  1. So this is the prelude for a Nightwing track so far. The idea is to give Super Heroes their own themes, since the movies and shows have been lacking melody lately. I'm shooting to do sort of progressive elctro-orchestral, and I'm pumped to get some more work done on it. I'd love to hear what you guys think! pH EDIT: And just so everyone knows, I'm planning a much bigger drop after the "I quit." S'gonna be ausome
  2. Tough question. The OST from Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure (Master System/Windows 95 incarnation) is definitely my favorite OST of all time. Single tracks though? Idk. I also really, REALLY love Kazuya/Devil's theme from Tekken 2 (all 3 different arrangements; arcade, and then the separate themes in the PSX version). Mega Man 8 also has mega nostalgia value for me, as does Mega Man X. Armored Core has really great music too, especially the 3rd generation games... Idk, there's just way too much great music out there to pick any single track for me
  3. Guys I split my head open, and now I can't remember how to make music D: jk, a few staples won't stop me
  4. Haha I play from time to time, though I play League of Legends a lot more than I play SC anymore. And when I DO play SC, it's usually custom games. I stopped playing RTS a looooong time ago. Never got satisfactorily good for myself

Also, keep after me to crit your stuff after this week, but until then I'm teaching a drumline and writing show tunes and hanging out with the other drumline staff haha

  5. I listened to his candied words once, and woke up on his couch with no recollection of the night before No wait, that was at Ben's...
  6. Holy shit man, this stuff is amazing. Can't wait for the full release The second track sounds absolutely amazing. I loved the glitched out drum patterns, and the subtle emphasis on the melody. What synths and sound libraries are you using, particularly for your drums? The sounds are great, I wouldn't mind getting my hands on some of thems. Your soundscaping is amazing, everything's really verby yet remarkably clear. The processing on the dubsteppy track at around 4:40 is wicked cool. Everything seems to flow really well in your tracks, the structure sounds really good. I've been looking for some inspiration for a similar EP/album I'm looking at doing in the (hopefully) near future (after my chiptune foray ), and this definitely makes the cut. Great, great stuff man, I'm pumped for it EDIT: God, the more I listen the more I really, REALLY love the second song, and I don't usually gush like this. Sounds like something I'd strive for, melodic, glitchy, amazing percussion. I'll get the album just for that piece haha
  7. I actually just finished the series a week or so ago. It was freaking awesome. I'm anticipating it being something like Young Justice, in that the first season is ridiculously awesome, and you don't expect the second to live up to the first. The second might start off kind of slow and like, "wtf is this?", but I imagine it'll blow your balls off once it gets going (again, like Young Justice)
  8. I just saw that you worked on Mega Man Unlimited... super psyched for the release :D

