OC REMIX ROCKS TEXAS! Guest announcements!
Lovely Peach replied to djpretzel's topic in Announcements
I had been considering going to SGC, now it's a definite yes! Probably just on Saturday - I'll have to see if some of my friends are interested too. -
The Console War is Over... In the cutest way possible
Lovely Peach replied to Toadofsky's topic in General Discussion
So very cute! *looks over at entertainment center* NES, SNES, N64, PS1, PS2, GC, XBox360, Wii, DS... (granted the 360 and the PS1 aren't mine, but they all seem to get along just fine anyway) -
On the 2nd commercial, anyone else notice how Mario's walking around in Vanilla Dome down un-cleared paths? Beta version perhaps?

I remember these ones really vividly from my childhood:

I absolutely love this track. I'm not usually a fan of remixes that add lyrics, but these just work so well - from the words to the type of voice used, this IS Robo singing. Every time this pops up on my randomized playlist I can't help but smile and sing along. Very fun take on a great theme from the game. And I love how you worked in just a little bit of Robo's in-game "speaking" sound effect.

It Finally Happened: Keanu to Play Spike in Cowboy Bebop
Lovely Peach replied to The Damned's topic in General Discussion
I suppose I should have clarified (although I thought what I meant was obvious). I love the animated Cowboy Bebop. I hope the live-action movie adaptation doesn't suck. -

I don't think Keanu's right for the part, but you never know - he may surprise us. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt until I see evidence that he'll be terrible in the part. I'm hoping it's better than most video game movie adaptations. I love the animated Cowboy Bebop, hope they don't ruin it. -
Possible New Zelda Aler--BZZT FALSE ALARM
Lovely Peach replied to Bleck's topic in General Discussion
Not really. Ganon died in the original Legend of Zelda game - the whole purpose of Zelda II is his followers trying to revive him using the blood of the hero (Link). Hence why Ganon pops up on the Game Over screen, because Link's death means Ganon is brought back successfully. </nitpick> -

maberasuentateimento sounds like "Marvelous Entertainment" (Japanese uses b's for v's) I'm pretty sure that's what it says. -

That was my thought on seeing this page. It looks cool, but I'm afraid that linking this to a new Zelda game is just wishful thinking at this point. Zelda fans see a Triforce, but I don't know that most people would. It is just a geometric shape, after all... -
OCR01092 - Chrono Trigger "Electric Clouds"
Lovely Peach replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Delicious chords in this piece. It really gives the song an interesting variety from the original. I've downloaded a lot of CT mixes in the last week (and there are a TON of this particular song) and this one just jumped out at me. I can't describe it, but something about the chords just feels "right". -
Just testing my sig image.

Very peppy, bright, and happy mix. I really like this, especially when the Super Mario RPG title theme comes in - I just love that game, so hearing themes from it always make me happy. AND the ending music from SMW! Such a great tune that's often overlooked, I'm glad you popped it in here. You combined some of my very favorite themes into this one ReMix. I'm not as familiar with the Mario Party music (had to look up the description to see what it was) but it's definitely not out of place here. This is a great tropical-themed Mario piece. The Yoshi's Story theme even works here, although the piano segment right before that comes in seems a little disjointed from the rest of the piece - it's not bad, but it doesn't seem to fit the theme of the rest of the song. Thankfully you get right back to the fun stuff quickly. There's a great full sound to this piece and the peppy beat just makes me wanna dance! Much better than the themes used in Mario Sunshine - THIS should've been the Isle Delfino theme! Very reminiscent of the Smash Bros. medley stuff too - excellent and a delight to listen to.

Best of luck! I love this mix and hope it gets accepted. -
OCR01788 - Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess "No Hope"

I really liked this mix until I heard the vocals rapping about Alan Greenspan. It really breaks the mood of the Zelda piece and jerks this out of the game atmosphere into present-day real life - if there have to be lyrics, why wouldn't they (neutrally) reflect the game's story or mood? It seems out of place and tacked-on, and it's such a short amount of the piece that I wonder why it was added. I liked where you had been going with the remix on Midna's theme. The instrumental work was great. The rap just kills it for me, and I don't think I'll add this one to future playlists. It's a shame, I really liked it up to that point. I wish there was a version sans rap - that would be a keeper for sure. -
I couldn't agree more. That's still my favorite game of all time.

OCR01539 - New Super Mario Bros. "Mushroom Maddness"
Lovely Peach replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I like that you took a higher-end sounding song and reverted it to the old 8-bit sounds (the :33 section). Talk about a serious reversal for this site. For a mix that sounds pretty ordinary at the start, it was a real surprise. The bubbly-sounding notes remind me of the original MC Kids game, and some of the notes around :48 remind me of the Rescue Rangers game. Funny how certain 8-bit synth notes invoke particular games. Then you really expand on the melody and take it in a more standard kind of direction for OCR. Really neat interpretations, but the melody seems to disappear altogether for portions of the song, until they finally return. There are sections where you can't tell it's a remix because it sounds like all original work. I liked the "good" sounding parts to be sure, but I personally would have liked to see this whole song done 8-bit style like the beginning with different synths. -
This game has some of the most unusual music from anything I've ever played. I think I like this mix better the more I listen to it. It's not my favorite mix, but it's an interesting take on an almost-random sequence of electronic effects. Given the source material, you did a good job with it. I hadn't thought about this particular song in years. Now I'm thinking about playing Mario Paint again, which is probably what initially inspired me to go into the graphic design profession.

