OCR01448 - *YES* Final Fantasy Mystic Quest 'And He Returned Home'
djpretzel replied to djpretzel's topic in Judges Decisions
In Niggaz it was contextualized, here it just stands out as being rather odd. And yes, while I perhaps would have smiled, I still would have thought that 'ocremix.org' or any other URL would have sounded out of place. -
OCR01448 - *YES* Final Fantasy Mystic Quest 'And He Returned Home'

Alright, I'm gonna have to agree almost verbatim with Jesse. In fact, had I been more familiar with the original, and had the URL not been in there, this might even have been directly posted. There simply aren't any clashing notes or questionable intonations; it's smooth as butter. If anything, you might criticize it for being TOO smooth, not really bending the limits much, but we're not all Thelonius Monk and this was appropriate for the genre. I think a mix of this nature generally needs to be able to pass through the panel; I'd be uncomfortable saying this was below any threshold we set for the site. It's interpretive & polished, and on headphones at least, I hear no clutter problems or anything of that ilk. My one caveat is that the URL pimping is just plain weak. It doesn't integrate well at all, it sounds totally out of place, and it comes off like... well... an advertisement. I get that the lo-fi sound switch is similar to a radio effect, and this could be thought of as an ad, but... it just doesn't work. I'm not proposing a blanket policy of rejecting ALL mixes that pimp URLs, as in a rap or with more context it could *possibly* work, but here I think it's just blemishing a really strong piece from DiggiDis. In summation: 1. I think we need to be a little more careful about observations on clashing/incorrect notes. I've said that before, and I'll say it again. Now, if it just 'sounds off to you', that's fine... but if no one else is hearing it BUT you, I think revising a vote on technical grounds is justified. 2. I'm pretty sure this is above both the arrangement and production thresholds set for OCR. We've raised the bar pretty high, but I don't think we've raised it this high, nor do I think we should. 'Tears of Contention' passed easily and garnered rave reviews, but in my mind it's not wildly different from this. 3. Let's see about getting a version without the URL. Honestly, if DD refused to alter his vision, I'd still probably say this should be posted, but I'd like to try, as I think he's doing his own hard work a disservice leaving it in... -

I tried out a couple years ago as DJ Lore. I have grown since then. I am submitting a new kind of remix. I have seen some songs on the site that are with vocals and lyrics. I decided to make a song for Dragon Warrior. The lyrics are written based on the game, and I used the Overworld Theme for the background. I hope you all enjoy. Contact Info ReMixer Name: Joshua Lore Real Name: Joshua Lore Email: LoKiMageZ@aol.com Website: http://www.shatteredmystics.org ReMix Info Game Name: Dragon Warrior Game Song: Overworld Theme ReMix Title: The Warrior OC ReMix ReMix Year: 2006 Game Publisher: Enix Original Composer: Koichi Sugiyama Platform: Nintendo (NES) Any other information should be on the ID3v2 Tag on the mp3. If you need any more information on the song, let me know. You can get the song off my website here. It is an open folder with only that file inside. If you have any problems, please feel free to contact me at the above email. Lyrics With my strength I will get to that kingdom again Where they wait For the world to be free Traveling for ages Around this world Many harships seen by My shield and sword People are in danger And misery So I left my kingdom So I can set them free I can't return To the places of my past So the items that are with me They need to last Don't know where I'm headed No hints are seen But I'll rid them all of evil For eternity With my strength I will get to that kingdom again Where they wait For the world to be free With my blade All the evil will be at an end I'll bring hope For the whole world to see After all my travels I'm weak and torn All of the evil It has been scorn But I'm too weak now To return home But still I'm trying Doing this alone I have to get there So I can tell All in the kingdom That the evil fell My strength is fading But still I try I have to get there Before I die With my strength I will get to that kingdom again Where they wait For the world to be free With my blade All the evil is now at an end I saved hope For the whole world to see With my grief I will try just to see all my friends They all wait For my face to be seen If I fail To return now that I'm at the end Let their fear Finally be set free

