Hello again Laura. Honestly I really can't say. Jeremy and I are currently working on a Final Fantasy 8 piece that we're going to submit to OCR in the next couple of months. We will continue the Cantata but whether or not the remaining movements will be posted here is still under debate. Thanks for your support and Happy New Year!!! -Derek-

OCR01661 - Metroid Prime 3 "Yellow Valkyrie"
derako replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I love the progression in this piece. And unlike many mixes I've heard in the past there's actually good instrumentation behind the beat and main synth. I say it's a winner!! Very nice work. -Derek- -
First of all thank you for your comments. I would have already posted a HQ link for the audio but for some weird reason with my encoder there is an audio glitch at the end every time I encode over 128kbs. So I'm going to re-record everything and put together a HQ version for everyone. It'll sound exactly the same but it's going to take a little time. Again thank you for your support. -Derek-

Well I understand what you are saying but you have to understand that if you were to go hear something like this in an orchestral hall it would sound the same. I don't know what you mean about wrong dynamics and reverb. I hardly used any reverb on this piece. The dynamic switch is part of the piece. This isn't supposed to be all beautiful and roses you know. Let's not forget who this Cantata is about. Kefka is an unpredictable madman basically. He's anything but stable and the music is trying to reflect that. I really don't understand what you are talking about when you say that mix is muddy and messy. There are a lot of notes in this piece and while the choir doesn't sound realistic to the T, I think it's pretty close. The instruments are supposed to be drowned out. The whole concept of the piece is a choir backed by orchestra. When you sing a solo with orchestra or piano would you want the instruments to drown the soloist out? So to close I understand and respect your opinion but don't forget also that all of this is an illusion and this isn't a real orchestra. -Derek-

Exactly yes I've already worked out arrangements with Liontamer so it's not a big deal. I've already had him upload a more polished verison anyways so it's gonna be awesome. Have you listened yet?

Thanks for the comments so far. Because we had to submit this piece at 128kbs there was a lot of degration in the quality of the voices. Unfortunatly thats what you get with this sample library. So hopefully soon I'll have an alternate download that is either 224 or 320kbs which would have little to no degration. Also I was unhappy with certain parts of the mix that I didn't hear until after we had submitted it. So after it's judged, whether it's accepted or not, I'll remix it and fix those errors. Most of you probably won't even notice them but after you put 4 months of your life into a project like this you want absolute perfection. Again thanks for the support. -Derek-

OCR01628 - Legend of Zelda "Legend of Zelda Overture"

Very well done. I'm very impressed by this. Such is a flow about the mixing and the crescendos. The strings are just gorgous. Awesome job all around -
ITS FINISHED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:-o:-P

Hello! I'm almost finished. I have pretty much all the choir sampled. I just have to fix one little thing with the runs. They didn't sound right so I'm re-doing those but hopefully this weekend we'll wrap it up and submit to the judges. I'm pumped!!

Yeah unfortunatly when you're dealing with getting paid for your music you have deadlines which are good if it's realistic. In that case I can see what you mean.
-
Yeah it changes... for the better because the composer has more drive to get it done. I'd rather work for myself doing what I love rather than sit in a cube from 9-5 every day. Now THAT is souless. I couldn't disagree with you more. The spirit and determination behind every achievement of mankind is compensation. Whether it's money, fame, recognition, salvation... Who would make music if nobody listened to it? There is nothing wrong with making money as there is nothing wrong with compensation. Money is just a form of many.

This week I was putting the final touches on the mens chorus. Now that part is done so it's on to the womens chorus. We're in the final stretch now.

OCR01616 - Final Fantasy VII "Valse Aeris"

What can I say Jeremy my friend other than well done!! well done! -
After my initial sampling of the choir there were lots of errors in the text as well as the sampling types so I'm going to resample the choir after making several editing fixes. So back to the drawing board so to speak. -Derek-

I've started the sampling process. This week is turning out much better than last week. I should have this sampled this week. Then it'll be on to the recording phase. If anyone has any questions please ask.-Derek-

This week has been hard because of personal life things. But I've been able to work on it a little. I added markers to the choir and placed instances where I want them to do certain things. It's a long and challenging process but I'll get through it. Thats about it for this week.

Hey guys and gals. A number of my posts were moved to another forum since they didn't really have anything to do with the first movement. So if you want updates on how the second movement is going, please go to the following link: http://www.ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=11353 I'll do a weekly update until the 2nd movement is submitted to the judges. -Derek-
