How has this topic gone 3 pages without suggesting Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story?! This game is fantastic, and it puts all other RPGs to shame. You HAVE to get this game, TC.
-
Good point. I'll get on that. I need something new to play on the weekends. I'm guessing it doesn't require a lot from a computer. I don't know what my laptop is capable of (I don't play PC games usually), but I think it will probably play Minecraft with no problem.

Thanks for the answers guys. My last question; how long will the game stay at this low price? (Hooray for procrastination!)

Zero Punctuation (Hilarious) Game Reviews

The more Yahtzee said "Abloogy woogy woo," the harder I laughed! Good stuff. -
I'm almost convinced to buy this game, but I have 2 questions: 1) Is it worth waiting for the Beta, or full retail releases? 2) Is this game fun if the player isn't very creative/hates sandbox games?
-
Yeah, let's go with that.

Zero Punctuation (Hilarious) Game Reviews
JCvgluvr replied to sephfire's topic in General Discussion
This is a first, guys! I know that Yahtzee purposefully hates the Wii, and I know that he purposefully acts incredibly negative on purpose, to generate buzz...But for the first time, I completely agreed with one of his reviews. It didn't stop me from liking M:OM (because I do), but I didn't hear a single illegitimate complaint. Shocking. -
So, first Malaki supports Sakamoto's egotism, and now he makes up "facts" he "heard from the grapevine" and thinks people will believe him? Come on homey, don't be trippin! I admit that I had to look at a guide to find the missile that was inside of the hologram room by the Metroid queen. How was I supposed to know that you could go inside it? I blame the camera angle.
-
Malaki, are you seriously supporting Sakamoto's egotism? Not a wise move, bro.

Dudes, Other M broke over 250k in sales. http://www.vgchartz.com/game.php?id=35086 That's not bad at all. Especially for a Metroid game.
-
Just beat the game 100%. The escape sequence was a great surprise (that was spoiled for me by stupid gamefaqs posters). I was quite anxious to escape, and made it with a minute to spare. (Emperor, what you're saying is so true, it was funny.) That was a good game, but a pretty bad Metroid game. I'd say that Other M barely manages to be better than Metroid (NES), Metroid 2, and Hunters (barf). I'll probably replay M:OM one time (and ONLY one time) in a couple years.
-
Okay, so I obviously didn't know HOW he was gonna be in. I admit, that was unexpected, and pretty cool. Regardless, the way he came back does not have any relevance to how it made Samus react. Samus knows that Ridley comes back. Who cares how he does it? She knows that he will, in one way or another. You want be to believe that, just because Ridley began life as a little chick-thing, went through a teenage-ish phase, and then appeared, Samus has a good reason to **** her pants? I don't buy it. If anything, she should be like, "oh man, he was here all along, holy cow!" She shouldn't become paralyzed from such a twist. Nope, not realistic at all. Sakamoto was trying too hard to make her emote.
-
Take note, my previous criticism of Other M's music doesn't include Ridley's theme. Kind of obvious, but I thought I should mention that.
-
Me, personally? I knew he'd be in this game since the second trailer was released. Me, as in, if I was in Samus's shoes? It's the 5th (or so) time Ridley's come back. For Samus, it should be like "been there, done that." Her reaction isn't realistic at all. Hey, you guys who posted the music? I swear I've heard those exact songs in The Bourne Identity, or during one of the Matrix's firefights. If that's the best music that Other M has, all of the other Metroid games destroy this game's soundtrack. At best, Other M's soundtrack is adequate, but generic. I'd bet my money that Stemage (the Metroid Metal guys) won't touch any songs in this game with a 10 foot pole. They've got nothing to work with!

