OCR00689 - *YES* Final Fantasy 4 'SNES Battle Medley'
djpretzel replied to djpretzel's topic in Judges Decisions
Moving - but we'll work this out. Still not sure if it should be retroactive or only for newer mixes . . . -
There have been maybe two mixes that I didn't even waste your time with, and in other cases people have tried to submit five mxies at the same time and I've only posted one, but those are the only instances of that happening. Idea is definitely to give people feedback. Now, as for this mix - not posting. It's very borderline, but it sounds like people are swaying towards changing their votes, etc. But let me add something - your standards are for you to decide on yourselves, individually. If the judges panel starts coming up with rules like 'we won't accept pieces with incomplete endings' (which is subjective, btw.) then the benefit of having seven *different* people deteriorates. An ending can be an extremely important part of the song, no argument, but I don't believe three minutes of great music can be foiled by a mediocre ending. Certainly, it can leave you with a bad taste in your mouth, but that also is subjective. I recommend judging pieces as a whole and just going off of whether you think they are up to snuff with the recent trend of other mixes that have been posted. It's you who determine the borderline, as the mixes I post directly are (I hope at least 90% of the time) pretty definite "yesses". Some of this is difficult - did the remixer MEAN to end the piece this way? Did he run out of ideas? Or maybe he really did think this was the best way to end the piece, for whatever reason? To me, guessing at the intentions of the creator is fairly futile. What I recommend asking instead is: one way or another, whether this ending is intentional or not, does it affect the whole of the mix so much so that I don't think it should be posted? That's a question only you can answer, but leaping to conclusions about someone's intentions in my experience isn't the best way to evaluate. That being said, that's just MY take on things, and you're here for YOURS, so take everything I say with a grain of salt - I'd like to provide some guidance, but stay largely out of your way. Let me know if I overstep my bounds, or if you think I'm understepping as well.

OCR00689 - *YES* Final Fantasy 4 'SNES Battle Medley'
djpretzel replied to djpretzel's topic in Judges Decisions
Thanks - I know it seems like a good idea, but would you just limit it to FF? What about Mega Man? Castlevania? What if someone wants to do a medley of five totally different games? I like the idea of having a medley option for popular series, but it would have to stop there in my mind, as it could get out of hand otherwise . . . -
Not posting . . . I'll cover the modification to the guidelines as soon as possible . . .

OCR00693 - *YES* Final Fantasy 10 'Far from Home'
djpretzel replied to orkybash's topic in Judges Decisions
Can't get to it - can't get to vgmix . . . can someone email it to me? Is it on Rob's server somewhere? -
I'm gonna tie break on this one since it's been here awhile and say no myself, primarily due to the reasons listed above i.e. flute.

I like your site. Here is a pacman remix that my band wrote back in the day. This summer we plan to write a few more to add to your site. We have a Bubble Bobble remix but the recording is bad so we will have to redo it. Some of our songs are at mp3.com/boymagician and yes, Boy Magician is the name of our band. This song was written, I believe, entirely in Fruity Loops Pro and then sequenced out in Acid Music. We ripped the Pacman noises from the ROM. If freewebz.com doesn't come up at all, just wait a few hours and try again i guess. I've had problems before with loading there. word to you motha.

I'm so happy that I got a song on your site^_^ Now I wanna submit another, although you probably won't post it for a while since I just submitted one somewhat recently. This one is my tetris remix. I just made it a few days ago (May 9th, I think) so its actually a recent song for once! The mix is called Dont Bug Me I'm Tetrising because that's what my older brother would always tell me when I'd try and talk to him while he was playing tetris:) Anyway...... here's the link: Artist: Main Finger Email: sakurabeta@hotmail.com website: http://www.undergroundtranceproject.com Hope you enjoy^_^ Personally I find this song quite addicting... -Jesse a.k.a. The song SHOULD be at: (Unless I'm over my rate limit or whatever) This is basically the Zelda 2 temple music, with a few Starcraft sound effects and stuff. Kinda neat actually. When I initially finished it, it was alittle empty sounding, so F4T4L 3RR0R started spitting out random suggestion, and the idea to you Starcraft sounds (most ghosts and Firebats) stuck, which thus explains the "F4T4L 4TTR4CTI0N" of the title. Peace

