  1. Looking better now. I don't have an adblocker, but I was having some issues with IE displaying the front page properly earlier this morning: certain links like Announcements would be covered by gray areas, but upon mouseover, the links would appear. Seems to be fixed now, though.
  2. Looks like it's back up. Now, finish your tracks!
  3. Ok, new wip: http://nutritious3.googlepages.com/Lufia-InEachOneofUs_2.mp3 -Combined elements from both Meteo and my wips in this version -Added more content, new section -Still needs more developing in the last half & also still have much more of the OST to cover
  4. Yeah, it's actually MOVING my Wave Output slider in Volume Control to about 90% (from around 10%). The problem is, if I do end up leaving the Wave level there, I have to keep my Master volume to around 5% to keep the levels on my headphones under control (see previous post). I'd prefer to avoid that since I like to be able to control volume better up or down. I guess I'll just avoid WMA's as much as possible I guess.
  5. Ok, I think I've got this figured out... play Trajectory Uploaded April 13, 2008 104th in Electornic Played: 39 Favorited: 2
  6. Try Tindeck, it's one of the more convenient ones IMO
  7. ARRANGEMENT / INTERPRETATION [X] Too much direct sampling from original game audio PRODUCTION [X] Low-quality samples [X] Mixing is muddy (eg. too many sounds in the same range) STRUCTURE [X] Not enough changes in sounds (eg. static texture, not dynamic enough) [X] Too repetitive PERSONAL COMMENTS Unfortunately, I don't remember the music from a game I played such a long time ago, so I'll mainly comment on production: -Voice samples are kinda cheesy in my opinion. I guess it's a stylistic thing, but I don't really see how they really integrate with the song. This leads me into my next point: -Arrangement is pretty repetative. It kinda sounds like you're using sound effects/voice samples on top of a section to prop up the arrangement rather than let the instruments provide it. -Lots of mid-range stuff here it sounds like. The sustained pads coming in and out in the background don't really help this - it sounds like they're more taking up sonic space rather than helping the mix much. -Drums could use some more volume, also need to be varied up more, but they're not horrible. -Lead synth could probably be more interesting. Right now it's the same synth playing the melody or main line throughout the whole song. Need to vary things up. Try breakdowns, different sounds, changeups - anything to break up the song into different sections to make it more interesting to listen to. Sorry for the mostly negative criticism, but I think this needs quite a bit more work as it stand. Looking forward to next version.
  8. Well, my tracks didn't break the top 20 in Electronic this month. I came in pretty late in the process, though, so hopefully they'll do better in the future. I'll keep up the voting this coming week. I've been voting quite a bit on and off throughout the month (especially the last week). I'd like to think I pushed coactive into the top 20 with a few well-placed votes near the end (though probably not ). (by the way, you can hear the two tracks I submitted there from the link in my sig: Run and Trajectory)
  9. New version: -Expanded to reworking bridge section -Worked more on guitar tone -More orchestration A few of the guitar clips were recorded in a different location a few weeks after the originals, so the sound is quite different from the original recordings. I'm trying really hard to get both guitar sets to sound as close as possible to the same tone. Hopefully, you won't even be able to tell which parts are which.
  10. http://www.ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=15375 Don't think we'll be done by summer, though.
  11. I REMEMBER cyberspeed! I rented it probably around 10 years ago. Nice mashup there, looking forward to more
  12. Sorry for double post, but I put together a real quick sketch today based on the beginning of your wip: I wanted to show a really early version to see if this is acceptable direction-wise. I went with a much more etherial approach then you had going as I just wasn't feeling the drum beat behind slow chord changes. I'll try to keep your melody lines intact for the most part, though. Let me know if you want me to keep going.
  13. Well, out of the spc's I downloaded, I'm seeing 4 ending themes for lufia 1 and one for lufia 2. I'm not familiar whatsoever with these songs, so for whatever reason, I still can't nail down specific parts remixed. Is this based on Lufia 2's ending? ... Ok here, I'm finally starting to hear some on L2's ending. Is this all that's used? Anyway, yeah, I think I'm going to try starting from scratch here but still base the whole thing off of what you're already done if that's ok. I'll be easier this way then trying to modify your flp.
  14. By the way, do you have the OST tracks remixed here? EDIT: Nevermind found it Can you tell me WHICH songs are remixed?
  15. Thanks for the comments, guys. I've worked some on the guitar tone and drum presence: Trying to run guitar through amp sim to try and get better tone. I can't do anything with the recording - it was made months ago very quickly at my friend's house and can't be redone. That's actually what's causing the problem with the tone, I didn't have my good recording equipment with me, so he had to turn all his effects and gain down to a minimum just to prevent clipping. Drums are beefed in tone a bit now, but not writing. I'm not really sure how to rewrite them to give them better energy while still having it sound "realistic". If it's still no good, let me know and I'll toss you the midi's, Drum. As far as orchestration, I agree that having some counterpoint to break up the repeating progression will be good. ESC - I'll look into that for next version. I can rework the horns some, but I don't want them overpowering things too much. I'm not sure what you mean by not having a lead line before the guitar. I've got some stabs in the upper strings playing some precursors to the main guitar line leading up to it. Maybe it's not enough? Guess he didn't like the edited version better
  16. First of all, I keep my computer's Wave Output level low (on volume control). I have a pretty hot signal with my current headphones, so it's the only way I can listen without having the Main Volume output at the lowest possible level. Whenever I play a WMA file through Wimamp, it suddenly kicks the Wave Output to almost max, which totally blows away my eardrums. I don't normally listen to this format, but I'd like to know how I can prevent this from happening because it's extremely annoying (and painful).

  18. I finally decided to pull this song back out and start working on it again. So, starting from scratch on all of the orchestral parts, I'm rebuilding the song: EDIT (updated): New: http://nutritious3.googlepages.com/CaveStory-Showdown_5.mp3 Old: http://nutritious3.googlepages.com/Cave_Story_Showdown_Old.mp3 Style is kind of a Rock Orchestra type thing I guess, I'm not really sure. I've improved quite a bit since my initial attempt. Currently: -Still issues with guitar timing, but I can fix those with some work -Some areas need more body in the chords
  19. Well, I normally use the splines, but sometimes I wanna record myself turning a filter knob or something while it's playing
  20. To keep our eardrums intact for fear of audio awesomeness.
  21. I personally use this USB mic and have been very happy with it. Just plugs directly into computer's USB port (no pre-amp needed). No problems boosting gain here, which is done through the normal windows volume controls.
  22. Welcome to OCR. Since you've got some music you're planning on submitting, I'd recommend you first drop by the WIP Board and post your songs there to get some intial feedback. Then folks can let you know if they need any refinement before submitting. Enjoy your stay
