  1. Next time just say 'vocals', since 'acapella' means something very different. Using the musical vocabulary properly helps your image as a musician I think it could explore other areas of the song, even if it is house. You use only one part of the source for the entire track, so it's hardly expansive enough, even for that genre. Pretty much all the effects were effective, imho. I like effects . Cheese = 1:12. On Tindeck it's hard to get the time without downloading it. I think you can fix the sidechain problem by adjusting the attack of the intruding instruments by a few milliseconds during the chain. It ought to help, at any rate.
  2. You're already pretty respected for your trance on here. That's why I can freely make fun of your older stuff - I know you can do a whole lot better, now. Like I said, it's a way to see how far you've progressed (which by the looks of it is pretty darn far, here), so believe me, my comments really don't affect the music you're making today .
  3. Hmm... I'm suspecting both your files are too large to be accepted on OCR (8mb limit). Also, they only accept between 96 & 192kbps, which is lower than your 'submission' edit. Of course, that takes care of the filesize, too, so it works for you. What do you mean by vocal 'acapella' remix? If I'm not mistaken, an 'Acapella' track is one with vocals only, which neither the source nor the remix are. Just trying to figure that out, here. Here's some tips on the remix - the cheese sounds are terrible. Not that they're always bad, but they really don't mesh well with everything else you've got going, here. The saw texture isn't as bad, but you can do better than that. The arrangement is pretty boring. You play around with the same texture again and again. It gets pretty boring, even on the short version. You need some more meat on the arrangement to stand a chance on OCR. I really like the effects and such on this track. You played with them like a champ, and I liked it. Keep it up in your future tracks . There are some production issues in the submission edit (hard clipping, for example), and the side chaining sounds weird with the attack of the texture hitting a few milliseconds before the chaining occurs. Not too bad, but not a submission to OCR yet. Good luck with any future endeavors. You have the effects and such going for you; all you need is a great arrangement to go along with it.
  4. I normally reprimand people for posting more than one track in a thread... but I'll make an exception. I can tell these are pretty old, dude - certainly not up to the standard you've set, there. I notice you used to like to stick to the same sample set, beats and soundscape when you made these. Also, production be damned, clipping was in vogue when you made these 'Course, it's better than all but my newest mixes by far, so I can't really say much, can I? Nice to hear how you've progressed, there. It's always fun to hear old stuff from good remixers.
  5. ... will your reign of terror never end, No Escape? I don't think he'll have a problem with the production, in the end - right now the mixing + production is terrible, but I suspect he's simply doing the arrangement and waiting for the singer before he really gives the production the overhaul it needs. I wouldn't worry about the final product, when it comes to the production value. And yes, Nekofrog's MM2 Wily track is better (only by a little bit, though).
  6. Beginning = fixed. You make me happy, Neko . For the most part, the issues that I'm hearing are, again, mixing and mastering concerns, which I'm under the impression you're going to take care of when the arrangement aspect is finished. The only part that bugs me are the power chords at 2:47 - 3:08. This comes down to personal preference, most likely, but I feel simply using the bottom note when playing the guitar there would clean up the soundscape and make the harmonizations mesh together easier. Other than that (and the mixing/mastering) it seems pretty good to me. Keep it up (and good luck finding a singer - maybe I can ask a few people at the Las Vegas meetup, if that'd help).
  7. Oh don't worry, I plan to . I need to get my gas money to get home somehow.
  8. I don't know about too many places out there, but I was intending on going to at least a few casinos while I was there. I'm assuming, since we're out there, there'll be at least a few people interested in the casinos there, so perhaps a night or two at the tables (or whatever your game is) could be planned? Just a thought
  9. I took a stab at the Woodman track years and years ago (before I knew anything about this program), because it's just a great track. I second this request.
  10. If you're looking for a specific remixer to remix a track, why don't you just PM him and make the request? I don't think posting in here saying 'it would be cool if bLiNd did a remix of so-and-so' will get you nearly as far as a direct request, there (unless, of course, bLiNd just so happened to walk in here and take the request). I like the stuff posted in here, though (especially Zylance's track - I don't see even bLiNd making one much better than that, imho). The Gogetails22122 track is really fun, too .
  11. You can resubmit music as much as you'd like, just be sure that there's some real substantial improvement on the track if it was rejected without going to the panel, since that generally means it has a long way to go. Now that I'm here, I guess there's no harm in taking a look at it, here... My guess is that your e-mail looked a little like this... That's my guess, and here's why. The samples you've used (particularly the 'real' instruments) just don't cut it, as they are. They just sound too fake, overall - the strange string swells, the hard reverse cymbal, the static piano, bells, etc.. I don't think it's something you can fake by messing with the attacks, delays and volumes, either, since the samples sound pretty fake. Get some new samples (I'm sure there are some free samples out there that could work better than you've got here). After that fact, the production is pretty sloppy. There's just too much going on in the soundscape throughout - it creates all sorts of hard clipping (that's the constant 'fuzz' that we're hearing, there), You need to clean out the instruments that don't need to be there and open up the space better. The mids on the master track seem exceptionally high throughout, amplifying your soundscape problem. Turn the mids down, raise the highs a hair and it'll clean up the sound considerably. The drums are too... repetitive. They need to vary far more than they do, now. The arrangement, while it DOES have a few interesting and neat original ideas throughout, overall it's just too close to the source. I'd say it's at about 15-85 ratio, when it comes to original vs source. This site looks more for roughly 30-70 to 50-50, in it's mix (the numbers are made up, but work well as a rule of thumb, here). You need to mix up the source material a bit more to make it here on OCR. It needs quite a bit of work, but that's not to say I didn't enjoy it. It's actually pretty neat, with the orchestra + guitar. It's just not there yet. If you want to go for it, there's a good place to start again. With enough work OCR will accept a resubmission - look at Black Panther's recent track and realize it's a double resubmission, there. He got rejected TWICE before it was finally posted. May his determination be an inspiration to us all. Good luck with it .
