Oh shit, that makes me look like an ass, eh? I saw that, then saw Asian girls, mind blanked out, etc... Alright, anyone understand the Korean commercial, then?

I think if I ever visited Japan, my heart would explode from the culture shock... Did I say shock? I meant culture electrocution. Does anyone understand what they were trying to advertise? I have no clue based on the visual cues alone (and the musical number... well, obviously makes me think of a very popular video game, so I doubt that helps me much).

finished One Winged Angel - BadAzz

I've been listening to this for the past month at least once a day. All I can say is that I hope someday I can produce sound like this - it kicks my ass so hard. I mean seriously, this could make any adolescent's balls drop, with all that bass. Amazing track. -

Mmm... drums need work (like the other track I commented on, there). Again, a lot of the sounds need to sound more human (although the beats change up considerably more in this track than the other one I commented on). Velocities + reverb are a good idea, like Rozo said. I like the drum track itself, though - it has a lot of flavor in the beats, here. Check some of the notes, there - some of them are off from the source (like the 0:12-0:14 honky tonk piano). Fix em' up. The samples are midi throughout (I even recognize them, sample by sample, lol). Look into some free soundfonts or vst/vsti plugins for your instruments - it'll improve the sound by a whole lot. Like Rozo said, reverb is important. You really can't do much with midi, though (unless you double up the instruments and custom-make the delay/reverb, but we won't go there). Get better samples, then mess with reverb and such to give the sound a richer, more realistic sound. Dry won't fly, here. For OCR specifically, conservative is not acceptable. If you don't care about that, then don't worry about it since it's not a bad thing, per se. If you look at OCR as a goal at some point, though, then be aware that they don't accept music that's too close to the source. Welcome to OCR, by the way -

Hypothetically, I'm sure there are people that could pick you up (as long as I could find the airport, I could pick you up). There are people looking for roommates that could possibly provide you with a space, if you ask around. I'm keeping an ear open for people staying the entire time, myself, but if I don't find one I'd be more than happy to provide. -
I just listened to the sample of the Golden Axe song. It's got a great funk sound, there... until the synths came in at 0:29. They just don't fit the genre at all, for me. It also creates a great deal of clipping, muddying up the production of the track. I'd find another sound for that line (even another synth - the synth that comes to the front at 0:59 was great). The texture is great, but it seems a little bit static. I can't say if this remains a problem throughout, since you're only posting a sample, but from what I hear you need to change up the textures a bit more often. For OCR, it's a bit on the conservative side, but I can't say whether it's too conservative (again, not enough music to go by). It isn't written with OCR in mind, I don't think, so it's not a problem - it's just something I thought you'd like to know, just in case. It's not bad at all, otherwise - funk is probably one of the catchiest genres in existence. Nice work, but there's room for improvement.

Hmm... Well, I'm assuming on August 1st Jade, Starla or Monobrow will have a great big message telling us what everyone is planning, roomwise. Nonetheless, I request that we all know who needs rooms/looking for roommates before August 5th - until then, we can cancel rooms, if we find people who need roommates. I mean, Obtuse and I are both looking for a roommate, but if no one is available one of us could simply cancel the room and bunk with the other. Probably doesn't need to be said, but I'd like things to go smoothly, so it's better to say too much than too little. -

Be easy on him - he misunderstood the intent of my first post. We've cleared it up since then, and seems appreciative of it, now. He seems to be taking the criticism well enough, now. I do agree that he should've put it up here before submitting it, but we all make mistakes (I did that very same thing two years ago). -
Alright, got mine up. It's going to be tough - I think both of the mixes are pretty good, here. Can't wait for the results - great job on yours, Divine Wrath . Oh, and you don't get the 'I KILLED ORC BADGE', Nase. Sorry - I know you were looking forward to it .

wip Soul Calibur 2 - Healing Winds Remix

Who says God doesn't have a sense of humor? He plopped you on this Earth two decades too late. We really, REALLY need some footage of Maxi running on the beach to this. You know, on tinted film with slow motion, etc.. Rozo, you're funny. Emunator, you're funny. Willrock, you're funny. We're all just a bunch of comedians on here, EH?! -
wip Final Fantasy 8 - The Extreme (female vocalist request)
Gario replied to Nekofrog's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
I think in this case it's overcompression I'm hearing, not 'clipping', per se (except at 2:02 - 2:20, especially 2:18, where I think it's getting really hot to the point of clipping). I slipped up a bit. Oh, and get familiar with the source, bro. It's pretty much the best final boss song from the Final Fantasy series . -
wip Forever, Young Rachel (Final Fantasy VI)
Gario replied to Josh Whelchel's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
I've been trying to listen to this for the past few days, simply because FFVI doesn't get enough remixes on here; this track especially has too few remixes. I like the concept behind it - vocal work with electronic backdrop. I feel the soundscape smothers the possible vocal part, though - the thick lead used as a texture is too dominating, for my taste. Soften the sound of it, there. Other than that (and the rough vocals, but they're not permanent), it sounds smooth and sexy. Waitin' for an update, bro. -
Rozo said it before, but I'll pipe in and say again this is a dead thread. The OP hasn't been on OCR for over 2 years, so it's a waste of time to share any opinions on here. Posting in here makes it look like the remix is currently being worked on, so it has an adverse affect on the WIP forum by creating a mess of dead threads. May this be the last post in here.

