  1. In my opinion, you shouldn't blindly follow fan desires unless you want their money :-D Of course you should read constructive criticism but opinions like "lol vocals 8 bit is better" are to be dismissed and ignored.

In any case, I feel you should music that makes you passionate. If doing "Welcome to the Real World 2" isn't what you want to do then it'll probably turn bad or, if by chance it turns good, you won't probably like it much, which is worse than your fans hating it.

I have to say I do agree with gecko about the brand issues. It'd be a smart idea to have a different artist name for different styled projects if you don't want fanbase issues

DISCLAIMER: This opinion is given by someone with no fans besides his family.

  2. I'm not particularly sure but I think it was the Stickerbrush Symphony remix in Brawl. I remember I listened to many Stickerbrush Symphony remixes and even the DKC2 OCR album because of that (I think it had just launched back then!). I did not register in the forums then though, not sure why... That happened a few years later, but I can't remember why I did it haha.

  3. In the earliest days of OCR, djp contacted the artists and asked if he could include specific songs on the site, so Sinergia, Chris Abbott, Instant Remedy, and IIRC, Rayza's first mix (among others) were ones where djp reached out to those artists in his efforts to get music in the very beginning of the site.

    Ah, interesting.

I still encourage people to listen to Sinergia's music. It's hilarious and amazing. If you speak Spanish you'll love the lyrics, but the style is ridiculously fun even if you can't understand what the hell the lyrics are about.

  4. You'd be better asking for tutorials than this. Like having someone do video tutorials of their mixes, like zircon has done a few times.

It fills the same purpose and is lots easier. I wouldn't do it though, because I'm not that good and I speak terrible english

EDIT: I'd watch Snapple's videos for example!

  5. Ha! This is a surprise!

This song is indeed the most Hakstock thing in the world. Super upbeat and with a nice tempo!

    Nice job!

EDIT: Ah, reading the judges thread I noticed a small complaint about the intro synth. I played it live actually, but since the rhytm is tough to follow with the backing patch I may have played more rigid than I should've.

  6. I love Mega Man but it isn't even Capcom's most succesful franchise. Not many entries sold more than a million copies actually.

With Inafune gone from Capcom and the games never being very succesful it makes sense that they aren't making them anymore.

  7. Yep, I meant the fact that the L/R triggers in the Gamecube could be half-clicked (is it just two different levels? I thought they registered pressure from half-click to full-click but that was just my impression from playing Super Mario Sunshine years ago!).

Of course, the games could be played with the Gamecube Controller Adapter, but Nintendo doesn't seem to be supporting it that much. I can only hope they do though, I'd love to play Paper Mario Thousand Year Door on the Wii U.

  8. the whole Wii games on Wii U is kind of lame. I don't usually bash Nintendo but it's just really underwhelming. You can already put Wii games in the Wii U; just having the ability to play it on the gamepad doesn't do anything for me.

What they really needed to do was add download support for GameCube games. I don't know why they didn't do that.

    Why is it overwhelming?

It's like Sony letting you download past titles from PS2 to PS4. You can't assume everyone has every old Wii game or that they can still buy a disc for a decent price. Metroid Prime Trilogy is impossible to find for a decent price and they're releasing it for $10! Besides, digital copies are awesome

Only bummer for me is no Miiverse support. I'd really love it if they patch that.

I agree about Gamecube support by the way. But if they can boot Wii discs with this new method, then they can surely boot GCN discs too. I wonder if they are avoiding it because of the L-R triggers?

  9. Nice remix! Source song is amazing and you treat it well.

For some feedback, I feel that the rhytm guitar is a bit low and it creates a weird contrast with the kick drum. It seems to me that you wanted to make a raw sounding kick sound for a heavy vibe, but the kick is the only heavy thing in the song, so it sounds weird. I think it'd sound more natural if the rhytm guitar had more presence in the mix.

Orchestral interlude is very very cool. What libraries are you using there? They sound very good. Chiptunes are also nice. I like how many elements this song has.

I can't really criticize that much to be honest, only my small gripe with how the rhytm guitar sounds. It lacks power! Otherwise, very very good remix.

  10. Interesting! Source has some nice chords so it lends itself well to the treatment you gave it here.

First thing to notice is that the mix is very very quiet. I'm terrible at making loud mixes but this one is way too quiet!

Anyway, regarding the mixing. Most elements sound good and are easy to pick appart from each other. However, I feel the bass is lacking. Kick has barely any low frequencies and the bass is very low volume, which is a shame since what I can hear from it sounds good, although it seems to lack a bit of articulations to make it sound better.

Regarding the arrangement, it's a nice take on the source. I feel it gets a tad repetitive though, you could try making more chord variations or switching the key of the song. You could also try having a break in the middle with only piano or something to switch it up. Maybe even going to 6/8 like the source for a bit would be cool.

Only thing that bothers me is the back-up synth pad, which I'm almost sure is playing some off-notes in the second chord of the main progression. It sounds a tad off to me.

Anyway. This is very cool, particularly the break at 1:10 which is very nice!
