  1. That's amusing. I always see Japan as having more of the ultimate hard core fanbase willing to learn their favorite game as a science. I guess Pocket Monsters just doesn't bring out the "Must show computer program it is plaything!" in them.
  2. Wow, Nintendo's M rated games can be counted on one hand, I think. They didn't use the Wii logo, so it looks like Nintendo is actually helping out with this. Is that true? And then, how much input will Nintendo actually have? Depending on that, this could just join the already massive pile of games hurt by shoddy motion controls. My interest is peaked, but I'm not getting my hopes up.
  3. And there in lies the thing, technically he never took credit. But, really, shouldn't this be common sense, to tell where something comes from if you never made it? I honestly do think he knows better and is playing this little game on purpose to gain some popularity guilt free. However, if he gives a "Whoops, sorry" and makes the necessary changes after letting him know to simply credit the original remixers, then I think it's a dead issue. That is, unless any of the original remixers want him to take their work down. But if he wants to be an ass about it after a fair request...
  4. In general yes. But we've seen people politely confronted over plagiarism before and they foolishly squander a chance to settle things nice and easy. They figure either A) you're stupid and they can still get away with it, or what could you really do since the higher ups may not even care. OCRAPS then shows them that plagiarism by and large will not go unnoticed, and it will not make them popular. Yes it's mean, but as long as this forum only rolls out when it's deserved, I see nothing wrong with it. Justice of the mob can be dangerous, but there are assholes out there in serious need of a wake up call. If this guy doesn't heed polite warnings, OCRAPS should and will rip him a new one.
  5. My local flea markets have always had an ample supply of older controllers in fairly good condition. It's where I picked up my second SNES controller to replace the crappy Tengen one I had for years. Some might have qualms about the reliability of the merchandise, but I have yet to regret a buy from these places. I wish you luck on your quest.
  6. For starters, this is from Battlemaniacs, is it not? I don't have much musical experience, but I can give some general feedback. The piece starts out very strong, but towards the middle the guitar starts to drown out the other instruments. The ending is extremely weak. Otherwise I like were this is going, I hope you can beat the judge panel with this one eventually.
  7. Code Geass, yes. Gundam 00, no. It's Wing Redux with some extremely contemporary issues and some anime stock characters from other genres thrown in. I'm probably missing alot of good stuff since I only viewed the show in a language I half understand, but damn, watching the show was like watching everything popular thrown into a mech show for the sake of being popular. I'm coming back to America very soon and I'll rewatch the series over the summer. I hope the intricate details turn it around for me. As for Macross... you mean Frontier, right? Just clarifying, since the original is the way robot anime used to be.
  8. It's not that fast, a two year hiatus is fairly on par with the third games of the other releases. Weird to think about it like that though, D/P does still feel pretty new.
  9. I haven't played the Wii game yet, but I remember hearing hype that it was supposed to feature destructible terrain from moves like Earthquake. Did that actually get implemented? If so, that's a step in the direction of what you're talking about. Not to mention there are already sandstorms, rain, and bright sunshine that affect poke'mon and their moves. I could see cave battles weakening grass types or fighting in water increasing the speed of water types, unless an ice type was present. Although actually targeting the terrain for attacks would start to get overly complicated.
  10. "Blah, blah, blah" You're the one who's called me out on being rude? Are you serious? He's no more right than I am. As Brushfire put forth, this issue is splitting hairs. The "deal with it" was towards me not considering the handhelds separate. Sorry if it didn't come off that way, but throwing insults and derogatory sarcasm in cold blood kind of crosses the line. And don't give a bullshit claim like "everyone else understands" your way of thinking, it doesn't fly in an argument, real or trivial. I garuntee you can find at least one other person who would share my opinion, provided they even care. As for your compatibility example, not all PS2 games play on the first PS2s because of various reasons, such as dual layers on the disc. Minimal changes allow the newer Sony hardware to have an easier time reading the newer games, does this mean the 30000, 50000, 70000, and 90000 models are different generations? Depending on your chosen definition of generation regarding consoles, the answer is both yes and no.
  11. And I'm going to stand by my comment, I feel I was on par with The Damned's tone and far less rude than you. You apparently had some epic need to defend someone and threw out an insult without really paying attention to what was posted. I was clarifying my reasoning to The Damned and stated exactly why I considered the generations the same. In fact, it would have been a dead issue, he considers the two separate while I don't, and I told him why, the difference in hardware wasn't that significant. Then you stepped like you were trying to get the "zing" on the argument and correct the clarification I had just made as if I hadn't read anything he wrote. The Damned was just rude in how he called me out on the info I gave, and I answered in kind. You on the other hand, were just plain ignorant and insulting. Arse indeed. -------------------------------------- For Overflow: Sounds like you're farther along in Fire Red than I am. Wish I could help.
  12. Indeed you are, the comic is nearing the end, as the Light Warriors now have destroyed all four fiends and given the orbs of light to Sarda. Of course, with how long Clevinger took to do each leg of the story so far, 8-Bit's probably still got a good year left to go. The comic has its ups and downs, but I still enjoy it.
