  4. AHOY! Greethin. You may be seated. ::In big chalky lettering:: I AM MR.TRENTHIAN Arrr! A'vast ye scurrilous dogs! And listen well! This hear be a submission! Mixing and Performance: Trenthian Engineering: Compyfox Game: Suikoden Song title: Suikoden - Cliff the Great Crusader OCRemix.mp3 Remix Available hear : Original- Warrior's Village (on the ost it is number 6 on the second disc, or available hear for a limited time for the judges : ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Suikoden has some freaking BRILLIANT material... It’s a shame there are so few OCR's of it on the site... with any luck Ill turn that around. I wanted to do a lot of stuff with this mix when I started. I wanted to keep it Celtic, I wanted to put the funk in it... I wanted improvisation. I wanted my bass playing to not suck. I wanted massive orchestral (I have discovered some new instruments since FF7 and Breath of fire.) Well at least I am satisfied with the mix. Because they are AWESOME, I would like the boys at natural studio to get some credit for their work. They supply Ns-kit6, and NS-kit 7, two of the BEST drumkits in sf2 (soundfont) format I have seen that are free. They have some great other sounds, but the studio kits are GREAT "This mix is powered by NS-kit 6" “This mix is also powered by Compyfox” I had great fun making this one, and I am using my recorder talents in a lot of music I am working on right now. FEAR THE UPCOMING! You may disregard ignore the following as it is mostly me rambling about how the mix was made and such. Some notes about the mix. I got a bass guitar for Christmas, even though I'm not Christian... and my sister (whom gave me the bass) is Jewish, go figure. I do not know how to play bass, or even pretend to imagine myself playing something with strings. But at the time, I wanted to do something with it. So, I wrote up a quick little something... and then that fell apart, ... so then I thought! I know lets destroy some ears. Who better than the chaps at OCR? Well yeah, so I took some of the music from my favorite Game on the PSX and well... um... after I was done, I was so embarrassed of the result I went on a many month long quest to try to get the bassline better... to no avail. So hear is the original work, with me playing the bass only two days after I got it. ( I worked on filling out the mix for a few days after I recorded the bass to the rough outline of the mix.) I spent a LOT of time trying to get a "perfect" one take recording of the bass. I have given up... curse my non string playing fingers. Anyways all because of the delay for a false grail instead of submitting this in early Feb (When the version you are about to hear was finished) I'm submitting it in September! In mid-September, I got tired of holding out on submission, so I rolled the track to Compyfox, who did after editing and EQ'ing and all sorts. He would have been able to do so much more with it if I sent him neutral tracks, but he worked some pretty decent magic on the track given that it was just the raw wall of sound that was the whole song. He tamed down the Drums. He also eliminated a few of the spots that had clipping in them, and generally warmed the sound up. You can see what he did in his own Doc hear: http://www.studio-compyfox.de/guestartist/trenthian/Suikoden_Cliff_the_Great_Crusader_OC_ReMix.txt Some other things to listen for. I play recorder! HUZZAH! I’m playing an alto primarily, (including improvised solo around the melody) there is a quick improvised solo on soprano recorder that I later transcribed and mixed the rest of the orchestra playing along with it. Nothing too special. The recorders are all done in one take per recorder, as I do not believe in multiple takes, (that just robs the soul from the music.) While a substantial part of the bass is all done in one take, since I don’t play it... I supplemented it with additional audio takes because I couldn’t keep the clean playing going on for too long. Oh yeah there is also a sopranino recorder playing alongside the soprano solo, for that extra high pitched ear death. (There are other things like square wave happening too... and there is distortion on both recorders...) I wanted to try a lot of new to me things with this mix while I was doing it.
  5. Remixer Name - Wynd Balduram E-mail: Wynd_Balduram@mail.com Website: http://www.nettally.com/johuff Name of Remix: Prophecy Fulfilled Name of game Remixed: Final Fantasy - Mystic Quest Song Remixed: Final Battle Theme Comments - The drums were done in Fruity Loops using downloaded samples. The guitars and bass were recorded using the GNX 3 Guitar Workstation directly into Guitar Tracks 2, and then imported into Fruity Loops and tweaked. So, all the instruments are genuine. The electric guitar tracks were done using a Fender Stratocaster, and the bass track was done using a cheap First Act bass. This is my first attempt at actually mixing something of quality, so it would surprise me if it actually made the archive. --

I immediately started working on an arrangement, and less than a week later this turned out. My thanks to trickwaters for assisting me by resequencing the piece, giving it a believable performance. Patrick: Having seen the popularity of and listened to Kevin's original arrangement of this piece, I wanted to make my own interpretation of his 'etude.' I'm glad he gave me the chance to do this, as this has opened the doors for other collaborations between us.

