  1. according to my quackalaculations i've waited the specific time between submits. nice to see you guys again. got some light hiphop here for ya. paperboy remix. source tune can be found here: http://www.mythrilnazgul.com/Paperboy%20(subtune%202).sid yeah, so i only used the first part of the source. sue me. anyways, i got some great reviews of this over at vgmix and kwed - it's a track i finished up during the last hectic days of pre doom project. at first i was attempting to go for a kraftwerkish sounding approach with some 'old school' sounds and minimal instruments - however, afterwards, I decided to rap over it. i think it turned out pretty well. people seem to love the vocoded robot, so that's cool too. hopefully, people won't mistakenly think i'm white this time. hope this passes guidelines - i've talked with a few judges who tell me it probably does, but if you guys decide that it doesnt, sorry about that. my bad. if this does get accepted, i'll provide the lyrics. lataz. -navid www.mythrilnazgul.com

Please forgive me if I am submitting such a noobish formatish email. I am just trying to follow the exact specifications for submissions. I've also tried to follow the ID3v2 specifications but I think I missed some. The title of the song is "Iron Plate (Bare Knuckle Expander Mix)". Anyway... I've been trying to make songs (house and/or trance) since 2004. I've been downloading video game music mixes since uh... remixes.overclocked.com? 2000? But yeah, it was only in 2004 that I attempted creating music. I am a trance lover and I basically did this "Expander" mix in hard trance style. This mix was basically made with premium love for the Bare Knuckle 2 game and my beloved sport, Wushu (formerly and more popularly known as Kung Fu). I tried to create a track that would pump me up during a "routine" or "form", video game music style. I hope you like it. I'll be looking forward to the judges' decision. Thank you. The actual 6MB file can be found at The original file is in pure 192kbps bitrate. 9. Just some wrap-up comments: the reason I think strongly likening any of Harmony's music to any of Morse's is questionable isn't because I don't like Morse's stuff (I do, a lot, which should be clear) or that I think it's mechanical, but rather simply because I think they are fundamentally different. Thanks to joecam for clearing up the "impersonation" bit; perhaps I read people's words too closely at times.
  10. That's called an homage. Wrong in both cases; "Force Majeure" is a legal term, in French, for "act of god". In this case, whoever 409 are simply used the exact phrase - not very creative, but fine by me. I didn't know of their track when I suggested the name to Dan, but they hardly have ownership over using it for music, as I'd imagine it's been done before by someone. The translation is something like "Majestic Force" or "Greater Force", so my idea was to simply to make it "Triforce" instead, as the song itself is rather majestic, and certainly great. The legal concept of Force Majeure is described at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Force_majeure.

  12. For future reference, it's simply my observation that nothing draws people out of the woodwork from other game mixing sites as much as a piece being praised extensively, especially if it's not related in some way to one of their own members or someone they're chummy with. It's like clockwork, and I would have anticipated it had someone asked me. The clear trend from certain individuals seems to be to only review when something is being commended, and to curtly contradict such acclaim, usually with as little tact as possible. That I couldn't *tell* whether Mustin's 97/3 ratio was hyperbole or not should really SAY something; I'm glad he's clarified that it was, but the point of my post was that, regardless of the actuality, there's certainly the appearance of being "in league", voting as a block, and only visiting OCR's review forum collectively to put something down. I don't feel like I'm synthesizing here, or pulling trends and observations out of thin air. I'd be really surprised if deep down no one in question knew what I was talking about. In either case, when I talk about being open and promoting unity, and walking the walk, I'm talking about not posting ambiguously sarcastic hyperboles as one's only review in X number of weeks. Your follow-up post was candid and direct - why not, next time, skip the one-liners and curt comments that could easily be interpreted literally, and jump straight to the honest feedback? Save us all some time? Zing people in your mind, or on your own forums, but give artists some legitimate feedback here, one way or the other, instead of exaggerated sarcasm directed towards OCR? I think that's a fairly transparent request, which anyone who was truly interested in better intersite relations would have no problem filling. As for joecam and his "FUCKING THOUGHT" - you can say "This sounds like Joshua Morse only not as good" ALL YOU WANT. Have at it. I'd still think it was musically inaccurate to the Nth degree, but it'd be, as you state, your thought. However, when you call someone's mix a "Joshua Morse impersonation", that's a little bit different. It implies that Harmony was actively modeling his arrangement on Morse's - that there was mimicry or even plagiarism involved. This, of course, YOU don't know. It's terrible word choice if all you wanted to say was that the piece resembled Morse's stuff but was not as good, because it says more than that. Coming from someone who has professed directly to me a wish to get people to come together and cooperate more, you're either choosing your words very poorly, or you did in fact mean to suggest that Brandon was consciously copying Josh. In either case, that's not going to be conducive to a goal of cooperation.
