Why is FL not popular?! I thought it was good!
GarretGraves replied to PROTO·DOME's topic in Music Composition & Production
All I dont know what you guys are talking about. But FL is awesome. -
Thanks! Im gonna figure out how to do that. I know how to set the outputs on the GPO. It's FL i keep hitting barriers with. But i'll give it a go. Thanks! Oh I dont give myself enough credit. I figured it out. thanks!

Im using Garritan Personal Orchestra in FL. I got it to work but in order to use more than one instrument I gotta make several individual channels. If I make too many, FL crashes. Is there anyway to just use the 8 "slots" in GPO for FL without having to do this?

yoozer i appreciate your help but you need to be more friendly. not everyone who posts here is a pro and when you ask someone to be more specific, you could do better than wasting time teaching me "forum ettiqute". that just makes you look arogant. -

Need spacey ambient effects
GarretGraves replied to GarretGraves's topic in Music Composition & Production
Metroid Prime 1. Either of the 3 really. Wind sounds, volcanic sounds, tropical forest, etc. I still havnt decided but those are just ideas. Im just having trouble finding the sounds like them. (I had another response but I later found it inappropiate. Sorry to any who read it before I could edit it.) -
Need spacey ambient effects
GarretGraves replied to GarretGraves's topic in Music Composition & Production
that's tough cause im not really sure. i was hoping to get a handful to try them out and see. but i guess the closest i can think of would have to be somethin like the sounds you hear in the Metroid Prime trilogy. -
I could use some spacey ambient samples to mess with for a track im workin on. until i get enough money to buy some software i was hoping someone could direct me to some free sampels for now. links?

Song sounds ok for alternative. but the video, being super-low budget, could have been more exciting. I know it's from an indie film and all, but you can squeeze out a lot more talent than with what's here if you just take the time and effort. more cuts that go with the beat of the song. try to up the pace to go with the tempo of the song. i guess that's what i mean.

Check Out THis Stage Theme I Composed For M. Bison!!!!
GarretGraves replied to RayMabry's topic in Post Your Original Music!
For drums, albeit somewhat costly, I highly recommend getting Toontrack's Superior Drummer 2.0 with FL Studio. A combination that's changed the way I record. They sound super realistic and it has some kind of velocity randomization so that each time you hit a snare or hihat, it sounds like a different sample of the same instrument, preventing that robotic feel. Comes complete with mixer and effects. A must have. -
Check Out THis Stage Theme I Composed For M. Bison!!!!
GarretGraves replied to RayMabry's topic in Post Your Original Music!
it has a great melody. but it seems like the quality of the samples you are using is holding this track back. the drum samples primarily. there's nothing too exciting about them. sure it keeps the beat, but the quality seems lacking. and there's not too many fills. also cymbals could use better mixing. like the crashes. they seem a bit too loud at times. other than that, the melody feels very thematical as a stage theme should. is this totally original or a remix? I know you posted in the originals forum but i just had to ask. also, i may be overdoing my critique if you're going for a stage theme as if it were for the ORIGINAL game itself in which you would use MIDI in the manner that you did. if that were the case and this were 1993, i'd hire you in an instant. for those standards this is great work. otherwise, i re-refer you to my above statement. -
need an opinion on this track
GarretGraves replied to GarretGraves's topic in Post Your Original Music!
thank! haha this is funny cause that seems to be the main issue is the highs. gotta have more highs. i wonder if my logitech 5.1 systems needs tweeking cause more highs seem to be a bit much, IMO. as for the snare, i dunno. i like the snare as is. but also, Superior Drummer doesnt seem to give me the option of reverb on any single drum piece. only FL or Audition do for the entire drum track. and adding more reverb on the whole drum track may be overkill. thanks for the feedback, ppl! -
need an opinion on this track
GarretGraves replied to GarretGraves's topic in Post Your Original Music!
lol ive never known of a thrash metal song with an organ. unless it's a church organ, maybe. i could try and boost the highs i guess. i'll give that a go. i know all about gain, but what do you mean by slash? -
It's not a remix or a cover of any game song but im practicing my mixing skills. need your opinions on this track. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=07GFDW91 just your run in the mill thrash metal track. no vocals yest but eventually i want to sing to it. just gotta grow some balls and do it. well anyway, GO! thanks!

to be honest i submitted the remix 4 months ago. during that time ive gotten a bit better at mixing drums and making new guitar tones from the Gearbox. as for the sloppy arpeggios, i dont remember leaving those takes in. i did takes for like an hour and i had a better take on that part but i guess i left the wrong one in. so that's just my own damn fault. another problem i've had is mixing bass. i tweaked it around a bit but couldnt get the sound that i wanted so i just went with what i could get with the Gearbox. probably a mistake. Im still jerking it around trying to find a good bass tone. also i neglected to mention to the judges that when i got my hands on Superior Drummer 2.0, i didnt know how to use it with FL. So I used it's solo program and sampled each drum piece and gave them individual channels in FL. This I later learned is a very bad idea considering there's no real velocity changes when doing drum rolls and such. But I got so excited cause even though i sampled them individually, it was still 10 times better than the drum kit i had before. so i thought i hit the jack pot. Later on I lerned the concept of PLUG-INS! I hit myself over the head at that point. and lastly, I wanted to avoid using so many effects and the like cause on all the rock tracks that i've heard (i havnt heard all of them mind you) you'd hear rock instruments backed by a flute or some kind of synth. It seemed really trendy to me albeit the tracks that i heard were really awesome. But everyone seems to feel the need to back the rock instruments (guitar, bass, drums) with electronics. I wanted to stray away from that. I wanted metal as the core and nothing else. Like old 80's thrash metal. but i guess that sort of thing isnt liked much. or i just sucked at it this time around.

tu che....if that is indeed how you spell it. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=DR1N8OR2 BRING IT ON!!!!!!!!!!!!! http://www.megaupload.com/?d=DR1N8 OR2 i put a space in there cause it kept givin me the bug-eyed face and wouldnt link properly

That sounds absolutely sick! That sounds like a must have. 299 aint askin much either IMO. I know Im gettin it. heh soon as I find a good controller dont suppose you can link one of those a well?
-
id like to show you but i have no place to upload it so everyone can get linked to it. I could email it to whoever wants a listen and give a critique if they wish.

I recently had my remix rejected by the judges. A rock mix. They said that it had "sparse textures" and "would be helped a lot by the textures being fleshed out with something more." What do they mean by texture? Tone? Tone color?

A good varied percussion Library?
GarretGraves replied to Zephyr's topic in Music Composition & Production
Dude! There's way too many choices there. I don't know where to begin. Any preferences in this bunch? -
How do you master your remix?
GarretGraves replied to Brian's topic in Music Composition & Production
I take recording arts and sound designing classes. They tell us that mixing with headphones is a BAD idea. I guess this isnt the case for most of you people since you guys seem pretty good at this. I have a set of 50 dollar Logitech headphones. They sound ok. Not top notch but ok. Then I have a Logitech 5.1 sound system on my computer. In the headphones it sounds ok but then listening to it on the speakers the bass can get a tad overbearing. Mastering is a pain-in-the-ass process that I can't seem to...well, master. -
Getting tracks loud enough
GarretGraves replied to GarretGraves's topic in Music Composition & Production
Ok I tried everything I could and tried what was mentioned here. I got it louder but not as loud as i could have been. It isnt quiet and the volume difference from the other mixes isnt that different. I submitted the track. Crossing fingers!
