  1. I'd recommend Twin Snakes. I played both, but Twin Snakes before MGS2. As such, I was used to all the new gameplay mechanics MGS2 had. If you're going to play these back to back, it's the way to go. I really didn't notice a "decline" in voice acting, as aside from Gray Fox (Rob Paulsen didn't fit at all), it was all the same people. The Ninja is even made up to be a bigger threat in Twin Snakes. As for music in the first MGS, the only thing I remember is "The Best is Yet to Come" (and it is amazing) which, if I remember right, is still in Twin Snakes. The first person mode does make the game easier, but the new AI does counter that. Many of my older hiding places weren't so safe. As for the new choreography, Snake is a super soldier and we got to see what that means. I am trying to see the complaints for the GameCube version, but most of them I can't see be anything other than nostalgia. If you despise the MGS2 mechanics in general, hate Rob Paulsen or Ryuhei Kitamura, or have a "thing" for Playstation's grainy polygons, play Solid. Otherwise, Twin Snakes.
  2. Ha, reminds me of the discrepancy between Vanilla Ice and Queen. Someone should edit together a mashup as was done between Ice Ice Baby and Under Pressure.
  3. Why? They haven't done something new for the original Blue Bomber for years. They haven't trusted his selling power. Downloadable content sounds completely logical from a company stand point. It's 8-bit, so I'm not as worried as I would have been had they continued in the PlayStation's style.
  4. Geez this guy sucks at lying. Is he seriously expecting us to believe he let a hacker take credit for him for OCR for at least the past five months, and he never noticed?
  5. Well duh, you're comparing someone whose just received the mutation with one who's coming to terms with that curse. Spider-Man is a nerd who is no longer a loser because he has super powers. In depth and repeated emo retrospective about his powers is not preferred. You sound like you enjoyed number 3. Spider-Man has the whole "With great power..." bit, yes, but it's not priority. Hulk is a man who avoids society because of the danger his very angry alter-ego poses when he smashes the beJesus out of everything in sight. Again, the emo "Oh my God I'm a monster!" retrospective is present, but doesn't take priority. I paid money for the smashy, not the whiney. These are comic book movies, they're not going to be oscar worthy material. Ang Lee tried, and that was his mistake.
  6. Mega Man was born and bred on the NES. Why not send him back? Capcom used to push a Mega Man out once a year. Would it be so hard to try it again? Mega Man was NES, X was SNES, and Legends was PS. With downloadable games, why not send all of them back to their origin. It's not the only series I'd like to see have a retro sequel either. It's possible, just not at all that likely.
  7. Wait, you're not even going to talk to this ass? Even if YouTube takes it down, he's gotten away with it. People will believe it was taken down for being a remix of copyrighted materail, as YouTube will take down original works like parodies or redubs. He'll learn nothing and try again. He even says he lost an account to them already. Gee, I wonder what for? Creeps like this need exposed. There's nothing wrong with the simple spamming of the video or his channel about the truth (not insults). It hurts nothing and makes it difficult for him to keep his dirty little secret. Instead of the praise he seeks (which should be directed to you), he'll get scorn for being a thief and a liar. Some of OCR may cross the line, or fantasize about obliterating the line, but the basic act of getting the truth out there really should be done. I hate it when people get their cheap fame like this. It's one thing to not credit anybody and do it ambiguously, but this one has flat out claimed your work as his, as well as other OCRemixers.
  8. It's only a dream, but I'm praying for an NES Mega Man 9 on the VC. Same with a Mega Man X9 on the SNES VC. Both series sadly went downhill once they left their system of origin.
  9. I got back from it about an hour ago. The climatic battle at the end makes sense. That alone makes it worlds better than the first one.
  10. Try Tekkaman Blade (aka Teknoman) or Escaflowne.
  11. Roar! from Cloverfield hasn't been released on any soundtrack. No idea how they came to that conclusion. It did come out on ITunes three months later because the demand surged, but I've never used them. People who want a real copy are still out of luck.
  12. BOOMSHAKALAKA! Midway knew the right way to do sports. Good times indeed.
  13. But how did the selling of the AFL and NCAA rights go down. Did they follow in the NFL's example, or did EA go after them to make sure companies like Take-Two didn't have a fall back? Depending on that, these guys may have a case. The NFL news disappointed me because I enjoyed NFL Blitz, but figured they would just adjust to arena football. Midway always put some awesome arcade simplicity and over the top antics in their sports titles, and arena football would cater better to that anyways. Then EA snatched up the AFL rights too, which I don't think they even use. Midway still tried to get around EA, but that didn't work so well. EDIT: Well... looks like they've made at least one AFL game. According to the EA site, only one.
