  1. I did a bit more research on the Clarinet and it seems that it may have been a model made in Germany somewhere in the 40s or early 50s. It's one of the Evette and Schaeffer models and it's probably a student model. Apparently the E&S Buffet instruments are really hard to date.
  2. I still need to pick up more stuff or my Saturn. One of these days I'll hit Starland for some of that stuff. You need to get Fighters Megamix!
  3. I do both Mic'd and with a DI if I'm not feeling lazy. Often, though, I just go direct into a little tube amp and Podfarm takes care of the rest. Sometimes I will just run it through my bass amp (GK Backline 210) and record the DI out of that. Whatever works.
  4. Oh, I'm not looking to part with it right now. Right now I'm only estimated how old it is. I've had a lot of trouble find much information about it via Buffet themselves. The serial number that's on the clarinet doesn't exactly match any thing they have listed on their site. I really need to have someone who knows more about them to look at it. I've had it since I was eight years old (1982). From what I remember, the woman my mother bought it from said it was in her attic for 30-40 years. I have no idea who the original owner was. I'd really love to know how much the thing is worth.
  5. I personally would only buy something if it was needed for portable needs. There are really only a few hardware emulators that are really worth owning, IMHO. Those would be either something for Nord or Access. Actually, there is one little synth that I've had some time with and felt that it was quite nice. That was the Novation Xiosynth. For the most part, you can achieve what you need with software. If you're going to buy a hardware synth, you're better off putting your money into something that's analog.
  6. Oddly enough, my SM57 is the mic I always have set up at my desk if I want to do something quick. While it's not the best mic for every situation, you can do quite a bit with it.
  7. Here's the full list of what I have but I'll post some pics of the more interesting stuff: This is a Remo Bodhran. I don't use this guy enough. This accordion is pretty old. It's one that I inherited from my grandfather a very long time ago. While it's a wee bit out of tune, it still plays. This is the first instrument I ever played. It's a Buffet clarinet and it's VERY old. I estimate that it's about 75 years old or so. It needs some work done on it to get it back to playing condition but it's still functional. This is my 82 Les Paul Custom that I inherited from my uncle. It's quite the heavy beast.
  8. I'm kind of the same way. Sure, I have a lot of gear from the big companies but I will choose a smaller one when they have something good and affordable. I find out about a lot of them from reading Tape-op.
  9. Check out some of the stuff from Kel Audio. They're a smaller company but they make some nice stuff. I was lucky enough to get the their first mic, the HM-1, when they first came out. It was only $89 then but it's $179 now. I use the HM-1 on a lot of stuff. Studio Projects also makes some great mics for the price. The B1 is a great all around condensor but I tend to use it more with female vocals or if I want to capture more nuances than the HM-1 gets. Karma Mics is another small company that I've purchased some stuff from. I have a pair of their tiny (and cheap) bullet mics that are really awesome. I believe their other stuff is supposed to be decent as well. Other than that, anything but Sure or Blue is a good way to go if you find something that fits into your budget.
  10. Messiah seems to import a variety of formats. So, it seems you should be able to easily use Blender as your modeler and Messiah for rigging/animation.
  11. I had an old pair of M-audio monitors until this past summer. I can't remember the model but they were one of the first 5in monitors that they made. I upgraded to a pair of KRK Rokit 6's which are $200 each. With the KRKs, I finally started hearing more of the low end in my mixes and I had a lot easier of a time fixing problems with things getting muddy. Unless you have a well set up room, I do not recommend getting a subwoofer for mixing. They can overhype the low end and make things even more difficult for you. The KRK Rokit 6's are ported in the front and that helps out with the low end quite a bit. The BX5a's are ported in the back which throws a good bit of the low in right into the wall (if your desk is up against a wall).
  12. Everything I get usually fairly cheap or something I really want. I'm a bargain hunter. Even with new stuff, I won't buy it new unless it's something I really like. With the older stuff, I stick to my favorite stores like Starland and I get a few things here and there off Craigslist. I'm Emperor Charlemagne, though. I generally don't spend more than $50 at a time for older console stuff. Hell, part of the fun for me is finding these things as the cheapo prices.
  13. While Kate isn't on OCR, here's a picture of us. We've been married five years now.
  14. This is the desk: http://www.guitarcenter.com/Studio-RTA-Creation-Station-Studio-Desk-102924578-i1152461.gc I've had it about three years now and so far it's worked out rather well. Be careful if you try moving it around on carpet with all your gear on the desk. I did that and one of the wheels broke right off when it got stuck on a piece of the rug. It wasn't a big deal, though. I was able to just drill some new holes and put it right back on. Now I just leave the desk where it is.
  15. The only Moog stuff that Guitar Center ever seems to have out is the Little Phatty synth. I think nearly the rest of the Moog gear you can get through them is by special order only or through their website.
  16. With the way Record works, it just made sense since each channel strip is pretty long. It only starts getting cumbersome when I go over 12 tracks. Having a surface controller does help for that, though.
  17. Look for a Moog dealer in your area that's not a Guitar Center. I've never seen them have a demo out. http://www.moogmusic.com/dealers/
  18. Nice and solid with a great gradual build up. The flute and guitar really work well together and play off each other nicely. I would have loved to hear a couple accented notes in the upper register on the flute, though. Great stuff!
  19. Well, Shaggy comes from my love of Scooby Doo. It was my favorite cartoon when I was a kid. My mother used to scold me back then about my posture and said that I'd look like Shaggy if I didn't straighten up. I told a friend of mine that story when I was in one of my first bands and everyone just started calling me Shaggy. The name stuck from there on out. There are certain friends of mine who refuse to call me by my real name and I'm alright with that.
  20. If you do a search on google, you'll find a ton of people with DS Lites who have a broken right hinge. It's a stress fracture from them making the hinge have such a tight fit. People speculate that is why the DSi has a loose feel to it in comparison. I'm actually pretty damn careful with my handheld systems. If I travel with them, they are in a case if I'm not playing them. My PSP has one of those wrap around cases since I managed to get a slight scratch on the screen right after I got it. Luckily those scratches can be taken out. Being the OCD person that I am, I couldn't deal with it being there.
  21. So far the only one to fail on me is my old DS lite. One of the hinges cracked which seems to happen to a lot of people. I think the oldest Gameboy that we have working in this house is a GB Pocket which still works great.
  22. Oh, the Mopho is there. It's just in a different spot now. It's sitting next to the Slim Phatty. I can play the accordion a little. It was a gift from my grandfather when I was a kid. I never took lessons or anything like that.
  23. Since I haven't posted here in a while, I thought I'd throw up some new pics of what things look like now.
  24. If I can find a BVH file that has the motions for it, I can certainly go that route. I could also do the sort of thing I did for Hawk over at Applegeeks: ...I should have totally put Stevo in a fireman's hat.
