I suck at making loud songs... I'd rather make them quiet but it's not really feasible since I don't want to mess with people's speakers!
-
My inspirations come mainly from prog rock/metal bands. Recently I've been very inspired by Genesis for example. Other big influences in my style are Marillion, Frost*, Symphony X, Toto and Pain of Salvation. I also have some jazz influences but I can't really point a particular band since I don't actually listen to much jazz but I've read a few books and stuff about jazz theory because I love them chords but I'm not into improvising and solos that much. When doing remixes, however, I tend to look for outside inspirations depending on the style I want to achieve. Sometimes I get inspired by other remixes, like zircon's, Willrock's and others. Other times I search for specific inspirations depending on what I want to do. For example, I listened to many western songs when doing a Paper Mario remix once!

For anybody interested I posted a WIP of my track in the project forums. Hope you enjoy it! -
Spiritual successor to Banjo-Kazooie, Yooka-Laylee
jnWake replied to Neifion's topic in General Discussion
This looks lovely. I'll definitely buy it when it comes to Wii U. -
Are you interested in more FE7 tracks? That game has a stellar soundtrack. If the answer is yes, don't sign me in yet though, but count me as super interested haha.

finished Punch-Out!!: Fight Theme - Guitar Cover
jnWake replied to JeffKekenj's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
I'll be a bit nitpicky here (sorry!). I don't particularly enjoy the drums here. I feel they don't sound powerful enough (snare is super weak) and you tried to mess too much with the rhytm to make it interesting, but instead it made the song lose power. The hats don't sound too good either. Your playing is great! Nice vibrattos and bends, they sound very good. However, you should be wary of them when the guitar plays together with the brass, since I noticed some clashing notes there. Regarding the general mix, I'd lower the rhytm guitars a bit since they overpower the rest of the instruments. The brass instruments could also sound a bit more clear. I don't know how you panned the song but maybe some panning could help the brass samples gain some space. Anyway, I hope it didn't sound too harsh but I think this has potential and could sound awesome with some adjustments! -
finished TLOZ: Song of Storms - Acoustic Remix
jnWake replied to Benjaipod's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Nice sound! I feel you went a bit overboard with the reverb and maybe boosted the high frequencies a bit too much. The intro in particular sounds way too washy. I agree with Mikeaudio about the lack of low frequencies, which is pretty noticeable in 0:57 for example. In any case, nitpicking aside, this is a very pretty remix. I like the soft strings in the middle. I also like how you used the ideas from the song in the section at 2:20, it sounds very good! -
The name of the mix made me expect something (even) more proggish! Some of the synths and guitar parts were very DT-ish though. Anyway, it's nice to have some remixes from this game since it has great music. Like Brandon said, some of the synths in the intro aren't that good, but at least they create a nice atmosphere. Nice job!

PS1 20th anniversary album [CANCELLED :(]
jnWake replied to Ivan Hakštok's topic in Recruit & Collaborate!
I'll do my best to send something good. Silly deadlines always putting pressure on me ;_; -
Ah, a shame it got delayed, but your daughter walked! It's so cute when babies start growing up, especially when they talk and say adorable things.

PS1 20th anniversary album [CANCELLED :(]

Holy crap I had forgotten about this -
In my opinion, you shouldn't blindly follow fan desires unless you want their money Of course you should read constructive criticism but opinions like "lol vocals 8 bit is better" are to be dismissed and ignored. In any case, I feel you should music that makes you passionate. If doing "Welcome to the Real World 2" isn't what you want to do then it'll probably turn bad or, if by chance it turns good, you won't probably like it much, which is worse than your fans hating it. I have to say I do agree with gecko about the brand issues. It'd be a smart idea to have a different artist name for different styled projects if you don't want fanbase issues DISCLAIMER: This opinion is given by someone with no fans besides his family.

I'm not particularly sure but I think it was the Stickerbrush Symphony remix in Brawl. I remember I listened to many Stickerbrush Symphony remixes and even the DKC2 OCR album because of that (I think it had just launched back then!). I did not register in the forums then though, not sure why... That happened a few years later, but I can't remember why I did it haha.

Ah, interesting. I still encourage people to listen to Sinergia's music. It's hilarious and amazing. If you speak Spanish you'll love the lyrics, but the style is ridiculously fun even if you can't understand what the hell the lyrics are about.

You'd be better asking for tutorials than this. Like having someone do video tutorials of their mixes, like zircon has done a few times. It fills the same purpose and is lots easier. I wouldn't do it though, because I'm not that good and I speak terrible english EDIT: I'd watch Snapple's videos for example!

I love familyjules and would love to see him try and do something more OCR-ish. He mostly does covers and medleys but, who knows, the panel may like them! In any case, OCR or not, he's awesome.

If it has the graphical quality of the last Kirby game then it'll be great. I remember the 64 game being kind of cool. Stage transitions and neat stuff.

Seems I'm only productive when entering competitions lately so I would be interested! Looking at past compos though, I've noticed a severe drop in number of voters and stuff. I wonder if there's some way to make more people participate...

Ah I hope this catches on. I've been playing Fire Emblem for the GBA on the Wii U VC and it's great. I have a lot of pending remixes though so I won't sign in... For now!
-
Ha! This is a surprise! This song is indeed the most Hakstock thing in the world. Super upbeat and with a nice tempo! Nice job! EDIT: Ah, reading the judges thread I noticed a small complaint about the intro synth. I played it live actually, but since the rhytm is tough to follow with the backing patch I may have played more rigid than I should've.

This link could be helpful: http://www.capcom.co.jp/ir/english/business/salesdata.html Mega Man is below Street Fighter, Resident Evil and recently Monster Hunter in sales, even with many many more titles.
-
I love Mega Man but it isn't even Capcom's most succesful franchise. Not many entries sold more than a million copies actually. With Inafune gone from Capcom and the games never being very succesful it makes sense that they aren't making them anymore.
-
At most I'd buy Yoshi, Mega Man, Ness and ROB. I haven't bought Yoshi yet though and I'm not sure if I will either... They seem nice but all these stocking issues are too much for me haha.

I've had dreams where I write songs. Sometimes they are awesome and I can't remember a thing about them when I wake up ;_;

'Mystical Ninja 64 Remix Album' on hiatus
jnWake replied to Mikeaudio's topic in Recruit & Collaborate!
Awesome idea! Right now I owe too many stuff to sign up but I'll be checking. I love this soundtrack.