  8. email sub file Aria di Mezzo Carattere.mp3 - djp Name: Asian Penguin email: tbt204@lehigh.edu web: http://www.mperia.com/artists/thomas_b._trycieki) Song: Aria di Mezzo Carattere Game: Final Fantasy VI This is the conclusion to my month long attempt at remixing my favorite song from the Final Fantasy Games. My idea was originally to make a string quintet version of the song. From that I spent weeks writing out the music. After mixing it, it bored me, so I figured I'll just screw around with it, and this is the result.
  9. You have a submission from a new ReMixer! --- ReMixer name: Rexy Real name: Bev Wooff Email: baroness_praxis@yahoo.co.uk OCRemix user ID: 7528 --- REMIX INFO: Remix title: "A Weekend Down Under" Game covered: Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped Individual song covered: Main Theme ADDITIONAL INFO ON GAME: Original soundtrack composer: Mark Mothersbaugh Companies involved: Sony/Naughty Dog Platform: PlayStation Year of release: 1998 --- Ever since this is my first submission here, I might as well tell a bit about myself. By the time you're judging this, I'll be progressing through my first University semester, studying Music and IT. I live in Great Britain, and - if Destiny isn't enough for you - I'm a female. For the past six years I've been looking into the fundamentals of studio-based music production via my leisure time, and have seen into a wide range of techniques and software involved during that space of time. In terms of instruments, I've been playing the piano for ten years and have studied the drums for the past 24 months or so. And as fate decided, I have a ReMix to submit to you. What I did was put together a more laid-back variation on Crash 3's main theme. The game series itself managed to bring back a lot of strong youthful memories as well as holding some of the most prized games in my PSOne collection. And the remix itself has got a mixture of pop music and more haunting instrumentation, as well as some varying drum progressions, a piano solo and probably the first use of a didgeridoo in a remix, EVER. I understand that you wanted me to fill out the ID3v2 tags onto the ReMix itself, however because of VGMix's tag system I couldn't do that, and I have no other web space of my own. So can you please not penalize me for that? ; And there we have it. Whether you judges want to bring the track onto the play list or totally reject it, I am still happy with how the arrangement managed to come out. I also want to say that you are doing a great job doing what you do, and I'll be happy to see OCRemix continue like this in the future. Peace out, -Rexy-

I wanted to recreate the Rock sounding Boss theme with a minamilistic electronica melody. I then thought the backing strings would go well as a backing for the Sephiroth theme and so I combined them both. _________________________________________________________________ It's fast, it's easy and it's free. 11. Email sub file Unknown Syncopation.mp3 - djp Hi. It's me, Kairon. I belive that several weeks ago I submitted a remix called Unknown Syncopation (remix of Sync from DDR Extreme) but I'm not sure if I got a submission confirmation. In case there was a mix-up, here it is again. P.S. If my mix is not posted, feedback would be wonderful as to why not, to help me improve further mixes.
  12. Definitely unique. Our first Bollywood sub? - djp Yo. So this is now the 4th OCR submission as well as 4th Chrono Cross remix I have done. I'm trying to keep things fresh and learn from criticism, so I obviously feel this is my best song to date. Heavily influenced beats by both my own culture (I'm Indian a la Darkesword and Digital Coma) and Mediterranean music - the latter being mixed into the outro. And here comes my "ass kissing" (as Vig called it)/addressing the judges section: Kong in Concert has just been released. Digital Coma, you rock. Gray Lightening - what can I say - wow - after listening to Idols of Hanuman, I decided to approach my song here with a more ethnic vibe (it originally used a basic drum set), because your songs are always so fresh and unique. Vigilante, as I am writing this I have put your song (no not Funky Monkey Love) on my "To sleep to" playlist, that song is just amazing - although I am nowhere near as good on the guitar, I hope to one day produce as emotionally filled music. Prot, as always, epic stuff out of you on the project, and yes ROTC still rocks as much as ever. Analoq, some really nice laid back vibe on your song, I wish I had your technical know-how, great job man. Darkesword, good luck with your Kirby Project, Mother India smiles upon you and Binnie for all y'all's hard work. And finally, The Wingless, despite not having worked on Kong in Concert nor initiating your very own remix project, you are still my hero. * Contact Info o Your ReMixer name: SirRus o Your real name: Ravi Sharma o Your email address: Ravi.U.Sharma-1@ou.edu * ReMix Info o Name of game(s) ReMixed: Chrono Cross o Name of individual song(s) ReMixed: Star Stealing Girl "Exotic Enchantment" -

  18. So, a while back I was thinking about the troubles of the world and concluded: "The only thing that's missing from everyone's lives is a pop-punk cover of that annoying, bouncy J-pop song from the end of 'NiGHTS Into Dreams.'" Two months and three mixes later, I had a version that sounded less crappy than the others (and handily better than the original, which was sung by a Peabo Bryson imitator and his retarded cousin). By that time, I had naturally realized that my thinking was wrong, and what everyone really needs is that swing version of Gruntilda's Theme from "Banjo-Kazooie" that I promised in the review thread from my first OC remix, but it was too late. The NiGHTS thing was recorded, and at least this time I'm virtually assured that no one will complain about my mop buckets being out of synch. thanks, ch
  19. What did you think? Post your opinion of this ReMix.
  20. Let me echo Binnie's assessment; Makke's amazingly talented. I'm waiting in anticipation, however, for the day he sends something that truly jives with our standards, in which case I'm almost 100% sure it will be posted.
  21. Mmmmm. Interesting. I was almost going to reject this outright, not on quality but standards issues. To me, this is.... a remix of Faith No More's 'Epic'... that has a very small bit of Arkanoid thrown in. Has everyone HEARD Epic by Faith No More? Larry indicates he has, but still approves the mix... I'd have a hard time setting a precedent saying someone can remake, say... any pop tune from the 80's or 90's, thrown in a bit of game music, and call it a ReMix. I respect the artist and the end result, but honestly didn't think anyone would pass it, based on the source material...
