*wipes sweat from brow* Ah, good. Can't wait for the Nase tune

How many people are on the Earth, 6.5 billion, atm? Assuming no growth rate... 17,662,823,828,392,591 years / 6,500,000,000 people = 2717357.52 years to complete the project per person involved. I was listening to this while reading the thread. It puts it into a whole new perspective. It makes me wonder, though - what IS the bare minimum of time spent to do something like this? The little musical ditties every time you get a few lives takes longer than a second, for example, and Toad picking up the vegetables continues to count for time (he takes about 1/2 a second... but that adds up when dealing with these houses. Oh yeah, listen to this while listening to this stuff - it's freakin' awesome, lol.

Listening to the Electronic Counterpoint is fun (all I've gotten to, atm). Actually, it's pretty catchy. I remember my Senior Recital. It was... quite interesting, and hard as hell to set up (I was foolish to have a full on Choral piece... you can imagine the stress of setting THAT up, lol). You seem to have me beat in length of the recital, though. I'll give this a listen while I can - new music is always awesome . Great work with finishing a degree, though (I'm sure you've finished college, if you've done your recital ).

Every solo piano track from OC ReMix (download)
Gario replied to slickclyde's topic in General Discussion
He probably took the latest torrent and sifted it from there, Xenon. Don't feel too bad, lol. -
... did you even read the first post? I think we can all agree with absolute certainty that it's THEORETICALLY possible to achieve at least 255 lives before the end of the game. Actually, it's closer to something over 500 quindrillion lives before the end.

It'd probably be to his benefit to check back on his status with this and such, too - this is the one and only post the guy has made, and he hasn't been online since .

Nintendo remix album: need game ideas
Gario replied to mikurotoro's topic in Music Composition & Production
Obscure games? I'd highly recommend the most terrible soundtracks you can find and try to get people to make amazing remixes of them (like this one, for example). Always wanted to see a remix series of poor songs becoming revamped into awesomeness. -
Every solo piano track from OC ReMix (download)
Gario replied to slickclyde's topic in General Discussion
This isn't the place to post that... In fact, I don't think OCR wants people to take torrenting and hosting of their music into their own hands at all, since it can be considered an infringement on the musicians, can prevent people from using the OCR torrents, etc., so there really isn't a place to post that on this site . -
I don't think people are aware of how far this track has moved from the original WIP you posted. I'll let you know right now that I'm quite impressed with the progress made on it. I mean, really - it actually is shaping up to be fairly enjoyable. It's not there yet, though, so let's hear what's up in the music. The mixing is far better. It could be better still - the melody is still being buried at times, along with the bass. Rather than bringing them forward, I recommend taking the textures back a few more notches and posting a quieter track in the next WIP. From there we can make it louder, but it's important to have everything mixed very well. I like the drums in this. Hell, I'd even say have more fun with it. They're great to have, but they're a little boring, atm. Play with the hats, with the beats, etc. and find out if there's a sound you'd like to stick with somewhere. This isn't too important for the track, really, but it's something you might want to do simply so you learn drum sequencing better. The only way to move on from noooooobiness is to practice and play with the tools at hand . The arrangement is a little on the 'meh' side. There are good things about it, but it just doesn't feel like enough, yet. Don't worry too much about it yet, but realize it's an issue you'll eventually want to handle. Yeah, the ending isn't that great, but you know that. No use looking at it - just work on an ending, however you'd like to approach it . It's shaping up, but it isn't there yet. Keep at it!

finished Sonic 3 & Knuckles - Sky Sanctuary
Gario replied to Klaus's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Yes, change hosting. Also, change the title of the thread so it's listed as a WIP, not a finished track. MIIIIIDIIIII!!!! I love midi, to be perfectly honest (I wrote in that medium for... about 8 years?), but OCR won't. Use soundfonts or VSTi's. There are all sorts of free sounds out there that will help the quality of the samples you've used. The beginning is a little disorienting because of the separate entrances of the instruments. Have them enter simultaneously. Now for the real issue... It's so large, it's like an elephant sitting in the middle of the remix trashing the whole thing. The guitar. The guitar... That guitar doesn't match the music at all. I mean it sounds like you played something for another song and slapped it on top of the track you had going there. I don't mind a guitar track, but it has to sound remotely related to the music, not just randomly placed in there. Kudos for using a real instrument, but unless you can make it mesh it'd be better just to get rid of the whole thing, as it stands. Here's a small suggestion for the guitar, for starters - bring that first note a half step up. Start the song on the correct note and listen to the difference when you mix it... it'll be astonishing. As for the rest, I'm afraid there's actually not much I can say to help with except rip the guitar part out entirely and start it from scratch. Be very attentive to the music and try to match it. Leave the fancy licks and such out of it until you're comfortable playing the music fairly straight on the guitar. Get better samples, line up the entrances and completely redo the guitar part. There are other details to address (song is pretty short, it's conservative, etc.), but these things simply dominate the mix so heavily atm that they need to be fixed before I can get into any detail on any of the other aspects. Welcome to OCR, and congratulations on your first mix - we all had to start somewhere, and I can assure you even the best remixer on here had trouble making music in the beginning. I wish you the best, and hope you aren't discouraged by my criticisms! -
Pffft, we all know the limit to 1-ups in any old video game game is 256 lives. It's just a fact . Hilarious read, though... Do you have any idea how long it would take to achieve that theoretical number of lives? Especially since you actually need to die the number of lives from the previous stage in order to collect the number of lives possible for the next? Mind boggling stuff.