  13. Man, I haven't heard of the 8-Bit flash movies in a long time. Several popped up around the same time, and I always thought the saturation just led to the inevitable burn out. 8-Bit is sadly nowhere near as popular as it once was.
  14. I've always wanted to see a Team Rocket version of Poke'mon games, or something akin to that. Being Nintendo though, it's only a dream.
  15. I honestly feel the inability to truly define what makes "sufficient amounts of research" for a creator will be the bill's downfall. If Congress doesn't realize that this cannot be defined, the courts will. The bill went before Congress before, two years ago and died, or at least that's what I've read from those telling artists to stop freaking out. This time around, some popular blogger found it and cried Armageddon. And this most certainly is a political issue; it belongs in PPR.
  16. Personally, I prefer just blowing the whole barrel sky high. The damn fish never see it coming. On topic to the off topic: Catchy! Thanks for sharing. What's the name of the song.
  17. That's easy, the thread has already brought up that the Wii has the market share right now, and is current gen. In the Metal Slug Anthology example, yes I would grab the PS2 version, only for the better control scheme. My point there is more, if the layout already exists, is it really going to hurt the designers that much to make the cube or classic controller an option. Take some of the GameCube ports for example, do they offer the Cube controller as an option? I'm not sure about Resident Evil 4, but in Rampage: Total Destruction's case, no. And yes, I'm well aware Rampage is not a good game to begin with, but I'm a fan of the series and it's a good example of a game where the work for a control scheme had already been done, yet was completely omitted.
  18. Which is exactly why I said "significant changes". I wouldn't go around calling others an arse with a comeback like that. And thanks for your support Brushfire.
  19. I've never considered the GameBoy, Pocket, and Color separate generations; there wasn't any significant changes between them. The addition of color was awesome, but it was still just a GameBoy with color, deal with it. It's like going "OMG NiNTenD0's announced the next gen of handhelds!" every time they make the current model smaller and/or brighter. The SP is still just a GBA, the DS Lite is still just a DS, and the Gamboy Color was still just a Gameboy.
  20. Hey, they were working on Emerald, Fire Red, and Leaf Green at almost the same time, and no handheld has ever had less than five iterations of the classic formula. It's no guarantee obviously, but I'm confident more will follow Platinum, and a return to Johto is a likely candidate.
  21. Shooting fish in a barrel, friend, fish in a barrel.
  22. These aren't chiptunes from a game, but I love Anamanaguchi's Power Supply, which mixes instruments with NSF style chiptunes. You can find Power Supply here: http://www.8bitpeoples.com/discography/by/anamanaguchi And really, the entire 8bitpeoples site has some awesome stuff on it, including stuff by former OCRemixer Virt.
  23. Only in the actual number of crappy games, but they also came with a large number of great 3rd party games. That was not the case with the Wii. Also, it's already been two years. It's pretty obvious by now that most of the actual effort is going to the other consoles. Also, it's not really accurate to say that the Wii is actually 'dominating' when the PS3 and 360 are hanging right there even with its hardcore gaming mentality. Again, we saw this with the Gamecube before, so why is this any surprise? Just because the Wii is much more popular now doesn't mean that it lost its 'family friendly' sticker. Even its core games have gotten massively family friendly (MARIO KART) and that is saying something. I mean it's just like the creator of No More Heroes has said: The Wii is marketed and successfully sold to non-gamers for the large part. The types of the games it has is proof. To me, the Nintendo titles are a holdover for now. But look at the majority of exciting 3rd party games and they are on other consoles. To me, Boom Blox was the one game. If you're into puzzlers, you're going to spend hours upon hours making new levels and experimenting. Otherwise, it may be a tough sell. Which is ironic since the game seems to be catering to non-gamers. Nintendo's big selling point for the Wii is also it's greatest weakness in regards to 3rd party titles. Other companies either put too much or too little thought into motion controls (or an abominable combination of both), and often ignore the fact that the Wii does have a normal controller. A good example of this ignorance is in two specific titles, the Metal Slug Anthology and Godzilla Unleashed, both of which only support the nunchuck on the Wii, but have a different version of the game on another system with a normal controller. At what point did the obvious notion of taking, say, the Dualshock 2 control scheme and mapping it to the classic controller slip their minds? The only difference between the two is the analog sticks doubling as a button, that's it. I love the Wii and what the motion sensing controllers are capable of, but in alot of cases, the game would be worlds better with the classic or a cube controller. Sadly, only Nintendo seems to have that figured out.
  24. It is a pretty bad dub, but to be fair, I think it's also a pretty old dub. The only English version of the original Mobile Suit Gundam that I am aware of are the three compilation movies that Bandai brought over. Those dubs are at least ten years old, and Gundam wasn't high on the totem pole. That's not saying all older dubs suck, but as a whole they've come quite a long way.
