  1. I want part, officially, in killing Damned. > Just wanna kill him a little. Nothing personal. 5 pages of papercuts await. Be ready, Jerry.
  2. Puns galore. Thanks for the feedback everyone, I'm pretty happy with this track myself. Pretty short comments so far tho. Not being ungrateful, just saying that the more details you give me about my own mix, the more fun it is for me to read.
  3. I suggest summing up your observations on the remixer somewhere (like in this thread). Gonna be a mess trying to find your reviews on the tracks when there's a dozen more reviews more for each of them.
  4. neblix is right, you're still having rhythm problems. Learning theory might sound difficult, but a lot of it is really just common sense applied to music. Not hard once you get the basics down. You can't get a remix posted nowadays without knowing how to make music, whether you know formal theory or just know what works and what doesn't. Just about anyone with a posted remix would be a "higher up", there's no need to turn to the big names with stuff like this when a lot of the unposted mixers can help. Some of them (like Gario) know way too much. If you use aim, add me, and when you have a question, just ask. If I'm there (and awake), I'll help you out. Have you seen how the source looks like in your program? Get a midi of it from vgmusic and open it in Acid or whatever you use, see how it looks. Importing source midis isn't gonna get you on ocr, but they're often good learning resources and good practice.
  5. Awesome idea. Been talking about different artists' styles on the wip board sometimes, and the other day with Willrock on aim about our own individual styles. Gonna be great to read about remixers covered like this. I mean, we review wips and posted tracks, why not review artists too?
  6. It's probably best to look at the parts that go into making a remix as separate tasks. You need to write it, you need to make the tracks sound good, you need to mix the tracks together and keep it sounding good. Remixing is not importing a midi and using preset sounds to play it. It's actually more complicated - and more fun - than that This unfinished FAQ/tutorial/guide should get you started on the general stuff, but it doesn't cover program-specific things like how to load soundfonts. There are other guides covering different topics, just run around the workshop, look for other resources and read just about evreything you can find. And listen. And experiment. And have fun.
  7. All I can think of is... Two titular characters Two actor credits Coincidence?
  8. +1 remixer. I'm getting work done on the mixes I've promised to do for other projects, so I should have time to have a look at my tracks for this project, both of which are at the threshold of completion having forgotten what to do when they're at the front of the queue. Once they're all done, I can start claiming tracks and turn the sd3 project into another Relics of the Chozo where half the tracks are done by the same dude. Don't turn me into Protricity, guys. Get mixin'!
  9. It's just to be specific, I guess. It does give us 192 more KiB to work with (than a strict 8 thousand), and nobody has to fret about being a few blocks over 8000K. 8MiB: 8 388 608 B 8MB: 8 000 000 B I like having almost 400K more to work with.
  10. Basically, a DAW is a music program that does EVERYTHING. Audio editor, sequencer, plugin host, mixer... Audacity, for example, is just an audio editor. It has some basic midi tools but those were still being tested last I heard. Anvil Studio is, iirc, just a sequencer. Doesn't do plugins. Just midi writing. Unless I'm wrong about what they can do, they're not DAWs. Note that having a sample library and/or built-in/bundled effects isn't necessary for it to be a DAW. Those are things you may have to get yourself. Fortunately, the internet is full of free stuff. Some of it is even good. edit: realizing that the remixing faq/tutorial me and zephyr were writing would be really helpful here. You might find this unfinished version useful, just ignore our comments about what needs to be added/changed and stuff. Thought I had a v1.3 somewhere. Maybe I'll have time to dig it up and update it this week. edit2: reading through it, there's a lot I need to change. Most of it is ok, but I'd check with other sources to get stuff like the order of effects right. The part about samplers is a little confusing because sometimes we've misspelled samples as samplers. Should be fixed it later versions, but that's the version I've got online.
  11. As cool as it is to have your own unique sounds, presets are useful in learning the software and having something close to what you want that you can tweak. Of course, there's the lazypoo factor too, but who's gonna know, besides others who use the same software and the same presets? Especially if there's thousands of presets.
  12. Cue random whining about how you should be making your samples and synths and stuff yourself or else you're a lazypoo producer and how that thing is everything you need to not be making music. After which, cue Rozo making a cool assessment. There, I jsut saved ocr 8 posts. Seriously tho, my (cool?) assessment here is that I've yet to learn to use Omnisphere and Superior properly before even needing something like this, and neither my income or my computer likes either of those so I shoulnd't be getting more memory-hogging monsters. Yet. And by the time I have a computer that can run it smoothly and can afford to buy new tools for the new computer, there's probably something else that seems just as awesome out there.
  13. Funny. Wouldn't hurt to make ocr projects a different color tho, would it?
  14. lol, we're second. Thanks Bahamut. Great to have a central projects thread, it'll make things easier. btw, why is Essence of Lime colored differently? If it was the only non-ocr project I'd understand it, but it's not.
  15. With the improved tags and mp3-validated files and now this, I think a massive file replacement should be considered. iirc, Valse Aeris on the site was encoded low to fit the 6 MB limit, and I'm sure there are other examples. With new encoding comes the opportunity to fix things in the mix too, at least for ppl who still have project files and whatever tools and resources they used. In any case, this'll be great for future 10-minute works.
  16. Updating to say we've had an update on the first post... ...and a new forum!. Surprise surprise, it's at KNGI. Thanks Kyle.
  17. Looks like Through Time and Space and Ghost Grove are missing from the Aplus mirror. Probably others as well.
  18. iirc, Zephyr has some FL discount link in his sig. There's also Reaper, which works for free and their discounted license isn't very expensive. Look around for the Workshop for DAW threads and info on whatever else you'll need.
  19. I would advise against it. It makes you think your track sound better than it really is, so you won't do the mixing as good. You can easily get a balanced sound but you might lose much of the transparency of the mix. What I do is just keep a limiter on while mixing, then add the others. Granted, I'm not pro enough to have anything to show for how awesome that works, but I think it forces me to mix the tracks better. Better mixed tracks+output effects=win.
  20. Oh great, more salsa. Just don't lose the crazy amount of drums and rhythms and stuff. I could easily hear your track go either way, Tauce. Can i ask for both, start with one, end with the other? The more irish example sounds fitting, but I've heard stuff like that before. Appalachian ballad... it sounds so much more exotic to my finnish ears. Can't decide between them. And now you've gone and gotten high expectations on you. everybody btw, +1 finished track today.
  21. Also, Workshop for any sound/mixing/composing-related questions ad problems, the FL subforum for FL-specific things, the remix feedback board for video game remixes you've made/working on, the other feedback baord for stuff that isn't vgm remixes. We're both there, as are others, to help.