  13. That's an insult to both Joshua Morse and myself. Yeah, I find some of these comments a little disturbing, because, without going into too much detail, it seems a certain group of people are intent on weighing in as a block, with very little dissent amongst their ranks. The best way to avoid the appearance of being Borg-like, cliqueish, and insecure is to ensure that group opinions don't seem consistently... organized. If people are truly about spreading "unity" and "neutrality", they should endeavour not to appear to offer up their opinion only in certain very selective contexts, simultaneously, and with the overall appearance of acting as the collective mouth of external entities. I'm all about giving people the benefit of the doubt, but sometimes things are just too conspicuous to avoid commenting on... or laughing at. Which is not to say the piece is perfect, but... claiming that it's 97% original and 3% source, or a poor imitation of Joshua Morse... these are claims that involve hyperbole (one hopes) and unnecessary external comparisons. Some of these same individuals are often rambling on about bringing the community together and unifying people - it's time to put up or shut up, walk the walk and not just talk the talk, and make a little EFFORT, otherwise such intentions come off as mere lip service... If this is only 3% source, I failed Math and can't count. If this resembles a Joshua Morse piece, I either haven't heard it yet, or have so much wax in my ears it's amazing I'm not entirely deaf. Partisan, partisan, partisan. As for the Flammie bit - it appears the lyrics as posted are incomplete, as they don't include these lines. Can someone, preferably Brandon, send me an updated version?
  14. Sometimes I pet and stroke my Flammie, and it responds vigorously and enthusiastically to this affection ... I didn't notice it until you pointed it out, but I'll agree that written down it's a little iffy. However, when sung, esp. by Brandon, I skip right over it without batting an eyelash.

  18. Yeah, aight. This is what I would call the minimum passing level of arrangement; I'm glad half the panel called it like they saw it, and indeed, for such a well known song, it would have been preferable to pair such admirable production and technique up with a more creative interpretation. However, our evaluative system is supposed to be equal parts production and arrangement, and we've passed mixes with excellent arrangement and marginal production. I'd consider this the inverse. Is the arrangement really "marginal", and should that be good enough? Tough question. The structure is very similar, tempo similar, etc. There's no wild deviation, soloing, or other breakout section to point to as reconciling the similarity. Nevertheless, the underlying rhythm guitar *has* been restructured to work better with an actual guitar, the drums have been rewritten and improved, etc. - it's not a lot, but it's something. Add to that very competent, professional production, and I'd say we have a mix that appeals to half of the spirit of OCR's standards - the sonic half - while doing the bare minimum to keep the arrangement factor from dooming it. It's a tough call, and it sets a precedent for what I would refer to as "Near covers" being accepted, but when the production and instrumentation are spot on, and you can find SOMETHING, in this case a couple somethings, to point to as arrangement, I'd lean personally towards passing. Decisions like these ultimately come down to each judge's barometer of how much arrangement can compensate for production, or vice versa, and similar mixes in the future, depending on the smallest of variables, may not be approved. But in this case, given a potential tie to split, I'll go with the slim majority; I have no major beef with it being on the site, and it's very enjoyable, and thus my vote is Yes
  19. Hi ! I made 2 remixes from Zelda OOT, the first one is a progressive trance mix of the Lost Woods theme. The second one is a punk rock version of the Gerudo Valley theme. I'm new to OC so here is some minimal info about me # Your ReMixer name : Phényx # Your email address : phenyx_music@yahoo.fr # Your website : http://www.phenyx.fr.fm # Your userid : 31527 (that's it ? :/) The songs Saria's Song (trance mix) Progressive trance remix of the Lost Woods theme. Starts progressively (the intro could have been improved), with pad, trance synth and industrial drums, then drops into powerful techno riffs using simple synth leads on which effects are applied progressively. Those riffs goes crescendo until the