Sonic Adventure Album Project
Tuberz McGee replied to Tuberz McGee's topic in Recruit & Collaborate!
What can I say? We're all fans of the blue blur. SA1 is never overhyped. It just hasn't aged incredibly well. Hahaha And yeah, definitely hit me up when you have some free time. I like your music and would be interested in seeing what you could come up with. There's no strict deadline as of yet, but I'll be working on that in the future for sure. -
Sonic Adventure Album Project

Got your PM, and I'm most certainly keen to have you on the project! We need some Rexy love. <3 -
SONIC ADVENTURE ALBUM PROJECT Hey guys, Tuberz here. I grew up with Sonic the Hedgehog in 3D and I don't think I'll ever be able to forget the incredible adventures involved with... well... Sonic Adventure. As one of my favourite games of all time (and with a bitchin' soundtrack) I figured it would make sense to start a project for it. So, well, here we are. What do we need!? I'm glad that you asked that! We'll need musicians who are either interested in providing music or collaborating with someone else to provide music. This music will be arranged from the source material in the Sonic Adventure OST. We'll also need artists and web designers and all that jazz down the line, but for now, the music is the core component. Not all tracks on the OST will need to be taken, I'm interested in having at least one piece of music from each 'Zone' taken. I'm adamant about the character themes and battle themes however. The Chao music is not needed, but would be a valuable addition. When do we need to be done by!? Another excellent question my friend. I'm not setting a strict final deadline for two reasons. The first one is that it's a fair ways from a major milestone anniversary for this game, therefore we should take our time and make every inch of it something we love. My second reason is that I prefer an atmosphere which is inspired by art... rather than deadlines. Some people produce excellent tracks in a week, and some it takes them months of slow chugging. Neither is wrong. I want to cater to both of these kinds of people. How do I sign up!? Just flick me a Private Message with which source tune you're interested in, if you'd be open to a collaboration and any key stylistic points that you feel will come out of your track (This will help me get a vibe for what you're aiming for). If you are a posted mixer or I know the general quality of your work I'll let you take the claim no issues (probably(don't quote me on that). However, if you are unposted and I'm not familiar with your work you can either send me something that you've done which you are proud of... or a general WIP of the source tune you're interested in claiming and we'll work from there. What's your role in this!? Well, I'm the guy who gets to eat chips and tell you if you're slacking (I kid). I'm going to be staying in touch with people on the reg to check in with how tracks are going and help out with pairing collaborative partners or giving possibly influential content for when you're stuck in a rut. I'll also be taking some tracks myself. If you run into any issues just flick me a message and I'll deal with it ASAP. I'll also be pooling my resources (read:lack of resources) to find another content evaluator to ensure that we get a diverse range of opinions on content. What are there so many Exclamation and Question marks!? !? PS1 20th anniversary album [CANCELLED :(]
Tuberz McGee replied to Ivan Hakštok's topic in Recruit & Collaborate!
Oh man! I completely forgot. You gotta keep on my back about this stuff. I'll get onto it right now. <3 -
I honestly reckon the album shouldn't be restricted to the anime/manga series in the first page, because I would rep the hell out of some Shaman King. Massive fan of it. <3

Hey yeah, I totally agree with those points as a student, especially as my only source of income is composition jobs (namely more for concert music however). I just feel like saying "you gotta pay $100~ a minute gee" is a little bit of a strange sentence considering there are so many differing contexts of composition employment. If you're with a AAA studio, then yeah, charge a little bit more, because the time involved will need to be proportionate. However, I've done little jobs for indie peeps for like... $50 for an entire four minute piece of music just because it was something anyone with audio experience could do and it would legitimately take me two hours tops. I feel like context is a really big part of scoping a budget. I don't even think I would charge more than $100 a minute even at a AAA studio given that revisions also add to the paycheck. I dunno. Maybe I'm just rambling or w/ever, but if a company wants quality, they're probably gonna go for the highly esteemed composers rather than the guy who undercuts (or at least you'd hope so). Also on the note of the "middle-class composer" dying out... I really don't see that. I just feel like lots of people sit behind their computers and look online for opportunities, whereas there's an entire dynamic (ie. going outside lel) that they're missing which contributes to possible jobs. Anyway, that's my 2 cents and I'll probably piss someone off. Sorry if I do. ily bby xoxo

Hey, I totally appreciate the majority of what you said as I've done a hell of a lot of composition for other mediums myself... however I feel like charging too low is a very opinionated statement. I feel like the wealth of a project shouldn't just be found in the monetary gain, but also in other factors. You can find wealth in new business partners, exposure to a compositional context you've never worked with before, and even just the enjoyment and desire for the success of the medium which you are composing for. Some amazing projects are made for little money, because there's just no money in independently developed games sometimes. I feel like when composers only value their craft for monetary benefit, we lose a part of our artistic value and credibility. But yet again, this is opinionated. I'd love to hear some more opinions on this subject.
