  1. I'm just gonna say yes because everyone else said no. And now I'll justify that "yes" with the following reasons...

It's a complex tapestry of tonal and rhythmic variations that play on the original while remaining true to the tune. I think this is definitely OCR quality, and should be posted without further delay.

    YES

    D

    Bitch 8O

  2. For the first time, after listening to this a bit more, I think I'm gonna have to veto. Obviously, I've not done this in the past and probably won't again for some time (?), but though the arrangement is upbeat I just can't see the overall work as being a yes. It's not a question of whether there are worse songs already on OCR - we need to look ahead more than we do behind, and set a higher bar.

The instrumentation and mixing here are sub-OCR. The arrangement itself is rather simple, not elaborate enough to stand all by itself as the sole salient justifier.

So, on this close vote, for the first time I feel the need to intervene, and switch this back to a 'No' . . . hope that doesn't severely rock anyone's world or piss people off.

  3. Hmm, I just realized that I sent this thing in sometime in October, and come

to think about it, I don't recall getting a confirmation e-mail to go with

it either. So just in case it got lost the first time, here it is again.

    Name: Z Gravity

Original track: Summer Squid, Napple Tale soundtrack, composed by Yoko

    Kanno.

    Remix title: Red Calamari

    Link: (hope it works)

Righto, thanks for your time and here's hopin'. :)

  4. Hey, It's me, The Graceful Failure with a new Zelda

    64: Ocarina Of Time remix.

The tune is "The Song Of Storms", hence the name,

"Dance of Storms". The song is named already and the

    ID3v1 and v2 tags changed.

(edit: graceful failure says this is the new URL. He also says if it's accepted he wants it credited to "djcubez" - analoq)

That's the link to the song, please tell me if it

doesn't work so I can change the host.

Now about the song. It's a dance version of the song

of storms and sticks to the tune. However, what I did

to it was shorten up the lead a bit. It's more dance

and techno then trance, which was it's original genre.

I put in a TS404 synth and a square synth for the

lead. The songs title is already in

"Dance_of_Storms_OC_ReMix" and the credit goes to "The

Graceful Failure". I hope that's all I need to

    include! Thanks a lot.

  8. Note: this is an example of a mix that I would usually use the rejection letter for instead of forwarding to you. If you could, in addition to voting on the mix itself, please also indicate whether I would have been correct & within reason to use the letter instead of sending this your way. I need the feedback to judge whether I'm on the mark most of the time. Thanks. -djp

  9. It's a great mix, but the timing issues have nothing to do with it being in 7/8 time, which I can assure you I'm familiar with and which isn't really all that odd. At 2'56", for example, the main chords that lead into the key change are early. 7/8 is still really easy to tap along to; you just "skip" the last tap. If you're saying they line up, that's a bit odd, because other parts of the playing don't sound quantized, which is the way you'd know for sure if they were EXACTLY on a beat. Send me the file if you want, I don't mind & have Reason 2.0 as well.

  10. It's been almost 3 weeks since I submitted 'SoM Distorted Star submission' so I thought of submitting my newest arrangement, from Phantasy Star II - the dezoris overworld theme done in my usual new age and ethnic style.

The ID Tags might be messed up due to mp3.com changing them. Sorry about that.

    Title: Dezoris Winter

    File URL: (2.7 MB, 2:57, 128kbps)

    Game: Phantasy Star II

    OC Handle: GrayLightning

    Email: thegraylightning@yahoo.com

ps - URL: http://www.mp3.com/graylightning ( please add this url to my OC page, http://remix.overclocked.org/detailremixer.php?mixerid=292 )

    * UPDATE * - GrayLightning has requested that a newer version of the mix be judged.

I noticed Vigilante's latest was allowed a remastered version while in OC judging, so I decided to rerecord and remaster mine a bit. I think the end result is much clearer and cleaner, and now is in 160kbps with VBR up to 192 as well. I also changed the bass from a fretless bass, which a couple of people didn't like, to this oud and cello duo, which seems to fit better with the ethnic style of this mix. Thanks.

So, if you didn't like the older version, give the newer version a try.
