  1. Not a bad fox there Jam, but I couldn't help feeling like there should be some upsmashes after some of those waveshines. :24 and :29 comes to mind. (:29 would be more difficult because you'd want to turn around).
  2. http://www.box.net/shared/7p1s1cfsws Woo, update. Changed the part before the solo piano ending a lot. Added sax and flutes to it. Changed little things here and there, finished editing drum velocities. And more little things. I think it's real close to being finished, so definitely any feedback is wanted and appreciated. Thanks.
  3. Agreed. Yay Peach! I just can't stop playing as her. But it's so damn difficult to kill...
  4. Don't get aim, get trillian or pidgin. You'll thank yourself.
  5. Because I am practicing for a melee tournament and don't want to get screwed on saturday after playing brawl, which is slower, and online, which is even slower. I'll get back to brawl after this weekend, though, and then I'd love to play you.
  6. Awesome. I picked up an Emerald Blue controller when I was in Japan a couple years ago. But white? Awesome. Looks much better than other white controllers of other consoles.
  7. Here we go again, another version. Been busier lately and haven't had a whole lot of time. Changes: added more verb (mostly on piano), changed a couple notes and velocities here and there, and started working on changing the velocities of each drum hit. So far I'm about halfway done (keep that in mind when reviewing, please, the velocities are constant starting at about 3 minutes in). It's very slow work. Also increased a bpm from 95 to 96 at one point (yeah, I know, no one is going to know, but I'm a CS major and 96 is a much better number that 95 so I changed it). I also increased the overall tempo at the end and then threw it in a blender: instead of a straight tempo line, it goes up and down very rapidly which average is faster than it was, anyway, it sounds a bit more like a person is playing it now, especially since I've edited the velocities even more. Oh, and there's bass now, I can't remember if I've upped a version that fixed that problem (my speakers automatically boosted the bass, so it was much louder than it really was). Changes to come: -The section before the final solo piano section is going to be much more cohesive and much more climactic, incorporating most of the instruments that appear in the mix. -Increase the volume of the intro -Mess with the overall volume in different sections to create a more dynamic feeling within the whole of the piece After that, if there are no big things that I need to fix, I'll probably submit it. Please leave any comments, both good and bad, if you will. http://www.box.net/shared/7p1s1cfsws
  8. I think it's more of a glitch and less of a ..."feature." And by feature I mean how much of a feature regular tripping is. As far as I've found, it isn't easily replicated, so I think it's more of a glitch. ...of course, that could also be me hoping it's a glitch and that it wasn't intended. I have the worst luck sometimes, damnit. I was peach playing against a lucas in a tournament. I go to pick up a turnip. She reaches down, it makes the little "you picked up a turnip" sound, and I just saw something black. And by just, I mean that the lucas did a pk fire and I was just within range. I didn't even see the bomb she picked up because that pk fire blew it up before it was completely out of the ground. Yep, I lost a stock. I also lost a stock at 13% on Lylat Cruise during the tournament. I forget how though. I do remember it was a gimp and I was very upset about it.
  9. Ha ha ha. Ha ha. Ha. Yes (unfortunately - he's actually DEAD LAST on SBR's 1.0 tier list, but eh. Yeah though, he's pretty bad).
  10. I meant that I personally felt that brawl felt like a step backwards because I play smash competitively. I do know others that prefer brawl over melee, and fewer still that prefer it's gameplay (the others are part of the group that want to win easily without much practice or skill). While melee does have it's balance issues, they generally aren't as bad as brawl's are (at least for now, who's to say what the metagame will uncover eventually, if there's enough interest in competitive brawl). Like I said a little while ago, I've seen a pichu at least 3-stock a fox (it was a while ago, I don't remember the exact results). Oh, and I forgot to mention: Autograbbing the ledge from Up-B - OUT Though perhaps something can be done about it. Take, for instance, Marth's up-B. If you, I don't know, hold down the B-button or something, and he passes the ledge before he finishes, instead of going past it he'll grab the ledge with his hand and either A) flip onto the ledge with no invincibility and his standard options to either attack, climb up, or jump depending on what button is pressed as he flips from the ledge (though you can't hang there) or invert himself for a short while because of the momentum (he'll be upside down hanging on the ledge with no invincibility) and then you could choose to attack on the stage, jump off the ledge, climb up (more of a "fall down" at this point), or hang back on the ledge. Jam: don't play jiggs. Play Metaknight. He's like jiggs, only better. Just sayin'. Edit: Does anyone know what EVO and MLG are doing about melee/brawl? I heard that EVO2008 was brawl, but I don't know if they plan to continue with it for '09.
  11. Seeing how melee was out for like 7 years before brawl came out, I don't think it's gonna happen, but I sure hope Nintendo does something to kinda make up for the big face slap they did to competitive smashers with brawl. Hell, I'd be satisfied with "Here's melee, but with brawl characters added, sorry about that."(or even release a "patch" game (like they have melee version 0, 1, and 2) or downloadable stuff when they figure out a solution to the storage problem - save to SD card maybe?) As far as gameplay though, I think: Tripping - OUT (obviously) Air Taunting - IN (you know you want it) L-Cancel - IN (hell, they knew it was in SSB64 and they kept it in melee) Wavedash - IN (it's likely they knew about it in melee) Footstool - IN Doing something after an airdodge, a la brawl (but not another air dodge) - IN Choose a direction to air dodge - IN Melee physics and speed - IN Online mode - IN (though seriously, while the lag is terrible most times, at least we get to play people not in our living room) HAL designing the next smash - IN (though I don't know how plausible this would be - didn't they disband or move on to something else?) The fact that there are people hacking the game to make it more like melee (no tripping, l-cancel, wavedash, etc...) should be a GIANT wakeup call to nintendo that a lot of people don't like it the way it is and are quite upset about it (enough to get people to take action). It kinda feels like the transition from Zelda I to Zelda II - they changed it back to Zelda I style for Zelda III (a link to the past). I hope they go back to melee-style for the next one. Also, the whole idea about taking the shitton of time to create multiple patches to balance the game should also be a wakeup call that things did not go right with the balance part of the game.
