's really good at keeping things moving along and changing to keep the listener on his/her toes. Good arrangement work here as well. Nice job dude. Yes
  24. Master of Orion 3 The first two games in the series were fantastic, classic 4x space strategy games. The second, while similar in the basics to the first, added additional depth to the gameplay from the first (micromanagement could get a bit overwhelming in late game, though). Both are different enough for me to enjoy going back to play either one every once in a while. But then came MOO3. While still a 4x game, the game mechanics were so badly implemented that the learning curve was far steeper than even an avid fan of the series would tolerate. They replaced the turn-based battle system with an awkward real-time pseudo 3d environment which was more confusing than fun. Even if you took the time to finally learn how to play the game properly, it didn't retain the fun & interesting elements that made the first games enjoyable. Super huge disappointment after buying it right off the shelf without knowing what I was getting into. I still hold a tiny amount of hope that a MOO4 will arrive someday and resurrect the series. It's been a long time, though...