OCR01550 - Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney "This Feeling"
Lovely Peach replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Let me start off by saying that I'm a HUGE fan of all things Phoenix Wright so I was delighted to see a ReMix on the site (wish there were more). This mix has a decidedly 90's flavor to it, probably because of the beats and the instruments used. I definitely get the "ending credits" vibe from the mix. If there's ever a PW anime series *crosses fingers* I can hear this being used during the credits (the guitar portion) or with dialogue overtop (the quieter sections). The intro is a little quiet and bland for my tastes, and I really start enjoying this mix after :37 when it picks up. Nice variation on the theme from the game, I like the subtle changes you made to the melody. When that electric guitar comes in at 1:47, all I can think of is the opening song from Beverly Hills: 90210 with that lead guitar. I'm also getting a Smash Bros. Ending Credits feeling from it - when you complete something like Classic Mode with a character, how you get a remixed version of their "theme" - kind of like that electric guitar version of the SMB3 theme in Smash Bros. Melee. I would love to see more Phoenix Wright mixes on the site. It seems to be underappreciated on here for such a beloved series. -
There are several major ones for me. First is the time I finished Super Mario Bros 2 - it was the first game I ever completed. I think I was in 3rd grade at the time. I remember the whole family gathering around to watch me fight Wart (just before getting to him, I remember calling one of my best friends and letting her hear the scary boss room music over the phone). I even wrote about finishing the game in my diary. Shortly after that, whenever I'd go over to my friends' houses, their dads and little brothers always wanted me to finish Mario 2 (or later, Mario 3) so they could see the endings. But my fondest gaming-related memory happened when I was in 5th grade. It was right after the SNES came out. My parents couldn't get one for me for Christmas, so in January or February they rented a system for me to play, just for 3 days. Unfortunately, since it was in high demand, they could only get it during the week rather than the weekend. So the first day, I played Super Mario World a bit after school. Not nearly enough time to play. But then on the 2nd day, my dad was driving me and my sister to school (it was on the way to work for him) and when he pulled up to the curb, the head teacher was standing out front. He flagged down the car and told us that a water main had burst under the school. They were going to send the rest of the kids home at 10am on buses, but since my dad had driven us in, we could go home right away. I spent the entire day (only taking breaks for lunch and dinner at my mom's insistence) playing Super Mario World, making it all the way to Chocolate Island (world 6). I have never played a game so much in one sitting before. Great memories. More recently, it was the midnight release of the Wii. I dressed up as Link to go get the system and took a bunch of photos. I'd never gotten a game system when it was first released before. So exciting (even though I had to wait til Christmas to play it).

OCR00493 - Super Mario Bros. "The Italian Plumber"
Lovely Peach replied to Ginnsu's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I can't believe that this excellent remix has been so overlooked. This is one of my favorite mixes on the whole site - I've loved this one for years. The minor key and different orchestrations of the familiar overworld theme really changes the atmosphere. It's a slightly sinister, very Italian sounding piece of music at the beginning, and it changes up somewhat with the inclusion of the invincibility theme in the middle before getting back to the standard overworld theme again. The playing is excellent, especially for being done live - and I think some of the background noise helps it feel even more like live music from a high-end Italian restaurant and adds to the overall picture. It's very Godfather-esque and it's easy to picture Mario in that role with this kind of background music. Do yourself a favor and download this underappreciated and very excellent mix. You won't look at Mario the same way after this. -
OCR01147 - Super Mario World "Super Mariocean"
Lovely Peach replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Very serene and floaty. The vibrato effects work well for the SMW underwater theme - this most definitely has the water world feeling to it. The last repetition of the bridge starting at 3:07 almost has an outer space feel to it as well. I liked the counterpoint harmonies and the slight variation of the main theme. Still completely recognizable but with some changes to make it interesting. I liked the arrangement with the piano that begins around 1:39 - the deeper piano tones help give this piece some nice bass. As others have said, it's a bit on the repetitive side. I didn't care for all the vibration on the 2:21-3:04 segment, it's a little dizzying (can't explain why exactly, but I feel a little motion sick at that segment). -
OCR01247 - Chrono Trigger "To Far Away Memories"
Lovely Peach replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I like this remix a lot. It's not the most technical piece, and it doesn't have a lot in the way of instruments and crazy orchestrations, but the song has a lovely simplicity to it. Very enjoyable to listen to, very acoustic new-age feel to it. I could put this in a playlist with Yanni tracks and it would fit in perfectly. A very pleasant listen, and it stands out from a lot of the heavy mixes on the site. -
Plumber's Bane (*Finished version)
Lovely Peach replied to Random Hero's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
WOW. The SMW Bowser Battle sequence gave me chills when those chords came in. There are so many excellent sequences in this mix - and this doesn't feel at all like a medley, despite all the songs used. And thanks for posting the track origins - it helps to pick out where the different melodies came from (I had missed the World 8 map tune altogether on first listen, and I'm not as familiar with NSMB as the classic games). Fantastic Bowser music throughout. Poor Mario - this is one hell of a long level! Hope to see this "officially" on OCR soon.