Hello. Evil Horde here. Punch Out´s music has haunted my mind since childhood so I thought I´d finally remix it. Completed in only few weeks, the remix bears the title "Punch Out, Kick In". My remix uses two of the awesome themes; mostly the training theme (or as some call it, "Nigga stole my bike" theme) and the other popular theme. Not sure what it is but I guess its the fight/ringtheme. The idea behind it all is to convert the awesomeness of the game into an 80´s heavy metal adrenaline rush. So the tempo is way up as is the energy level. It has three guitar solos and a synth lead solo and they´re all recorded as single takes to maintain the 80´s feel. So there might be a few "slips" in there but thats the rock´n´roll spirit. Everything is played by me, and everything is PLAYED, except the drums. Info Title: "Punch Out, Kick In" Artist: "Evil Horde" And here we go : Thank you, Evil Horde

Pretty simple compositionally, as it was arranged more with the ambience and soundscape in mind. Probably best enjoyed late at night. THE LINK: REMOVED TO PROTECT THE INNOCENT

LT Edit - Original Decision: http://www.ocremix.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=53396 1st RESUB Decision: http://www.ocremix.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=69646 Link: Contact Info Your ReMixer name: Abadoss Your real name: Kenneth Edward Keyn Your email address: Abadoss@yahoo.com Your website: http://www.warnerpacific.edu/personal/kkeyn/ Your userid (number, not name) on our forums: 2642 ReMix Info Name of game(s) ReMixed: Chrono Trigger Name of individual song(s) ReMixed: The Brink of Time, Guardia Millennial Fair Additional information: I started remixing this piece in February 2004, using Finale 2003. During that time, I sought the help of Jeremy Robson, who, after hearing his Philharmonic Suite: Part I, I hoped would be able to master what I had started, since Finale's only output is MIDI. However, when I showed him, what I thought to be, my finished piece, he critiqued it and handed it back saying that I could still improve it. So, I went back, fixed what he said was wrong and tried again... and again, and again, etc. Nearly two years later, through the music department on campus, I gained access to Finale 2006 equiped with Garritan Personal Orchestra. Through much reworking in instrumentation, expression, dynamics, and stereo positioning, - I'm, once again, hoping this is the last time I say this - I feel I have a finished piece. However, if it weren't for the gracious consultation of Mr. Robson, I wouldn't have a complete piece. He kept challenging me to go back and make it better. Hopefully, it's at a level worth listening to. I chose "The Brink of Time" pretty much on a whim. I went over to vgmusic.com and picked out several MIDIs that I thought I might like to remix and that was one of them. However, I felt that I needed a little bit more, so I decided to couple it with a theme that I'd been wanting to do for a long time, "Guardia Millennial Fair". About six months in, I started hearing "Zelda's Lullaby" from The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time in part of the cello line, so I tried to accent that a little and, later on, I gave it to the oboe, which quotes it in the second repeat of the initial A section. Speaking of sections, this entire piece fits under the form of Compound Ternary (|:A:|:B:|:A'). I originally considered it a Rondo (A|B|A'|B'|C|A"), since it had three statements of what I had first considered the A section, or a Sonata (|:A:|BA'), since my original ideas of the A and B sections fit better as the two themes of the Exposition (A) and C worked as the Development (, with the A' being the Recapitulation. However, as Ilook at it now, the theme of the Development ( actually repeats before going to the Recapitulation (A'), which makes it more practical to consider the piece in a Ternary form. The Compound end of it comes from the fact that each of the sections can be broken down intosmaller forms (A = AB|A'B' / B = CC'|D / A' = A"A"). The piece was written in Finale 2003 and mastered in Finale 2006 (with Garritan Personal Orchestra).

Hey Dave, This one's a remix from Lufia and the Fortress of Doom. It covers Fear and Courage and throws a little bit of the Fortress of Doom theme in there as well. Remixer: Darangen Name: Michael Boyd Email: darangen@hotmail.com Website: www.darangen.com URL: Game: Lufia and the Fortress of Doom Song/s: Fear and Courage, Fortress of Doom Info: I've played with these themes for what seems like a thousand times already, but the originals still hit home with me no matter how many times I've listened to them. Plus I've always wanted to get a Lufia mix up on OCR This isn't really a hard-rock arrangement, even though it has some grungy guitar-work. I don't really know what to classify it as, it's just music. Hope you like it.