Alright, I just beat Ridley last night. I'm going to put in my 2 spoilerific cents, whether you folks like it or not. Are the complaints about this scene justified? I think so. Absolutely, and completely. There really is no reason for such an overreaction from Samus. None. Do you know why? It's called Desensitization. This women is a battle-hardened warrior, at this point in the canon. She's not a fledgling explorer with something to prove. This isn't the first time she's fought Ridley, back from the grave and fully reconstructed. (That happened in Prime 3/Super Metroid, remember?) Blaming things like PTSD is complete BS. There were way more likely scenarios for this to be happening. Like I said, seeing Ridley for the first time would have been a justified moment for Samus to lose it. Seeing Meta Ridley for the first time could be unnerving. Or how about the first time Ridley came back from the dead, fully healed? But no, Samus doesn't have any excuses. This Ridley is doing nothing new. There's no twist to this appearance. He's back...again. Fully healed...again. For Samus, it's been there, done that. Nothing new, nothing shocking, and not even remotely traumatizing. So why does she revert to the mindset of a 3-year old? I can easily explain why. Sakamoto was doing his best to hammer this idea into our heads: "SAMUS IS A HOOMEN, GUYZ. SEE? SHE HAS EMOSHUNS TOO, JUZT LIKE JOO. DONTCHA FEEL SO BAD FER HER? BAWWW!" Yes, we get it Saka-san. There's a woman inside that suit. But you're overdoing it. You've gone too far. This woman is NOT like us! Samus lost both of her parents to an evil space pterodactyl/dragon. She has the blood of an advanced alien civilization running in her veins. She has destroyed countless aliens species, like Kraid. Fricking Kraid! Then there's all of the other aliens she's killed. Not to mention 2 freaking PLANETS! I'm pretty sure I never destroyed a planet. Samus is not like us, she should not freak out like us. She is stronger, and braver than that. And how about Anthony's death? That was completely moronic! She JUST saved him from dying, a few minutes ago! You're telling me she can't do it again? You see him falling off the ledge, and Samus does nothing. She could have easily turned on Space Jump, or even grapple-beamed him to safety. I'm sure she could attach the beam to him, because she's grappled living things before. His death was completely unnecessary, and yet another attempt to make us get upset. Booty hooty hoo, it's too obvious and cliche. Screw that. (Note: I haven't finished the game yet, but I suspect that Anthony isn't actually dead.) I'm not gonna say that I don't want ANY story in my Metroid. But I certainly don't want THIS story in my Metroid.

Super heroes, super villains, hot chicks riding motorcycles and shooting guns, and Viewtiful Joe riding Ammy... How awesome can this game get?!
-
Why does every room in this game have invisible walls? A lot of them are completely unnecessary. Nothing ruins exploration and immersion quite as well as an artificial barrier.
-
I just got to the Exam Center today, so I'm still early in the game. Can I say that I LOVE how agile Samus has become? Samus has never been this fun to control, not even in the handhelds. Walljumping feels fantastic (or is it kick-jumping)! I can see why everyone brings up the lack of music. It makes the game feel so sparse and empty, and NOT in a good way. However, an amazing part of the music came when I loaded from a save station for the first time. Hearing the iconic start song being played by an orchestra literally made me squeal with joy IRL.
-
I got the game today. Totally excited! I'm gonna play for a couple of hours. I have high expectations. I hope they aren't dashed to pieces...

Hey man, I'm not saying risks are bad. Nintendo SHOULD take a risk every once in a while. And I DO commend them for taking a risk. However, if that risk (the risk being fully voice-acted cutscenes) DIDN'T pay off (and general consensus seems to agree that they didn't pay off)...Nintendo doesn't get off scott free. That would be like me getting an A+ on a test, when I only did C+ work. So, I guess Nintendo gets probably a C, or a D at this point. They tried something different, and it hurt them as much as it helped. I'm glad they tried, but it's too bad their efforts were subpar. Think about it, very few people (outside of retro purists) would be bashing Nintendo's use of cutscenes in M:OM if the cutscenes were of a better quality (like Uncharted's cutscenes, for instance). The reason that Nintendo is getting professional and amateur backlash is because those cutscenes are not especially good. NOTE: I haven't played the game myself, yet, so I'm relying on reviews and word of mouth from players like yourselves. I admit that I'm not fully qualified to be making this type of argument yet, so take that as you will.
-
^This. A risk is only beneficial when it pays off. Nintendo doesn't deserve kudos for taking risks if it can't pull them off. That's what we call "a swing and a miss."

The Extra Credits thread!! EC is amazing!

Sephire and team, I want thank you for your entry this week. Not only did you make a convincing argument for the protection of video games under free speech, but you accomplished something else: You inspired me, and the passion that I have for video games. If anyone can show us the difference between games being toys for kids, and games being evolved, completely professional entertainment mediums, you certainly can. Thank you for emphasizing the legitimacy of video games. You're contributing a great deal for gamers everywhere; I hope you understand this. Fantastic job, keep going! -
I'm freaking pumped to play this game, but I'm dreading the watching part. Hearing from reviews, and general player *****ing, the cutscenes seem to be JRPG-quality. I'm not gonna knock the people who like those games, but I think JRPG cutscenes are complete and utter crap. Please tell me that M:OM's cutscenes don't feel like something out of Final Fantasy or Star Ocean!

His newest review was pure gold. I quite enjoyed it.
