Smooth.... nah man, it's a Ford It's not the best car for handling or smooth rides or whatever, but it's got some get-up and go, and it's a convertible, which is great when the weather allows it. V8 though... with gas prices the way they are, it's rough

Pretzel wagon w/ stickers. These are, incidentally, the first bumper stickers I've applied to a car I actually cared about

I guess my point is... please don't use the same password at backloggery as you do here. Actually, I'd recommend using a completely unique password there. Anonymously run sites like that give me a bad vibe, esp. since the Dragon Army incident. -

I've always wanted a Kurzweil K2x series, and the 2661 is the latest and greatest... I hear Kurzweil himself rejoined the company for something big... hopefully not just the PC3... I'd love to see a K3000 come out... -

http://www.play-asia.com/SOap-23-83-a9bo-71-na-49-en-84-j-70-2llo.html Play-Asia's got it for seemingly much cheaper than Amazon; above link supports OCR when you buy it through them. I haven't heard it yet, but I & II were fantastic... -
Pre-order Here & Help Support OC ReMix! Since Jimmy started his support thread, I though I'd just mention that since many of you, myself included, are planning on buying this game, if you do so using the above link, through Amazon, you help us out in the process! Thanks, -djp

To clarify about my comment on Sci-Fi's miniseries: watch some of the scenes where it's pretty obvious that they're using a blue screen or green screen, and pay attention to light sources: No matter where they are - on a balcony overlooking a city, in the middle of the desert at high noon, etc. - there's always a really strong, white light coming from directly behind them. It's almost like the lighting in Super Mario Galaxy, only where it works for Nintendo (and makes sense to a certain extent, since Mario's floating around in outerspace, surrounded by stars), for Sci-Fi it seems more like someone forget to study directional lighting in film class or what not. It makes me very angry. As a side note, I DID like the soundtrack to Children of Dune... especially "Inama Mushif"

I like simplicity when it comes to logos, and these bumper stickers are of our logo, basically. Save the OBX-style oval, which is plain because it's emulating that specific look. Shoot me some ideas sometime if you're interested - I like having straightforward, official stickers like these, but a couple variants might be welcome, since the sunk cost is less risky than with shirts. Also, however: color = more expensive. Thanks for the support, everybody!

Paypal, djpretzel@ocremix.org... link on bottom of sidebar. We'll probably be bringing on a new judge or two based on current panelist availability. This may help. Also, we'll pick back up with posting once we get past 1700, since we need to coordinate a torrent update with aubrey.

I swear I didn't prompt Jimmy to do this, but his timing couldn't have been better. Hopefully you noticed the bumper sticker announcement, which is another way you can help us out. I've gotten some questions lately about hosting costs vs. ads, etc., and it breaks down something like this: Costs: dedicated server: $274 a month two additional mirrors: $25 a month misc. additional costs: $0-15 a month Total: About $300 a month. What that doesn't convey is that if we only break even, we can never do things like shirts, stickers, promotional copies of VotL, etc. Also, lately, Google ads have taken a huge hit, and we're actually not even breaking even with them. When you add in Zzounds and Amazon, both excellent retailers we affiliate with through our store, we end up breaking even, but those fluctuate a lot, and Google ads continue to decline. Bottom line is that, at the worst time possible - when I'm trying to do tons of development to improve the site - I'm having to worry about supporting it as well. Frustrating combination, because I'd much rather be adding features and content than more ads. In addition to anything else you can do for OCR, please consider shopping through our Amazon store for games, systems, books, music, etc., or through Zzounds when buying music software and instruments. Every little bit helps! Thanks, - djp

I know I'm in the extreme minority, but I prefer David Lynch's original film to the Sci-Fi miniseries, which had horrendous acting and (call me crazy, but it really bothered me) amazingly bad lighting. Lynch's film has all manner of faults, sure, but it's also really unique in its use of multiple first-person narration, esp. in a sci-fi context. Plus... it had Sting: I WILL KILL HIM!!!!111!! Dune without Sting shouting and Captain Picard running around carrying a pug just isn't the same for me...

What's interesting is that we're only hearing about this now, and from a development perspective, 7 isn't all that far away... if they're really going to throw the baby out with the bathwater and start from a clean slate designing what amounts to a new OS, you'd think they'd want more time... unless they've been working with this idea in mind for far longer than we know. Hopefully 7 will ONLY run x64. If you're gonna start all over again, don't create the same schism between architectures. It'd be really nice to see 64-bit become defacto, as I believe mobo's that support far more RAM would become commonplace. Which is especially good for running large sample libraries.

There may not be a social contract, but there's an actual contract, usually in the form of a EULA or Terms of Use or whatever... My thoughts are that this can cut both ways - you can have abusive players who cheat solely to further their interests or intend specifically to disrupt the game just for the sake of doing so, but you've also got modders, machinimators, etc. doing things with games and game content that are creative and productive instead of destructive and abusive. It's contextual, and I'd hope that more companies start seeing it that way and selectively prosecuting violations of their EULA only against the first type of user and not the second...

http://www.starcraft2.com/features/terran/taurenmarine.xml Non-sequitir: What an odd website! They're serving straight XML and relying on browsers to do the transformation, which is all well and good, but the XML has basically zero useful information in it, and all of the content is instead in the XSL. This is basically an inversion of the intended usage of either format/schema... XML is designed to convey information, XSL is designed to transform it. FYI, OCR uses both, only our XML actually has stuff in it, and we do the XSLT transformation server-side. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <?xml-stylesheet type="text/xsl" href="/layout/terran-taurenmarine.xsl"?> <page lang="en_us"> <terran> <unit/> </terran> </page>
