Should I buy a used Ibanez RGT42DXWH @ $630?
DusK replied to Dafydd's topic in Music Composition & Production
If that be the case, it might have been better if you had gone hardtail. No dealing with string locks, easier to mess with the action, ect., ect. -
A Realm Reborn: Final Fantasy XIV Online
DusK replied to Malaki-LEGEND.sys's topic in General Discussion
If the account setup is anything like FFXI, I won't even bother. I play MMO's in spurts, and I don't feel like running out, buying another copy, and starting over just because I wanted to stop playing for a couple of months. -
Dale North's Rena is indeed an awesome track.

Raptr releases instant messaging and game tracking client for gamers
DusK replied to richter's topic in General Discussion
I didn't find too much use for Raptr, being an Xfire user and all. -
Fruity Loops 8 and Home Recording Equipment?
DusK replied to dtmozi's topic in Music Composition & Production
I use a Line 6 TonePort, which is an ASIO device on its own, much like an external soundcard. As such, I don't even use ASIO4ALL while recording. If a M-Audio Fast Track is anything like a TonePort, it'll also be be treated as an external ASIO sound device. I've never been fond of recording on laptops. I get a lot of pops and clicks when messing with the DAW, and I always have to set the buffers really low to get rid of said pops and clicks while recording. Something I never have to deal with on my desktop. Though, I might be doing something wrong. I don't even know what a guitar "lead" is. I just use a normal guitar cable. Whatever I'm using in my band at the time. I use a Shure SM58 for recording vocals. It's no condenser mic, but it's cheaper, and it gets the job done. Good built-in pop filter, too. I recommend it if you're on a budget. My recording space has never been set up acoustically, but it doesn't seem to impact sound quality too much. -
Why is FL not popular?! I thought it was good!
DusK replied to PROTO·DOME's topic in Music Composition & Production
I can see a window problem if you like to keep everything open. Sometimes it can get a little tricky with my single-monitor setup. But I usually just close windows when I'm done with them, considering they can just be re-opened and brought to the front with a click or two. -

I don't like this thought. No, sir. And I don't like the thought of having to learn how to use another DAW to do what was so easy in FL. -
Probably.

New Music Creation Software: Need advice
DusK replied to wowie's topic in Music Composition & Production
Given your current situation, you probably won't be getting FL Studio. If you have an unlimited budget and are willing to spend a lot of time learning the program, you'll want something a lot... better. Unfortunately, I've never used anything other than FL Studio, so I'll let some of the other music vets floating around the forum tell you about other programs. -
I wish they would've had an achievement system when I got every single piece of treasure in Spyro for PSOne. Nobody believes me.

Whammy bars and guitars getting out of tune
DusK replied to Dafydd's topic in Music Composition & Production
String locks help. They help a lot on my friend's Schecter Damien, anyway. -
Whenever I look at a sunset, I wanna play Ecco 2. I wonder why this kinda stuff happens?

I just messed around in it. The more I create with it, the more I learn about the application, so I pump out tracks like crazy. That being said, music is very easy to learn by doing. I didn't need a teacher to teach me what I know about music theory; I just did research as I wrote. Everyone learns differently, though. My advice is to just mess around with the program and try to make some stuff you think sounds nifty. Learning an additional instrument (keyboard immediately comes to mind, but I prefer guitar) will help a lot with the music creation process; Many of my orchestral pieces start as guitar riffs. Taking lessons for an instrument you think you'd like can speed up the process quite a bit. There are tutorials floating around this forum, and basic lessons for instruments are usually a Google search away. Just keep at it. Keep writing, keep studying. You keep doing all that, you'll feel out your music style and learn stuff about music along the way. Good luck, and here's to hoping everything pays off for ya!

It's never one specific game. But it's usually a Genesis game.
-
Fixed that for ya.
-
I couldn't get into that game. I dunno what was wrong with it, but it didn't have that same feel the first two had. I don't remember it being particular hard, though. What I played of it, anyway.

One of my favorite mixers! Happy birthday, man.

Oh, God. TMNT for NES was brutal. I still play it every now and then and it's ridiculous.
-
Congrats on the marriage. And congrats in advance for the musical genius(es) you two will probably produce.

It could've been interpreted both ways considering where you put it.

So, are casual gamers people who do play WoW but don't take it seriously, or are casual gamers what people who play WoW but don't take it seriously call people who are too busy being not terrible people?
-
Even WoW can be played casually. Many would argue that playing it casually would be a waste of 15$ a month, though.
-
My definition of casual gaming is someone that very rarely finds time to play games, takes little or no pride in their gaming skill, and lacks knowledge of gaming in general. The guy who plays Mario every now and then, just because it's fun. I think the Wii itself was built for the casual gamer. On top of that, I think pretty much every system 5th gen and down were built for casual gaming, save for maybe a few titles. I don't see casual games as a bad thing. I think the worst thing that's happening to the industry is developers are taking certain games/genres and dropping the difficulty so the casual gamer can feel pro. I think one of the best examples of this would be the Halo series and the FPS genre. Before Halo, we had UT. And Before that, we had Quake. I never played a Quake game, but I played a lot of UT, and it was always apparent who was good; Who had the faster reflexes, the best aim, and an all-around good knowledge of the game. Fast-forward to Halo 2, where kids are thinking they're "ub3r-1337" because they can swipe snipe and get a headshot, even though the bullet missed by 3+ feet. The skill gap between the newbie and the experienced is all but completely absent in those kinds of games.

Sounds like graphical artifacts from your card. If you got a 7900 GT, I'm guessing you've had it for a good while? Maybe it's running hot? Did you OC it? If you have integrated video, pop out your card and try running integrated instead. See if the artifacts still happen. If you still get 'em, yell "fuck me" real loud and call some tech in India. If they don't, pop your video card in and try different drivers. About all the advice I can give besides shelling out for a new video card.