wip Final Fantasy 8 - The Extreme (female vocalist request)
Gario replied to Nekofrog's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
I remember this track from back when (does this mean you're done with boot camp?). I'm going to make a quick quip about the source comparison again - the beginning arpeggios still are not the source, and IMHO they are not changed for the better (I take it you used the same track as before for the very beginning). You know, if you can make up very quick tabs for 0:04 - 0:09 I could reply with the exact notation from the source. I KNOW I'm being reaaally picky about it, but for one it's one of my favorite parts of the source, and two you're Nekofrog so I don't want to hear anything other than perfection from you. Moving on from that... EQ is very heavy in the lower mids, but I assume that's because you're not done so... yeah. It's causing clipping throughout the track, so it distorts how I hear it, even as a WIP. Meh, not too important, yet. I can't tell whether it's from the aforementioned EQ issue mentioned above or if it's a mixing issue, but 2:18 is very, very crowded. Enough so where I can't really comment on it yet, musically (I think I hear some strange things going on there, but it's too crowded for me to tell if it's artifacts or purposeful). I love the breakdown at 2:02. In fact, I can see this really taking a powerful approach to the song, since you'll have these lighter portions (with the singer) combined with the already heavy sections the source provides. To be frank, there's not much I can say to help (since I think the things I pointed out are post-production issues you'll deal with when you're at... well, post-production). I love the direction you're taking the track, and I love the idea of female vocalists getting in on this. You should try to get into contact with Diotrans or DA (although I can't say whether DA is too available, after getting the job as a Judge, and all). Do you have music written up for them to sing (sheet music with lyrics, or even just a mock track with words will help them)? If so, it'd probably make it easier on them (and thus make them more willing to participate). -

It's... a tough call, for me. Nekofrog or Sixto. Ack, can't decide (meaning this one is freakin' awesome). I heard this before in the WIP forums waaaay back when, but it wasn't anything like this version. Epic, awesome, just great metal. Everyone! It's Sexto! Go listen now! -

Wait, didn't you do this a while ago...? Wait, that was Txai. Let's give this a whirl... I can see you went more for the 'SMASH-YOUR-GODDAMN-FACE-WITH-SYNTH-METAL-PWNAGE'. Good work - my face has been smashed, officially. Time to spend a few days in recovery. Love the Genesis tunage . -
wip FF8 - The Man With The Machine Gun (Dirtydelay Remix)
Gario replied to Dirtydelay's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
This is the year of Laguna, I just know it. I think this is the 7th one I've seen up on here, now. Don't worry, I'm not holding that against you in any way - it's just that good of a source, lol. Onto the mix! Alright, the production isn't too bad on this one (although it's shy of the DKC track posted on here earlier). The side chaining is quite distracting in this track - it needs to be toned down a bit, there. That or make it more consistent with a solid beat - it's very distracting when it's used for the more syncopated rhythms in the bass drums. Speaking of drums, that snare is very weak, in this track. Get some strength in there - I literally can't hear it in 90% of the track. Understandably this is a WIP, but those drums are quite dry. Try spicing them up with more hats throughout the song or something (I hear the breakdown using hats, but the rest of the song lasts too long without anything interesting). PLEASE check your arrangement and compare it with the source - 1:35 & 3:03 are quite off, there. Compare it to the source again and fix it. The arrangement itself is a bit on the conservative side, here. Too much so for OCR, atm. It's still a WIP, so be willing to change the source around and play with it a little bit more. The sound is fairly plain, right now, but I've already seen what you can do with a track. You have a framework to work from now, so expand on it and beef out the sound. I'll be listening. -

If he wanted to keep the file length, he could reduce it to 96kbps. I found for this particular track it brings it down below the maximum size and retains most of the quality (the instruments used here aren't affected too poorly). -
I'm quite shocked by the lack of feedback, here - no one is posting anything? Let's see if I can get something up, here - I hate to see an ORC go to waste. Anyone care to join me?