  9. omgomgomgomgomgomgomg EDIT: LOL @ GECKO The ones that were flapping of their own accord at the end were the breast. I mean the best
  10. You bitch tit. Well, Indy is kinda on my way back, so I could probably bus Ben and halc back if they want to stay SINCE YOU CAN'T LOL But seriously though, this news makes me D': And Matt can't even go this year! He has a big boy job now, and he's taking all his time off to compete in the Tae Kwon-Do world championships. What a pussy, right? Quoth my other brother Clint: "How 'boutcha Tae Kwon-Don't?!" EDIT: But I actually am proud of him, but that's beside the point
  11. If it's just me, I'm riding with you guys. Done and done EDIT: Provided you plan on staying for the duration this time, you bum
  12. Wow, so, this is awesome dude. The only thing I have to complain about is the lead about halfway through. I'd like to see either more reverb, sine accompaniment (similar to the actual game OST), or maybe just a sine lead taking that line. If it's the same lead after the guitar part, it works really well, I'm just not too fond of it at the halfway point. This is awesome man, reeks of detail and atmosphere. Love all the subtle glitches and the crushed stuff in the beginning. Awesome work! pH EDIT: do you intend to sub this?
  13. God I hope they have that 5 Hour Energy promo again or whatever the fuck that was. If I drink 2 at once that's like... 5x5... that's like A DAY OF ENERGY
  14. I know exactly how you feel, I used to do a hell of a lot with more orchestral stuff (actually marching instrumentation quite a bit), so when I opened FL for the first time I was like, "this is stupid, there's no staff, and it's all loop based... no REAL musician would use this." But as I got more familiar with it, it became much easier to navigate. I still use a lot of high power organic samples in my work (I actually just bought Native Instruments' West African instrument soundpack, and am eagerly awaiting the download at work ). You can import sound libraries by putting whatever you need into the plug-in folder within the FL folder, and then scan for new plug-ins in FL itself. As for the "loop"/pattern based stuff, you don't need to be constricted to one bar. It sounds like you're talking about the sequencer on the left, which I really only use for percussive stuff and drum programming, and even then, I end up using the piano roll for velocities and stuff. If you right click on the instrument in the sequencer window, you can open the piano roll, in which you can do all your pitch-based work and alter velocities and a bunch of other fun stuff (and go for as many measures as you want). I've heard of people doing all of their work in a single pattern, meaning all the instruments would be in one track in the playlist for the whole piece. I've also heard of people making completely new patterns for literally everything in the song and ending up with about 150 of them. I personally write what I need as I need it, with one instrument per pattern (sometimes more, for chord work and stuff), and then if there's something that repeats, just put the pattern where it belongs in order to repeat properly. There's really a lot of freedom in how you compose, and I wouldn't write FL off just yet EDIT: And with film composition, there are other DAWs that people use, Nuendo, Cubase, Pro Tools, even Logic and FL have their place in film composition. Really, it's just whatever works best for the composer, whatever their personal taste may be. I personally don't like Logic or Reason, I've used both and they just seem too unintuitive to me, and the automation is nowhere NEAR as precise and easy to use as it is in FL. I've never used Cubase or Nuendo, though I've heard great things about both. Sonor is another one to look into, though again I've never used it personally. If you've ever heard how fucking awesome Vurez's organic instrumentation is, he's a Cubase user, for reference. BGC and zircon both do amazing work in FL. I don't see any reason why you can't do great sequencing in FL or Logic or Reason or WHATEVER if you have the know-how and the sample power. This is the part where I come back to preference. It's all about what you're comfortable using And hey, to your credit, I just found out that James Horner (composer for Avatar, Titanic, etc.) uses Sibelius to compose and then exports the MIDI to Pro Tools to dick around with. So there's that
  15. I listened to the OST when you first released, congrats man! Sounds awesome, I always enjoy ethnic stuff, and your work is always top notch. I'm not up to speed with all the technology mumbojumbo anymore, kids these days, right?. Actually, I'm 20 and just poor as shit
  16. Damn dude, that guitar playing is really tight. As in, rhythmically accurate. Very well done. I'd say you're gonna want to play with the arrangement a little more if you want it on the site (as you mention, it's mostly a cover at this point). Most of it's pretty repetitive, you can play around with chord structures, solos, add in some mellower segments, etc. I'd love to see another good rawk arrangement on the site though, and I'm not really the expert in that area (especially with guitar mixing/production work). Hopefully someone who's more familiar with that department will be able to help you out. Good luck dude pH
  17. HEY WES. If this is a problem for you, you're welcome to room with me and Ben and whoever the fuck else is with us. We'll probably have like 8 people in the room again. Supa cheap, yo
  18. Well, kinda by definition being "a professional X" means you make money doing that thing. You don't necessarily have to sustain yourself by it, but the fact that you make money by doing it is what makes someone a professional. Writing at a professional level is kind of a different thing too, because you can be a composer hobbyist and not get paid a penny for your work. Professionalism and expertise are different things
  19. Awesome man, thanks a lot You can switch it back from Mod Review, I'll probably just touch up the arrangement and then sub it when I get around to it. If any other mods have problems with production etc., I'd love to hear about it, but I don't wanna be a mod hog when there's other pieces up for mod review. Thanks again Ad!
  20. Also, most "game composers" might be remembered for their game music, but in all likelihood, they're composing for other mediums as well. Commercials, TV shows, film projects, solo work, live shows, etc... That doesn't have to be their only source of income
  21. You do realize there was more to my post than that, yes?