What... the... FUCK...!? Alright, that's pretty much one of the weirdest things I've seen to date. The Shark Babe game (Shark Attack, or whatever it's called) actually doesn't look that bad. Of course, I pretty much love all shooters, so that could have something to do with it. I don't care about the characters, really - after seeing Schwaltzvald's post, I don't think anyone else COULD care about it...

finished Chrono Trigger Remix Medley (Non-submission)
Gario replied to AngelsDen's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
I'm not sure if it's Youtube, but the clipping is terrible in the beginning (the reverb piano is terribly clippy). I like the rave direction you took. The production is a little iffy, throughout, but it's pretty enjoyable, nonetheless. Good work with the collab . -
LAAAAGUUUUUUUUUNAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA~!!!! Alright, you fulfilled your promise. For that you get a cookie. Not a bad mix, bro. I like the soundscape - very full. The instrument choice is simplistic, for synths, and the guitar isn't too great (although I like the idea of Laguna guitar). It's actually fun what you did, placing solo's and such + expanding a couple sections that aren't normally expanded on (however, that little lick at the end sounds vaguely familiar...). The direction is fairly nice . Some of the instruments seem a bit loud, for my taste, there. Make the mix a bit more balanced - it'll help it quite a bit. Remember to vary your instruments & their functions, too - the same instruments playing the same textures creates a very static soundscape throughout. Otherwise, not too bad - keep up the good work ) EDIT: Not to be a source whore, but it's VIII, not VII

Now that you've got a working link, let's see what you've done, here... Mixing will be a godsend to this WIP, 'cause at the moment the textures just dominate while the rest of the song gets drown. It's surprisingly better than the last version up here, volume-wise (the instruments don't clip nearly as bad - woo for no fuzz!). Mix it so the melodies + themes are in the front of the mix and the textures are farther in the back. I like the guitar thing, but again - put him more in the back. The soundscape issues are still there, but they're not as bad as before. The clipping is still there, too, but it's only in a few spots (the bass, in particular, is a nasty culprit). I love the instrument change - it makes a world of difference. Drums would be nice, but don't overdo it. Something sparse would really help fill the soundscape nicely. The end of the song is a little abrupt, there. If the structure is still in progress, by all means finish it. If it's finished, I'm here to say it's too abrupt . Alrighty, thanks for switching hosts, there - I got your other site to work, just now, but it's quite sporadic and unreliable. You made the right choice hosting on box .
-
Now the link doesn't work for me, either. It was, but it's stopped... Why don't you check out a place like Box.net or Tindeck? They're pretty good (and they're free), so check them out.
-
Ah, that makes sense, Arcana. Thanks - I think I was a little confused because most of my sequencers had a tracker built into them (when I found out Reason did not, I was very sad... alas).
-
Funny coincidence that I was addressing the EQ problems as you wrote that, halc - I'm hoping this version pretty much solves the mixing, there. The guitar leads have been balanced out, I spent as much on the drums as I'm willing to (humanized the hats + did a little velocity work on the bass drum + snare), and the song is a little easier on the ears (because I don't want to take away the power behind it). Oh, and I caught your comment on the beginning just now and threw in a little lick there, Emunator, just for you . I know the synth at 1:26 is awesome, but there really isn't too much room for any more lead work with it. Believe me, I tried, but it really doesn't fit anywhere else. I don't believe it takes away from the song at all - on the contrary, I think it works well as a schelling point of sorts. You should take a gander at the Laguna track I did here a couple of months ago, Halc - it was full of all sorts of awesome synth leads (part of the reason I didn't put as much in here - trying to diversify my approach a bit). Rocket Slam Unless there's anything significantly wrong, I'm calling this done, here. Thanks for all the help .

Bionic Commando - Main Theme! (WIP 2)
Gario replied to John Revoredo's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
I've liked this one for some time, now. Sorry I didn't respond here - I didn't see you get this one up here. Not much else to say here, except I expect it to open up to a song with something that fills the soundscape more, but that's more a problem with my own perception than with the song. Always liked it, and always find myself going back to it on my hard drive. Nice work. You won't see this message at least until the middle of July, so... yeah, still feel like commenting on it. -
Good luck with your work. Just letting you know if people aren't too enthusiastic about joining you, though, it's because of these albums already up (and the other one that's in the works) make it seem like a redundant idea. Of course, they're not exactly what you're planning (all vocal rather than freestyle electronic or orchestra), but they're close. Nonetheless, I wish you luck - I recommend looking at a list of available singers on here and PM'ing a couple of them to see if any are interested. I also recommend posting some WIP's of your work (or finished work, if you have it) in the VG Remixing forum (or 'original WIP'; whichever is the case) and linking to those, from here, so the singers understand the quality of music you're going to put them on. All of this being said, I wish you the best of luck - we can never have too much David Wise on here, .

finished Rad Racer 2 (NES) - Fire in the Tires (Gum Ball Crash)
Gario replied to Level 99's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
I like the clarity of the track, now - the EQ'ing is quite clean. The extra likes and such that are through the track add some flavor to it all that I can appreciate, so nice work with it . The change-up in style roughly a minute into it helps it along quite nicely, too. I feel all the changes you made changed it from 'cover' to 'ReMix', so I believe you're fine, in that aspect. The bass presence isn't too hot, atm. With the driving sound that it has, the bass should be stronger. Bring em' out. The echo at the end is a bit annoying - clean up the cutoff, there. I know you can do it . Otherwise, it's great. Love the sound. I hope people are missing out on this only because the other track we're working on is taking everyone's attention away . Great stuff!
