  1. My inspirations come mainly from prog rock/metal bands. Recently I've been very inspired by Genesis for example. Other big influences in my style are Marillion, Frost*, Symphony X, Toto and Pain of Salvation. I also have some jazz influences but I can't really point a particular band since I don't actually listen to much jazz but I've read a few books and stuff about jazz theory because I love them chords but I'm not into improvising and solos that much.

When doing remixes, however, I tend to look for outside inspirations depending on the style I want to achieve. Sometimes I get inspired by other remixes, like zircon's, Willrock's and others. Other times I search for specific inspirations depending on what I want to do. For example, I listened to many western songs when doing a Paper Mario remix once!

  2. I'll be a bit nitpicky here (sorry!).

I don't particularly enjoy the drums here. I feel they don't sound powerful enough (snare is super weak) and you tried to mess too much with the rhytm to make it interesting, but instead it made the song lose power. The hats don't sound too good either.

Your playing is great! Nice vibrattos and bends, they sound very good. However, you should be wary of them when the guitar plays together with the brass, since I noticed some clashing notes there.

Regarding the general mix, I'd lower the rhytm guitars a bit since they overpower the rest of the instruments. The brass instruments could also sound a bit more clear. I don't know how you panned the song but maybe some panning could help the brass samples gain some space.

Anyway, I hope it didn't sound too harsh but I think this has potential and could sound awesome with some adjustments!

  3. Nice sound! I feel you went a bit overboard with the reverb and maybe boosted the high frequencies a bit too much. The intro in particular sounds way too washy.

I agree with Mikeaudio about the lack of low frequencies, which is pretty noticeable in 0:57 for example.

In any case, nitpicking aside, this is a very pretty remix. I like the soft strings in the middle. I also like how you used the ideas from the song in the section at 2:20, it sounds very good!