  14. It's not that weird, both Eric and Kennedy are common names. Hell, just check out my real name field.
  15. You guys realize that the movie series is going to end differently than the TV series. From what I heard and saw so far, the Rebuild is all the Eva without the emo. Well... without most of the emo. Shinji is still there... Anyways, I enjoyed the first Rebuild and look forward to the next one, especially if they follow through on what they said about the ending.
  16. Ha, it's always amusing that instead of learning from what's going on around him, he just digs his grave deeper and deeper. If we're lucky, his continued shenanigans will push an "Enhanced Disbarment" to a ban.
  17. 22, and how often I use the Wii depends on how you look at it. I actually have only Zelda and Sports, so I don't play Wii titles on it very often. On the other hand, I download and play so much for the VC. So I use it a lot, just for older games from other systems.
  18. Rare's talent had either jumped ship (the TimeSplitter team) or been assimilated into Nintendo, it's why they let the company go. Consider their last major Nintendo project was Star Fox Adventures, which is nothing like what they were once capable of. Rare is a different company now, and they haven't made a great game in years. They hype up the next project each time only to have it disappoint. I'm not saying the next Banjo-Kazooie will suck, just that I think low expectations are key here.
  19. Not to mention the plethora of seasons clocking in at around 13 episodes.
  20. I don't know about you guys, but I don't consider the twenty-something episode series's short. If you can find it, the Birdy the Mighty OVA is pretty good. Another good four episode OVA is Macross Zero. No Macross knowledge needed either, as I had none when I saw it. Fantastic.
  21. Part of it is that Japanese never really had a standard until 140 years ago or so. Japan's mountains and islands created a great deal of isolation between communities, and the language has a fair amount of variety even today. Japanese gameshows and news have a lot of subtitles added to help people in remote areas understand what's being said. From what I can figure, it seems like a lesser degree of what happened in China between Mandarin and Cantonese. On a separate note, does anyone know when the US is getting the first Rebuild of Eva movie? I know ADV pretty much worships their bread and butter series, so I'm just curious if anyone knows how and/or when they're bringing it over. It just hit DVD when I left Nagoya a few weeks ago.
  22. Not if you played the Japanese version of Mario games. I can't remember any specific quotes, but Elmer Fudd Dr. Light from Mega Man 8 was hilarity.
  23. Crap, I can't believe I spaced like that. I was thinking hiragana; I don't know why I did that, and apologize. You guys are right, furigana is accepted. In general that set of kanji is written out with an h with hu differing depending on who you ask. I learned it ha hi hu he ho in my classes, but switched to hiragana relatively quickly in writing. Since keyboards will intake both hu and fu, that issue never really comes up. As for pronunciation, it can go either way as technically it's neither 'f' nor 'h'. I've met Japanese who pronounce Fuji closer to "Huji", but that may vary by dialect. In the case of hurigana, I actually pronounce it closer to "hu" and have never been corrected so far (I could just be lucky).
  24. So who all got their self a Darkrai? It's the same one Japan got last summer, in case any are curious. Mystery gift, cherish ball, and both Dialga's and Palkia's signature moves.
  25. It's a delicate relationship. Fansubbing does bring almost every anime to our attention, even if only a few episodes, which gives popularity a chance to build. The license companies then know what will do very well. The problem then becomes that many fansubbers don't stop or take their material down once the anime is licensed in their respective country. The exception there however, is that a few distributors don't have much respect for the medium, like 4Kids. In those cases, I'm all for continuing the fansubbing process. It does seem to make a difference, seeing as 4Kids dropped One Piece, and Viz does the (horribly expensive) uncut Naruto boxsets. I heard Funimation tried to sell uncut Shaman King episodes, but I've never found those. That was just a terrible mess the moment 4Kids decided the show was marketable to 8 year olds. To be fair, it doesn't help the industry in general that the average anime fan tends to be poor, save the occasional collector who usually serves as a source for a club. Yes, but if you're already learning it in a classroom setting, why bother to learn it through anime. It's good practice, but I don't need the hurigana (I'm curious where you learned it 'f'urigana) and kanji force fed to me, often in annoying fashion. There are people out there who think they can learn Japanese solely by watching anime, and that's one reason why some of the groups are so literal and leave as much Japanese as possible. For people who really are that good, they're wasting their potential by avoiding any manner of formal instruction. The ones who don't learn it but think they do are one of the primary targets of the whole "weeaboo" crap, and annoy the living shit out of legitimate students. I don't hold anything against the fansubbers for the core of what they do. As you say, they are fellow fans of anime with a better command of the language than I have. I just don't like the loud, brash, ignorant, and occasionally self-righteous anime fans they cater to, and feel they shouldn't encourage them in the wrong direction. They should translate as much as possible and force these guys to learn the important nuances they've missed from a better source.
