  1. It took me a minute to figure out where this song was from but once the theme came in I caught it. What an overlooked piece of music to remix! The instruments have a unique sound with all those sound fx added in. It's got a nice full sound even at the quieter parts. It's fun, it's crazy, and it fits well with the original level - a madcap race with pixelly graphics from my favorite game of all time.
  2. I'm glad I'm not too late to contribute to the campaign!
  3. I went to the Fort Worth PLAY! conert last year. Having never seen game music performed live, this was a treat. They didn't play everything they had promised in the program, but it was still a very entertaining show.
  4. This is a really fun piece that makes me feel like dancing. It makes me want to choreograph a full dance routine to go with it. I especially like the bass section in the middle that utilizes the "pause" music well. I only wish this piece were longer since it's so enjoyable! Incidentally, this reminds me of one episode of the Super Mario Bros. Super Show, "The Unzappables", in the scene where Bowser's running a jazz club. This would fit in perfectly. Fantastic remixing. This is one of the first songs I ever downloaded from OCR and I still love it.
  5. I'm still impressed how you managed to take a three-measure theme and turn it into this amazing piece of music that doesn't seem overly repetitive. I love the loud, gritty sound this piece has - I think you've nailed Bowser's personality perfectly with this. I think this remix captures the feeling of a Bowser Castle level perfectly. It starts off a bit softer and then builds up to the final confrontation very well, with lots of little level obstacles in the way. (The beginning of the castle is never as intense and stressful as the final conflict.) I think my favorite part is at 2:48 where the metal band shows up - I could see this at the point in level 8-4 of the original SMB where you get to the Hammer Bro right before taking on Bowser himself. The tension is building until you confront the Koopa King himself, and then that ending! I couldn't think of a better way to end this song than with the NES sound effects of the bridge going down. This is an excellent piece to listen to while working out. You can almost feel the heat from the fireballs zooming over your head as you race down the stone corridors. In any case, this is a great audio tour of an old-school Mario game castle level, not to mention just a great piece of music.
  6. This sounds like a movie soundtrack more than just a remix of the familiar themes. I like the use of some of the motifs from Wind Waker at 1:31. All the different musical motifs are blended together seamlessly - especially where you hear the "Deku Tree's speech" segment mixed with the Hyrule Castle theme at 4:09, and at 3:00 where just a snippet of the title screen music comes in. I would have liked to see a bit of Ganondorf's theme mixed in place of the Hyrule Castle theme at a few points but that's really the only crit I have. If a Zelda movie ever sees production, this is the kind of music they need to use. I'm looking forward to hearing future installments.
  7. Beautiful piano playing. When I first heard this, I actually listened to this song three times in a row because I was enjoying it so much. I love those big delicious jazz chords and all the little fills in between the melody line. This is a lovely interpretation of the song, with enough variation to keep things interesting while still keeping the tune recognizable. I can visualize this being played in some kind of video game jazz nightclub. Almost an old movie feeling, where you'd see a black-and-white Chrono, Marle, and Lucca sitting around a table in a smoky room, sharing drinks after a long day of battling, while the piano player coaxes this melody out of the keys. The remix evokes a beautiful feeling of nostalgia that fits well with the game's 2D pixel style. Isn't it amazing when a piece of music can call such an interesting visual into your mind? Fantastic work, I hope to hear more mixes from you in the future.
  8. Hi everyone! I've been downloading songs from OC Remix since 2001, went away from the site for a while, and now I've rediscovered it. I love hearing all the unique arrangements that people can put to some of my favorite game music, even if not all of them are my cup of tea. My favorite series/games include Mario, Zelda, Katamari, Phoenix Wright, Kirby, the Smash Bros. games, and recently, Chrono Trigger. I've been gaming for a long time (I still have my original NES, and it still works!) and I like both new and old-school games. I joined this site to add some reviews of my favorite remixes and to keep up with the community. I play piano (although I haven't in years) and I love to sing. I'm looking forward to meeting members of the community here.