DJ Pretzel, DJ Night Force 9: According to my Javamusic hits counter, you have listended both of my submitted remixes. HOWEVER: As I recently realized, Mario's Aqua music box had a couple of mistakes: 1. The melody lead was a KILLER (ie too loud) on the ears and so its volume was significantly lowered. 2. Some of the notes from the bass did not match the rest of the music so that's been fixed. Please listen/download (to) this song again. In case you lost the site, it is: Thank you! DJ Night Force 9 Note that you have to register with javamusic.com . . .

Hi, I'd like to submit my remix of Castlevania's "Vampire Killer", entitled Big Bat Mix (after the first boss in CV1). I tried thinking of a decent title, but I couldn't really think of one OC Remix forever, DJ D-Rek Thread title changed by Orkybash to reflect the "game 'title'" format.

For the roughly third time, and finally with the appropriate ID3 tag, I would like to submit Hair's Breadth from the Eye, a MMX Storm Eagle remix to be found at . Yes, there are other things there, some of which will also be submitted, others which have been submitted before with no feedback, but for right now, focus on Hair's Breadth. forums SN / author handle: seanstar - seanstar please begin your post with a big "Yes" or "No" while we endure the poll issue - thanks.

I'm gonna add something to the submissions guidelines. While popular movie themes are often used in games, it simply wouldn't be kosher for OCR to become home to zillions of star wars remixes and what not. Any theme that is known more outside of a game than in it is highly questionable. Let's not ban this outright, as there may be some very special exceptions, but it should be strongly discouraged. A bummer, perhaps, but there are others sites for remixes of movie themes, esp. star wars, and OCR has to have at least a little form and focus. Opinions? All in favor? Against?

OCR00670 - Escape from Monkey Island "Metal Monkey"
djpretzel replied to Ginnsu's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Interesting - see, I would counterpoint that guitar work can be both "well done" and sound "raw" at the same time. I don't think everything in the world needs to sound overproduced and slick, and that's what I like about many mixes that make it through that have elements like this singled out. A dead-on, perfectly articulated guitar that was more in keeping with Van Halen or something like that would have been inappropriate, to me - this mix is raucous, and the guitar should reflect that attitude. That's actually what I liked most about the mix, on repeated listening. As a sidenote, compressing the bass should make it take up less of the spectrum, but chorusing would do the exact opposite - make the sound fatter and louder and more dominant. That's sort of paradoxical advice, though I agree a smudge of compression alone would have helped. -
poll results accidentally deleted - this mix was not accepted.

OCR00668 - *YES* Longest Journey 'Beginnings'
djpretzel replied to djpretzel's topic in Judges Decisions
Wanted to give deim0s some feedback as his previous mix took so long (and wasn't posted). -
Thanks for actually getting back to me on what's happening with the submission. If you don't like it (which is understandable, piano arrangements are hit-or-miss), and I'm actually at a point that's near posting right now, would you mind "substituting" this song for my submission: It's an orchestral/ambient arrangement of the Prologue music from the game The Longest Journey, a PC adventure game from Europe. Incredible soundtrack, freely available from the website. The arrangement is done entirely with a piano, a cello, and a choir. Please give me a PM back if you receive this, I'd just like to make sure that we're getting communication happening here. Thanks a lot. - deim0s I substituted as deim0s requested. I like this piece much better, too. Going to delete the coin song post . . .

Hey Pretzel and OC Judges, I don't know if you remember from my ahem..Roger Rabbit remix(which I abandoned) well I've got a new one. I'm sure its better than the Roger Rabbit one...Lets just forget it ever happened. Well here is the Info on the Song : Game : Final Fantasy 5 Original Composer : Nobuo Uematsu Remixer : Gman Well that's all hope you like the mix. And if You/the judges don't recognize the song from anywhere in the game, the title of the song is nostalgia. Thanks Gman

It's the off-key that gave me big beefage . . .