  12. Hey, this thread has been made before (It's pretty old, but a relevant necro isn't a bad thing, here ). Enjoy it in all of it's noobish glory.
  13. I'm keeping a list of how many Laguna remixes are coming out in the WIP forums, this year. I think the count is close to 8 or 9, atm... I love you, man. I can't blame anyone, though - it IS a sweeeet source to work from, lol. I'm really considering making a 'Laguna' remix album from all these remixes coming out on here. As for the remix itself, it's a completely different approach to the track than anyone else has taken (which took me completely by surprise, here). The quality of the sounds are pretty good and the arrangement is fairly interesting. It's like a spiritual version of the source, which is interesting and fairly enjoyable. The soundscape is pretty quiet on this one, although because of the sound you're trying to get out of it it's fairly difficult to fill. It does need to be filled, though - otherwise it sounds unfinished. I highly recommend filling the emptier parts with some ambient sound (trees rustling, perhaps, an animal chirping/making noise, etc.). That way the soundscape will fill out in a non-obtrusive way. The volume is pretty quiet, due to the soundscape. It won't get too much louder, either, if you want to keep the sound you've got going, here. A little volume with some limiting could take this to a new height, here . It's a touch repetitive, overall. While I hear all of the variations you're doing, there, the theme you use doesn't change, nor do the harmonies. It makes the piece pretty static and numbing, after a while... I personally think it's great like that as a ambient track you'd play in the background of something else, but not as something you'd sit down and really listen to on your own. The J's will hold that against you - OCR doesn't really want ambient tracks on there, if that's what you're shooting for. The synths+guitar are a bit lame, here, compared to the instruments you used. Fortunately they aren't too prominent, there, so it doesn't take too much from the track. Some more subtle sounds may be the way to go, there (like a few of the background synths I hear, periodically). I like it. Keep up the good work. It's not quite an OCR track, but it's actually pretty nice, for what it is.
  14. It just clicked - Brandon is going to Las Vegas, too, and he has my request. Thus, I have a message for him. YOU BETTER FINISH THE REMIX I GAVE YOU OR I WILL KEEEEEEL YOU WHEN WE GET THERE~!!! That is all. Time to get back to fretting about MY unfinished remix .
  15. I can't say how much I've appreciated this site, considering it pretty much outlines exactly what I've believed about video game music most my life. The community adds, rather than detracts, from this, which is pretty amazing. I'm looking forward to what it'll bring in the next few years, peeps - see ya there!
  16. ... those are some pretty random critiques, No Escape. Hey, Soundcloud isn't THAT bad of a host, really - he changed it from before, which I appreciate. IF he does get another host, though, I'm an advocate of Box.net. Meh, host wars isn't something I'd get into now, though. And lulz at the shameless recruiting.
  17. But... but I DIDN'T make that joke, see? I said I wouldn't!
  18. Haaaappy birthday! I'd say something trying to be clever but it's actually lame like 'Keep doing circles around them remaxer WANNABES', but I won't. I promise.
  19. I'm glad that I'm a wanted man. It feels so terrible not being wanted.
  20. Meh, I did alright last year (with even less time) so don't worry about me too much, BP. In fact, there'll probably be quite a few late comers, so don't worry about it too much. I better pull through, or Rama'll kill me.
  21. ... Damnit, I wish the OCR BC album would've thought of that date. It's already a pretty epic album, but some members (a.k.a. Me) can't seem to get their act together and finish their stupid track for it at that time. Ack, well now I've got BC on my mind. Time to break out the NES and play it again.
  22. Hell, I'm pretty much bringing my entire sound studio with me (in the form of my laptop)... doesn't mean I'm going to do too much remixing while I'm there, though. Oh, and Diotrans, don't take your guitar on an airplane... .
  23. ...AAAAH HA HA HA! That's the... um... 7th or 8th Laguna remix I've heard in here, this year. That's freakin' awesome. All that aside, let's hear what's goin' down. I think you've merged them together pretty damn well, here. Not quite flawless, but pretty well, nonetheless. Some of the notes don't work too well together (like at 0:54), but it's a pretty damn good arrangement, despite the few odd areas (especially the great little ditty at 2:58, lol). The soundscape is very hollow, throughout the track. You really need to fill it out with pads, strings, textures of instruments... whatever fits your fancy. It's just too hollow, atm. The drums are annoyingly repetitive. Some of the synths are piercing, but that might be blunted after the soundscape is filled out a bit more. I think this mix is hilarious, myself, and it has some potential to be a really great remix on this site. The arrangement is freakin' brilliant, but the rest of it is lacking, atm (production, instrumentation, mastering). I want to see this happen, bro. If you don't continue with it please submit it to OLR as is... Actually, submit this version to OLR, right now, then continue working on the track, because it's just too awesome as it is not to do that.
  24. FUCK... you remembered. I'll get something good out, don't fret! I'm toying with some ideas, right now, so it'll come to be before the deadline . I'm trying to get a project song finished before Vegas, as well (which is coming along very quickly, now), so... yeah, I'll get on it soon.