main part of the song, with pads, trance synth and industrial drums. I resequenced the original song and used this sequence it in the second part of the song. Made with FL Studio. Gerudo Valley (punk remix) This song was at first just a "test" of recording samples from my cousin's a live guitar. I've noticed the chords he played were the ones from Gerudo valley so I made a whole remix from them by adding a synth guitar. I also reused a little (detuned) impro thats fits quite good in the song I keeped some blends from the original song, such as trumpets or spanish-like claps because they really kick ass That's all for the moment Tell me if you want to use my links as a mirror site, I won't delete them Thanx Phényx ___________________________________________________________________________ Appel audio GRATUIT partout dans le monde avec le nouveau Yahoo! 22. original decision - http://www.ocremix.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=64515 Hi! Just a resubmission, made a few small edits. Cheers! /Daniel
  23. This is a resubmission, which was originally judged on October 18, 2004. The original judgment can be seen here: http://www.ocremix.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=47579 Link to the new submission is here: If you want to listen to the previous submission, and an interim beta work we completed, those links are here: Original Submission: Interim Beta: I highly suggest you listen again to the original and the interim beta at least once, to get an idea of all the changes made. Contact Info inanis/dwills (we call ourselves Nintendo Revengo) Joe Strosnider / Dorian Wills inanis@ecr.net / dwills@ecr.net http://www.inanis.net UserID: 19326 ReMix Info Game: Super Mario Brothers Remix Name: Leaded Mario Brothers Comments: Taking into consideration the judges' previous concerns about the mix, we re-worked the song greatly. 1. The core of the song is unchanged. Despite the previous judgement made, we thought the artistic viablity of the core was sound. 2. The bass line was conceived by Joe originally, but he couldn't get it to sound right using samples, so Dorian took Joe's source material and hammered it out on his bass. 3. The drums were competely rewritten, new samples used, new everything. This was to comply with the judges' comment about it's resemblence to "Fruity Loops". 4. Some of the repetition in the lead guitar was removed. 5. A few rhythm guitar surprises and subtle embelishments were added. 6. We wanted to use a professional studio to properly master the song, but time and resources prevented that. If the mix doesn't pass this time through, we may not get "published", so to speak, but we aren't worried about that. We are both glad we got to work on this piece. We spent a year perfecting it, had loads of fun with it, and in the end, it's the fun that it's about, not whether it gets posted (but it's still an ego trip to see your name on the OCRemix front page!). If we don't get through this time, it doesn't matter, because we are moving on to better things. Credits: Conceived by Joe Strosnider Bass Guitar's notes, Percussion, and production by Joe Strosnider. Lead Guitar and Rythym Guitar composed by Dorian Wills. 24. Title: Dance of Aquarius Artist: majeliss Remix of Sonic 2 Aquatic Zone Well, this is a dance piece with some psytrance influences (mostly bassline) and Euro like voices. The remix is pretty basic and follows the generic style of trance/Dance except with more of my favorite PSY-ness. It's suppose to be an Epic piece, though i'm pretty sure the vocals and the ethnic percussion made it epic enough. And if your familiar with the wild pokemon battle theme, you'll noticed the original melody from start to finish. Merry part. -- Kudos
  25. Email sub file Final Bowser HR Mix_0.mp3 Dear Mr. pretzel, Please judge the attached song (sorry I couldn't host it anywhere). My name is Iain Dawson and my ReMixer name is Jhalkompwdr. My website is http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/view.php?id=1086124 (I know, shoot me) and my public email address is thps56@hotmail.com I have spent ages on this, the arrangement was near impossible and NG accepted it nicely, so I thought I'd add an acoustic bit at the end and try and try to shove it up here. On the tagging, it's all correct except the "part of a group" field (which is tagged as OCR*****): how am I to know if/when/in what order it will be published? With lots of hope, Jhalkompwdr. PS. Last time I was totally ignored, I didn't even get a reply. The choon was called Hard Ice and it was an Ice Climber remix.
