  1. Haha, fair enough. If you're using FL though, I'd *seriously* recommend checking out Gross Beat. It'll be available as a demo version right off the bat, but hot damn is it amazing. I tried that thing out a year ago when I first started doing music seriously (and for that matter, when I first got FL) and it instantly became one of my favorite plug-ins, and after about a week I gave in and bought it; pretty pricey, but I've more than gotten my money's worth.
  2. Oh god, if you're doing it on the master why wouldn't you just use the volume slider instead of 3 different bands? EDIT: although it sounds like you're doing it on just one track, and not the master
  3. Chair Soundz: The Musical Make it happen, people
  4. As do I... with a possible *SECRET WEAPON*?!?!?!!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!! Good luck with the job, hope it doesn't muck things up for ya. I want you at your best this round
  5. Looks like Finger and I will get that matchup after all ;D SUPER pumped for that
  6. By this you had better mean that it's a swingin' porno mix. That's the only kind of saxophone I hope to hear come Saturday. Oh and triangle. Lots of triangle. DING!
  7. Lol, "more of a calming feel"?! Not sure DnB was the way to go for that!! I didn't get that at all, it seemed to be pretty high energy still. Which is fine! Love me some high energy. But even just the progression of the thing gives off a VERY strong feeling of tension. If you DO decide to go higher energy, Will pretty much hit the nail on the head; more bass in the drums, and personalize instrumentation more. I'd LOVE to hear a version of this that knocks me flat on my skinny ass, and I'm sure you could accomplish this quite easily (not because I'm easily knocked on my ass, but because of the music you've already got ) There are a few sour harmonies too, like the last half of :42 and to a lesser extent, :45. Also some of the chords during the 1:16 segment. Love the drop-out right after though, makes a great building section. EDIT: well shit, I listened to the first version you posted for these time markings. A lot of the sour harmonies have been fixed, but most of the other stuff still stands. Also, thanks for finding another host other than YouTube This is a GREAT. FUCKING. Attitude to have. Quite refreshing from some of the recent "FUCK OFF I MEANT IT TO BE LIKE THAT" mentality that I've been seeing in the forum lately. Which, btw, will get you absolutely nowhere as a musician. Anyway, hope that helps out a bit. Best of luck pH
  8. Oh hey, I'm remixing this one too I'd actually say that the arrangement is fairly conservative, but there is a good amount of additional flair added... idk, I'm hearing a lot of the same harmonies that are in the source. Don't be afraid to switch things up with the progression of the piece. The piano could be improved with a little velocity work, it doesn't necessarily sound like a bad sample (it's not necessarily great either though), just not very humanized. I'd also slap a little delay on there, because delayed piano is sexy as shit. Totally agree about the drums. It sounds cool to have them in the background for a time, but just doesn't work when things get heavier. You can always put something in with more punch, and then play with the reverb wet/dry ratio to make it pushed back/come forward farther. Also super digging the stuttering going on in a lot of places, but in spots where you have the straight "4 e & a" snare end fill, it sounds pretty odd and inhuman (it's probably not SUPER noticeable, but I'm a drummer, and things like this bother me ) cause of the sample. Try having it cut itself before the next hit, so the sound isn't bleeding together, since that wouldn't happen on a real snare drum (drum gets hit, snares and head vibrate, hit again, snares and head vibrate anew; likely with a different tone as well). This is pretty easy to do in FL if that's what you're using. Also gonna agree with the guitars. Sampled guitar is... incredibly difficult to make work. There's just WAY too much human control over the sounds that come out of the instrument, and also too much randomness, to have a computer do it. There are a bunch of guitar players here on OCR, just find one (and advertise in the thread title, if you have to) and get em to collab with you I had a lot more to say, but the Gario had to go and distract me with a long/hilarious thread. So that's where I take my leave and get some sleep. Also, uh, gonna say again like I did in the originals forum, I don't think you can legally sell remix albums, even for just a buck... Hope this all helps! pH
  9. So are we still doing music for this? I'm about to start a track... are we still all about MUZIX FOR PROJ M?!
  10. I forge my OWN secret weapons!! IN THE FIRES OF MT. DOOM!! WITH SAURON AS MY SMITHING PARTNER!!
  11. We meet again I'm not sure what DAW you're using, but if you have FL Studio, you can download these and plug them into the 3x Osc (and actually, there are a lot of other REALLY great custom waveforms on this site, and I use them pretty frequently for my synthesis with some extra processing). These are sampled directly from the NES, and sound freakin' fantastic; there's even a tiny bit of distortion on the waves, as if they were being played through the NES sound chip. I actually really just got into chiptunes a few months ago, but I'd be glad to impart my bit of knowledge. Sine waves are kind of a no-no with most chippy stuff, which sounds like what you're using for the lead, yes? The only waveforms available on the NES and Gameboy (and lots of other consoles blah blah blah) were squares, rectangles (25% and 12.5% pulse), triangles, and noise. There was also a DPCM channel for sampling drums, to be played back in marvelous *7 bit resolution* There's also a fucking myriad of little techniques to give your piece a "chippy" feel. Wicked fast arps, grace notes, stutters, to name a few. And yes, totally agreed with the comments about the other instruments. If you're incorporating modern sounds into your chips, which is something halc and Ben Briggs and ProtoDome and Josh Morse and Danimal Cannon and Disasterpeace and lots of other chippers (including me) do pretty frequently, it's recommended that their quality doesn't match the lo-fi-ness of the chip waves. Mixing in the old school with the new can be pretty cool, if it's done correctly. halc and Ben both have about a bajillion mixes on the site, I recommend listening to them for some inspiration. Good luck man, I look forward to meeting you on the battlefield again in the future pH EDIT: OH, also, forgot to mention the plug-in "magical8bit." Another really great one, gives you access to the aforementioned chip waveforms, as well as an emulator for the hardware pitch-bending available on the NES and Gameboy. Should be available for free download on the netz OH, also, I'm not a mod OH, also, just listened to Timaeus's saw gap lead, which sounds pretty cool. Experiment with those NES waveforms and some more modern synths, I'm sure you'll be able to cook somethin' up
  12. Haha, I was more poking fun at your word choice (a "craptastic ending," literally hahahaha). I actually really liked your mix, and the end makes me laugh EVERY FUCKING TIME. Plus extra points for using a tracker. But, Ben's been improving even more lately, and hot damn, when he gets excited about a mix the thing's gonna be killer Glad you're digging it... And it looks like we may get our match after all! Excited And MAJOR props to Jake for putting together a GREAT piece in only 7 hours. Well done dude
  13. Lol, you weren't kidding PP... I'm either up against Jake or Finger. Either way... I plan on givin 'em a run for their money
  14. ...and I as well... the only question is... WHO WILL BE ON THE FRONT PAGE FIRST?!
