EDIT: Nevermind. Looks like you need to edit each clip with a tiny fade in and fade out to get rid of the pop. Hopefully, I can figure out a faster way to do this than manually, but no big deal. Ok, I just started using Edison here, but having a bit of trouble. I have a wav file that I want to be loopable. It's an ambient noise, kind of like a pad, and has a fade in and fade out. So, I've loaded it into Edison, set the loops points, used the Tune/Set Loop tool to get the loop sounding good. Here's where it gets a bit fuzzy. I used the Drag copy tool to take the loop section I just created to the playlist. Problem is, when I start the playlist, there's a slightly audible click when the wav starts as well as when it stops and another copy of it starts (yes, I've got click-free scroll editing on for Edison). This also happens if I export to a new wav file: clicking on start and stop. Am I doing something wrong on Edison? On the playlist? Yes, I know how to crossfade two sounds, but I need to create a wav file that's loopable on it's own without clicking.

We watched Ocean's 11 tonight because of this. Shame to lose him, he's always been able to make me laugh.

Well, if there are any good original ones, I'm up for that. But yeah, rehashes aren't really worth it.

Hey, I'm willing to give it a shot. Had to do this project's remix in about a week and a half anyway EDIT: Wow, that is a long soundtrack...

First thing, don't ever use Stereo Enhancer on Master track and/or final wav. It's just going to push the panning out of whack, which is probably what's contributing to your problem (depending on what you're changing on the plugin). Use it on specific instruments/synths to get them wider or narrower. Compression and EQ are fine, just try it w/o the Stereo plugin and see what happens.

Is this kinda like the OC Supertones Also, seconding DS's sentiment.

Moraff Pinball - Old remix, postable submitting
Nutritious replied to Davos-Moon's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Well, to be honest, this mix has really basic sounds/textures with a very simplistic arrangment. It sounds like something that could've been posted '00 - '02, but definitely not something that's viable now. -
-Hearing a lot of low/sub bass at the beginning. I think it's low end from the drums or timpani. Try rolling off the low frequencies there. Still hearing it all the way up until the solo section. -Instrument quality is pretty good here. No glaring problems with any that I can hear. The xylophone, though, sounds way too reverby though with too much mid-range and not enough high "click" that comes with playing the instrument. -Flute solo and xylo are way too loud for the orchestral context. -There are some timing issues, especially with the high strings. You might be trying to humanize the instrument, but it's unlikely a whole section of violins would be that far off of the beat at the same time. This needs to be tightened up. Arrangement: Don't know the source, but I'll speak on general progression -No real intro here that I can see, it just kinda starts with high strings on the melody with low brass supporting. Might want to start smaller and build up to the melody, or start real big with variations on the ost melody, but I don't think this currently works. -Hmm, instrument choices. For the first half of the song, the high strings take the melody, and keep going with it. Then switch to another melodic passage, and keep sustaining with the melody constantly. This really needs to be switched up to give the listener something fresh. Get some variation on which instruments are used for melody lines, try layering instruments, call and answer, counterpoint, just something to get away from constant high string melodies. -The violins stacking notes on top of themselves about 1/3 of the way in isn't working IMO. You'd need to use violas or cellos in lower octaves to pull off this type of thing. -The flute solo with the xylophone/marimba/vibraphone was a good idea, but it may need some more support or counterpoint to keep it interesting. Also, both flute and xylo are way too loud in relation to the rest of the instruments. -Transitions aren't too bad, I like how you brought the high-end strings back slowly after the flute breakdown. -Ok, we're back again with the constant high string melody lines with other supporting things below it. Remember, you've got more instrument sections at your disposal: violas, cellos, woodwinds. Violins don't always need to carry the melody (though I admit I'm also a huge offender in this regard) -Piano part is too basic with just some chords and a few other notes. Doesn't sound right in an orchestral context. -Ending sounds a bit weird, honestly. It gets a little bit louder from the rest with choir and instruments, so I'm guessing you're going for a big ending. The arrangement leading up to it doesn't really build to any climax though, it just sounds like the melody line started moving a bit faster with things getting louder, then the song ends. I'm guessing this is due to the WIP nature of the piece. Overall: Instruments sound really good on their own, but arrangement needs a lot of work. Get more variation in tones and textures, utilize more instruments, and develop some more "hooks" that get the listener into the song.

New version: -2 new sections added -New OST incorporated. What is it? Listen and find out -More counter melodies and many adjustments made -Next section will pull back a bit more with the volume and build into bigger crescendo

Well, you could go to the point where you know your automation is going to end and draw it at 0. That way, only the stuff leading up to it will move from 0.

I just finished up this song in response to a post in the request forum. I didn't have any intention of subbing it to ocr, since it was created for the Homeworld community, but it actually turned out pretty well. I just thought I'd share it here to get some opinions on whether or not it's worth an OCR sub. Anyway remix: http://nutritiousmultimedia.googlepages.com/Nutritious-Homeworld_Ancient_Enemies.mp3 Original: http://nutritious4.googlepages.com/homeworld-16.mp3

Coop pretty much summed it up here. This, along with the original Star Wars series, was a movie from my childhood. I really don't want to see it messed up (again, like Star Wars).

Happy Birthday DJP

I just picked up the current issue of Computer Music magazine after seeing what was on the included CD - over 100 free plugins. Including Synths, Drums, Samplers, Amp Sims, Sequencers, Effects, etc. They also give some explanations and a few guides to using them. Granted, some of these are available for download online, which I already had. In general, though, it seems to be a pretty cool deal - and much more useful than the usual samples included with the magazine. Check it out.

Free FL Orchestral Template v2.0 Released!
Nutritious replied to Nutritious's topic in Music Composition & Production
Thanks, guys! This actually reminded me that I came out with a new version of this template. I tweaked some settings and parts for a bit better sound as well as organized the project a lot better. I'm updating the first post now. -
Make it SoeN and you're golden

Congrats, djp! Is this the beginning of the end for ocr?

Looking for a good Microphone...
Nutritious replied to The Mutericator's topic in Music Composition & Production
I always recommend the Samson CO1U. No need for preamp or anything, just plug it into USB and go. I belive Pixie used this mic for a lot of her recording in the past. -

A "How To" for running older games with DOSBox...
Nutritious replied to The Coop's topic in General Discussion
Seconded! I was really psyched when I first discovered DOSBox. There really are some great old dos games out there. Now I just need to either find MOO or buy a new one
