  1. I'm so happy to see everyone liking this song so much! I think the snare is layered perfectly for this dancey style. And my later claps add just the right amount of get-up-and-go without being toooo clappy. Yeah that intro sine lead is meant to be mellow, a teaser for the epic first lead. And that short lead note was totally intentional to hear the gorgeous delay and the underlying EP chords. As for "Batman..." that is a private joke between anterroir and me from two years ago. It's not a translation, just a bit of sillyness! (and listen to *that* snare haha!)T - I know what "super-specific" thing you are talking about... I actually re-rendered three times trying to get rid of it... also couldn't find the cause... is it worth looking into further?
  2. I love this source. The beauty of this source is that it makes a nice blank canvas to write your own material over. I don't hear anything original until 1:13 when the piano comes in. I like the piano, it is a bit quiet, but this song screams out for great solos, right from the get-go. Several, unique solos with different instruments. And you can do tons with the drums in here too, lots of variations. A slow section, a fast one, sfx, glitching. And what about changing up those chords at some point for a unique section or breakdown? The bass is quite muddy and indistinct. The pad is very plain and dry. Spice up the sounds, improve the bass, just generally add more and better everything. Nice start though!
  3. We are now ready for mod review! Cloudhopping - mod review We have tamed the bass playing somewhat during the breakdown sections. We've tamed the main lead sound, as well as the "percolator" (that pingpongy thing) a little bit. We both felt the drums were already pretty good... although T did add a touch of Batman to the snare.   7. This is a gorgeous soundscape, nice and 3d. It's a bit repetitive for my taste, the instrumentation and drums/drum patterns never change. Very few chord progression changes. The piano tone sounds good to me but could use a slight high pass on the delay. Very nice, though!
  8. T is right, this ends up being nearly leadless... but it totally works imo... wow what a great, creepy soundscape you've created here. I absolutely love this. Great job using limited tools!!!
  9. Thanks Cody! It's great to hear from someone who knows this game, maybe it is less obscure than I thought! I'm completely addicted to it, and you are so right about the scenery and music. The music was just crying out to be remixed! I'm so pleased that everyone seems to like it so much!

I've been playing this very addictive little DS game called "Yoshi Touch and Go," which has very catchy music. So a little over a week ago I wrote a few bars of the main theme and sent it to Timaeus for giggles. He liked it a lot and ran with it. As it turns out, we write rather well together!   12. Do your other VSTs work? Kontakt or other big stuff? It looks like Zebra is working. I have no advice... have you made a post in Looptalk, they are usually super helpful there.

  14. Hi all, I'm collabing with Timaeus on a remix of Yoshi Touch and Go, a silly little DS game that is so addictive I can't stop playing it. The remix is actually 90% done and sounding quite groovy. But I can only find a couple of the sources on Youtube, and there are some sources we are using that I can't find anywhere on the web. Does anyone know where I might find the OST? The only other thing I can think to do is plug my DS into my computer and play the game, but then the songs will be mixed with gameplay, and recorded badly. Any helpful suggestions are appreciated.

  16. You can also use the 64bit versions of your plugins, bridged. I usually only have to do this with one instance of something big (like Kontakt) to get the memory usage back in reasonable limits.
  17. It does work. You can use the method I described below to get the first instrument hooked up to a midi cc automation. Then for all the other instruments, just click on the midi-out channel settings box, right-click the first knob you can assign, override generic link and type in whatever cc# you want to work with, then right-click again to automate it.
  18. Two things: 1. LoZ Skyward Sword - beating that flying whale thing called Levias, the one with the eyes underneath it. I hated the flying bird mode of travel in that game, and trying to kill those constantly moving eyes while trying to fly and not crash into the darned thing all the while was excruciating. Once I beat that, I sat down, took a break, vowed to only do that one time, and continued the game. 2. LoZ Twilight Princess - completing all 50 levels of the Cave of Ordeals. Ok, yeah I'm proud of that accomplishment! But once was enough.

  20. I love books. I have a huge library of them. Any time I'm into a new topic, I buy a book on it right away. No matter what the topic is. Sometimes ten books. So, what I do is I start reading the book, and start getting inspired and motivated and learning a few things, and about halfway through I put the book down and just start doing. Then I use the book as reference only, but often I don't even need to do that. But the book gives me courage and gets me started. I guess the books are like training wheels for me. Maybe Meteo feels similarly! I wish you luck Meteo, your music is already so great, can't wait to hear your new stuff.
  21. I have a small group of friends I share my wips with. I have one who is really great at music theory and can hear when I've violated musical rules. I have another who is great at arrangement and sound design. I have yet another who is a mixing genius. I typically send my wips to those three people and get the most amazing and diverse feedback from them. I trust them. Some wips I will throw into the wip forum here, once I'm detached enough from the song (after not working on it for a few days) to get more random and unexpected feedback... but typically I've bounced it off my Fab Three prior to that time. My stuff would never approach "shiny and perfect" without this feedback process. It's amazing the big stuff I miss by being too close to the mix. This feedback is essential for me to move forward. As for copyright stuff and stealing, gosh I can't help you there...
  22. The Midi Files by Rob Young I have this book and it's completely over my head at this point.... but it sounds like this is just the book you're looking for. Nothing about orchestration and all about working with the samples.
