  1. Very nice! I'm looking forward to the finished version.
  2. Right, the track is actually already done. It's pretty awesome
  3. I just came up with a song idea using Item Room, Item, Samus, and Norfair2. Four days left... this should be interesting.
  4. I can help also if you need more.
  5. My wife and I are praying for you, Jordan. Hope you get well soon.
  6. Well, it depends on how serious you are about remixing. I started off with just the demo of FL for a few months until I decided I really was going to get serious with it. I always recommend going with Producer Edition with the optional Soundfont Player plugin, which should run you around $185 last time I checked. It's really one of the most cost-effective options out there.
  7. I should be able to get my track done today.

  9. I was just thinking, are you guys planning on translating these into other languages?
  10. posting from cell phone Thanks for the bump guys . I actually finished this and submitted it a few weeks ago. yeah the violins are new, I felt like a bit of a breakdown was needed to give the listener a break. Thanks for the compliments. I do agree about the guitar, but i needed to change it up somehow so that riff wouldn't get too repetitive. When i'm back from vacation i should be able to post final version If you'd like.
  11. I'm about to leave for vacation for a couple weeks, but I had a chance to work on this one briefly before taking off: Only a bit over a minute so far, so I know it's short. Just showing progress being made
  12. Yeah, I'm kind of in the same place as you are. Last good space games I enjoyed were Freespace I & II and Freelancer. I don't know of any good, more recent Space sims, but if you're looking to go old-school, you could check out Tachyon. Very underrated game IMO. Plus it has Bruce Campbell, so there you go.
  13. Posted already in project forums, but this song is awesome.
  14. Ok, most likely the final arrangment: I'm not sure I've ever done a fadeout ending before on a song - I usually like arranging an actual ending for my mixes. But, it seemed to fit well here. Feel free to point out any glaring problems or nitpick at will .
  15. Oh I agree, was just pointing it out
  16. Pirated copies don't get free updates?
  17. Red channel generally means FL Studio couldn't find the wav file. Just use the browser on the left to click and drag the wavs from that location back into the song and it should work.
  18. Thanks for the feedback . I'll probably be wrapping this one up pretty soon, so be on the lookout for a completed arrangement in the next couple days. note: changed link to tindeck, but no real update yet today
  19. Thanks, guys. New version: Replaced last section. Liking it a lot more now.

  21. Aaaaaand another update: I'm not really feeling this last section yet. I'll probably have to speed it up and switch things up a bit.
  22. I think before you go too indepth with details, you should take a step back and address an overarching problem with your samples here. What you've got is a VERY brass heavy arrangement, which means that you're going to need some really strong brass samples to pull something like this off. Unfortunately, as it stands, these samples aren't cutting it. Some are clicking well - like the french horns, perhaps the trombones too. But the trumpets are really killing this. Lots of high end resonation on them. That's gotta be your number one focus right now, though honestly, good brass samples (especially for a piece this aggressive) are very difficult to find. Beyond that, even though I'm not familiar with the sources, the arrangement sounds pretty cool. This could really use some dynamic contrast though as the whole piece is pretty loud. If you can get beyond these two major issues (I say "if" because the brass issue is a very difficult thing to overcome) then we can focus more on transitions and details.
  23. ARRANGEMENT / INTERPRETATION [X] Too conservative - sticks too close to the sourcewriting) PRODUCTION [X] Low-quality samples [X] Unrealistic sequencing [X] Drums have no energy STRUCTURE [X] Not enough changes in sounds (eg. static texture, not dynamic enough) [X] Too repetitive PERSONAL COMMENTS I'll start with the good: -Clear soundfield and pretty well-balanced mixing -Pretty cool intro with that horn solo. I'd really like to know what sample that is -Good use of pads to fill out the soundscape Here's the stuff that needs improving: -First and foremost, arrangment. This sticks to a very similar flow to the original, most noteably in the intro. You're using similar instrument choices (or doing a 1 to 1 conversion to your own instruments), same key, same beat, chords, etc. You need to take this song and try to personalize and interpret it further to fit into OCR guidelines. -Second, some of the instruments used seem like a downgrade from the original. You're choosing to use guitars other instruments similar to the original, but your guitar samples sound fakey vs. the more realistic and complex original. When the drums come in, they immediately go into autopilot for the rest of the song - no changes or fills. The kick is barely present (I actually just realized it was 4 on the floor at 1:30, I couldn't tell before) and the snare is very hissy with no mid-range body to it. -I wasn't really feeling this fadeout or the ending. It was a pretty drawnout fade and, while it works in other music, I don't think it does this genre justice. Try and come up with something interesting to end on. Hope this helps.
  24. Heh, I just realized in my rush earlier I posted an old version. Link updated with latest version.
  25. Thanks , keeping at it: Last section needs some cleanup. Still developing.