Hi, My name is Kiefo. In the past year I've made a dozen or so video game remixes, I have only just recently learned about the massive video game remixing community online and I wanted to try my hand at submitting one of my remixes. Forgive me if I mishandled a process, I think everything is in order, So here is the link to my remix of "New Junk City" from "Earthworm Jim" Tentatively retitled "New Funk City!": My Remixer name is Wrao. The original composer is(I think) Tommy Tallarico. I created this entirely from scratch and made some alterations. Cheers, -k

Hello, I (artist name: MSL; real name: Michael Scott Levi) have recently just discovered your site and I want to help contribute to this website by adding a recently done remix of Mario Kart 64's Rainbow Road. I have ID3 tagged the song by a program called mp3Tag Version 4.96. I hope the way I ID3 tagged is perfectly eligible for entry. The song named, "Racing on the Rainbow Road" can be downloaded at This one is a remix that you can probably dance to. It's more of a techno/trance remix. It has some trancy synths, piano, guitars (for that oomph) and during the break some atmospheric pads and of course the beat. Strangely, the beginning of this track pretty much sounds nothing like Rainbow Road. It's more like an intro to the intro of Rainbow Road. This started out to be an original work until I realized I can make a Rainbow Road remix out of this, and so I did, which is why it starts out like that really. ---------------------------------------------Musical Background------------------------------------------------------ If info about my musical background is necessary then this will be the following... I've started off using eJay programs like many other artists I know around 2003. In June of 2005, I had received the wonder of the program named "FL Studio 4", earlier known as Fruityloops. Since then I've been making original tunes, one complete CD named "Reminiscing the Future" (which is an 11 song CD). I'm working on my next CD which has 3 songs complete and now I'm also dwelling in the remixing area, when I discovered your site. I thought I would contribute to your site by adding my remix of one of my favorite video game pieces out there from Rainbow Road, but of course you already know that lol. ----------------------------------------------------Final Words---------------------------------------------------------- I hope to be a great asset to your website and also hope you like my remix of such a classic song! http://www.myspace.com/mslremixed

I've attached my remix and the original; sorry, I don't have a link. This is the second remix I've done, the first I'd submitted for a Dragon Roost Island remix on the Wind Waker soundtrack but lost all the data for that song because of a hard drive faliure, so I couldnt work on it and resubmit. I hope you like this one, thanks!

email sub file The Opus - Bird Of Death.mp3 My name is Chet Ellington, my mixer name is "The Opus" and my e-mail is amish_ninja2000@yahoo.com and my mix info is as follows Game: Battletoads Original Composer: Dave Wise Comments: this is my first remix to this site and I am hoping to get this song submitted but i thought i would use this perticular song because i have always loved this song from the actual game, I would usually listen to it until the game finally continued without me. I felt like the song needed a somewhat more dark sound to it and I also thought that it needed some harder rock-ish type drums. I look forward to being judged and I hope you enjoy my mix!

Hello there and Merry Christmas! It's been a while since my last remix around here, fortunately I found time and inspiriation to finally complete a new one - this time of an uncovered system and game: The Sims 2 for Nintendo DS. The overall music of this game is pretty neat although not outstanding except for the rat-cave music - I've only listened to it once and started sequencing it to a MIDI The mix also is my first serious work I made with Reason - I luv it! Again, the overall music on Sims 2 is not outstanding and there are some parts in the Rat-Man track that aren't either: It's theme is a bit random, but I decided to use it in my remix (starting around 0'56) to keep the overall mood of the original. I also wanted it to sound more like Danny Elfman's Batman theme - the "hero"-appeal was desperately missing in the original. I added stings and french horns to make it feel like a theme of a sinister and strange rat-man character; tremolo celli with very wet reverb and fast electronic percussion right in the beginning symbolizing the rats. There's a part with spoken lyrics taken from a very old movie - the one who finds out which one it was gets a pat and a peanut and may consider herself/himself a hero the lyrics are in the unsyced lyrics id3-tag, btw. If you find the time to update my artist picture with this one http://www.culita.org/philipp/misc/texx.jpg I would be very grateful, too!