  12. If I remember correctly, Michael Gluck went through Electronic Arts to help get permission from Square-Enix. Also, the original composers get royalties from his sale of his CD: http://www.michaelgluck.com/album_credits.php You would need to get some sort of really special permission from Square-Enix for this, because GAME! was also to help charity, and he still needed to pay royalties. Good luck, but before aquiring help here on the forums, it would be a good idea to get the permission first.
  13. And if you want to practice l-cancelling (and by if I mean when), do the home-run contest. Seriously. That's how I learned. http://www.folderol.net/HRCguide.php Practice, practice and more practice. It's impossible for me to not l-cancel now. Jam: Mookie actually came down to NC once and I got to meet him. Have a Roy chat and some dittos. It was pretty sweet. After we couldn't come up with any new Roy stuff (hell, we tried to come up with Roy spike combos - haha yeah we didn't get far with the dair), he moved onto Mewtwo. After a while of losing, he switched to Marth and instantly started winning. Oh Mewtwo, how you suck.
  14. Mine's the same there as it is here. But I haven't posted in a long damn time. Most of it is in the Roy boards (or what became the Roy boards before there were char-specific boards), funny enough, because I liked Roy (myself and MookieRah would talk over AIM to how to bring Roy to his most-apt mid-tier position skill ) and did a lot to educate others (both "ROY IS AWESOME HE HAS TEH FIRE!!" and "ROY SUCKS").
  15. Ahahahaha. If I didn't see the date, I would have thought he started that thread because of a recent surge of noobs asking dumb questions and posting very-well-known facts about melee and not because he was actually posting that. Hell, I STILL read that entire post as sarcasm.
  16. So I hosted a brawl tournament on Saturday as part of the Gaming Club's LAN party. I didn't choose brawl, the officers did... Anyway, so in the rules I told people to bring a copy of melee and a memory card so we could have free play before and after the actual tournament. I knew that Adam (LoZR is his tag) was coming, as he is friends, and went to the same school, as a friend of mine. So I put in melee. And was playing it when he arrived. Now, for those of you who don't know, he is easily #1 in NC in melee. Absolutely amazing at this game. I'm no pushover myself as I have lots of experience both with friends and tournaments, but damn. He is so good. I saw him 3 or 4 stock a fox with PICHU a YEAR AGO. And he's gotten better. He has so much experience with this game that he knows what will work in a given situation, massive (i.e. fast) response time, and flawless execution (or at least I didn't see any errors). And I love fighting him, even though I know I am going to lose. I am at my best when playing someone better than me, as when I play someone worse, I "level adjust" without thinking and mess up a lot and don't think clearly for some reason. My highlight of the day was taking a stock from him before he could take mine (it was FFA and we were the last 2, 2 stocks each, but I was at 148% he was at 0%). I was falco, I believe he was falcon. The next LAN will likely be melee (I'm fighting tooth and nail for it), and I can't wait to play him again.
  17. Ok, thanks. If worst comes to worst, I can just automate it manually for each note/section that I need to change it.
  18. I was trying to have it so that when an instrument would be played really loudly, the attack would be a bit greater/sharper, and the reverse, when played softly, the attack would be a bit slower, leading to a more soothing sound. Thanks though.
  19. The bass drum. The bass instrument is usually filled by the piano, though I have a couple bass percussion that imitate an instrument from time to time. But I was meaning the bass drum, yes. I shall turn it up then (my speakers may boost the bass automatically). Thanks. What are you opinions on the instrument quality? On the #ocrwip channel I've gotten "good arrangement, bad quality instruments, it probably won't pass mostly for that reason."
  20. Thanks (again!) for your suggestions. Do you like the new melodies I added to make it less repetitive and to fit the themes together? And do you agree with Willrock that the bass is inaudible?
  21. Now, I have not used gating or CV yet, but from my understanding of CV (which may or may not be correct), I can use the velocity value (i.e. 0-127) to increase the attack and release values on an NN-XT, right? If so, how would I accomplish this? Thanks!
  22. I love this game. I've beaten 8 bosses and am stuck in the Labyrinth of The Guy.
  23. Ok, new version. Less repetitive. I decided to keep the ending as it was, but I did more velocity work. Did some velocity work in the intro as well. Changed up some parts, made it less repetitive and joined both themes together. Finally found a better transition at 2:23 from hydro to ice. Adjusted some volume levels and other tidbits. As always, link here: http://www.box.net/shared/7p1s1cfsws And Willrock, I actually had the bass up a bit beforehand, but it was too overpowering, so I lowered it to what it is now. I can still hear and feel it strongly though on my speakers (Logitech G51 with the subwoofer setting in the middle). And also as always, please leave feedback!
  24. While the game does pick up after Traverse Town, I have trouble leaving Traverse Town...the music is just too damn good that I don't want to stop hearing it.
