  1. Is this Okami or Dark Souls? Intro sounds awesome, very haunting. Did you use a VST for that japanese flute (sorry, don't know the name of the instrument)? It sounds pretty good. Arrangement is cool. Sounds like something you could put in an action scene from some eastern based movie. Or, alternatively, in a boss fight of Okami haha.
  2. Hah, this is cool! The small changes you did to the melody are cute but also conflicting since I'm so used to the source haha. There's not really much I can say about this TBH. Love the accordion and the backing instruments add a lot of charm. The change at 2:00 was also pretty cool, and it helps the mix differentiate more from the source.
  3. I wonder why you raise the tempo so quickly haha. It's nothing major but it's weird to have such an abrupt tempo change 10 seconds into the song! Anyway, the arrangement is pretty cool. I don't honestly remember the source but it sounds very natural as a metal song. I agree with DevilBeats about the delay. It honestly sounds pretty bad since the delayed notes are awfully loud and it makes everything clash so much. Playing was pretty good mostly but I feel your vibrattos are kinda weak. With these kind of leads you expect the lead guitar to "scream" and your vibrattos and bends sound pretty tame. It may be a bit of a cruel comparison but listen to the lead guitar in this mix: https://soundcloud.com/ocremix/1-06-mega-man-x-sixto-sounds . That's what you should aim for in expresiveness with bends and vibrattos IMO (the bend/whatever at 1:35 is an amazing sounding one for example). You could also try using more slides and legatos in the lead too, instead of picking almost every note. Overall, this is neat. Mixing is pretty good IMO, with the drums and rhytm guitar sounding powerful and clear. Some leads play on low octaves which can be a bit jarring though. EDIT: To not sound overly critical haha, I listened to your cover of Dark Palace and you use way more "expressive" techniques there that are absent from this mix. You should try to incorporate those to this arrangement since they can add a lot of personality and style to the mix!
  4. Ah this sounds great! There's a few tiny mistakes in the guitar sections, but who cares it sounds lovely as it is. Regarding the mixing, it sounds a bit crowded in the first sections since everything is playing similar octaves. I'm not very good at mixing TBH but maybe it'd help to cut more frequencies of the acoustic guitar. You should leave the higher frequencies to make it sound clear and noticeable while removing some of the mid since that is often very crowded with acoustic guitars. You shouldn't remove that much though since it could sound very empty otherwise (especially since the guitar is driving all the chords and base of the song). Panning also helps a lot. I'm not sure how you're doing it here but you could have acoustic guitar tracks panned hard left/right and leave the melodies at the center. You could also experiment and do the exact opposite to simulate more of a live experience. Like, imagine where each musician would sit and pan accordingly! Comparing to the source material, the main difference is the lack of a bass. If you listen to how the original is mixed, the rhytm guitars are much less present and it has more percussive instruments to drive the rhytms. In any case, I feel this sounds great. Performances are pretty good!
  5. I'll echo T-Ape's sentiments a bit. Intro sounds empty since none of the instruments takes the "lead" and it feels like everything is floating without a solid base. The flute is clearly playing similar notes to the source, but the lack of the harmonies present in the source makes it sound thin. The strings is also playing loose notes so it sounds thin too. Finally, the bass is playing some pretty random notes, even going off-key at 0:18 and a few other moments. The mix gets noticeable better at 0:28 when the percussion and different synth kicks in. It's now much easier to follow what the song is supposed to be! Since the bass loops is repeated here you can still listen to some off-key notes. Overall, this is a pretty true to the source mix (which is a great source by the way!). I honestly feel the flute doesn't work currently since it's simply too thin to carry such a sparse soundscape. Besides, the melodies it plays don't feel very focused and almost seem like random notes. I feel you could add to this by having the string synths do more noticeable chords or something to guide the listener. Besides, having some chords there could help it make more unique when compared to the source.
  6. The hell is this style haha. I love it though, perfect mix of Flex and XPRT's styles, with Flexstyle's electronic chops and XPRT's quirky creativeness. If I had to critique anything, I felt the guitar playing could've been more "stylish", like using slides for the chromatic licks or stuff like that. It sounded a bit boring for such a fun mix, ignoring the crazy bumblebee-esque thing at 1:17. Sax playing was, as always, spot on. This is awesome and I hope we get a blues/jazz/whatever remix of this source next haha.
  7. Intro is very nice. I feel like I've listened to the chord progression somewhere before haha. Change at 1:00 is quite big, breaking the peaceful mood for what almost seems like a Transformer robot haha. The little progression at 1:28 was pretty cool. I feel a bit troubled about this mix TBH. I really like the calmer parts of it, lead synths sound super pleasant and the backing synths just create a really lovely atmosphere. The heavier part at 1:00 kind of ruins the song a tad for me. Luckily it's the shortest part of the mix so I can say that I really like this overall! Ending was a tad weak though.
  8. Damn, this sounds evil right from the beggining haha. I can imagine some pretty hardcore dancing along to this mix. I love how the bass synth plays the bass line from the source. I'm not sure if I'm fond of the few SFX used here though. Being honest, I didn't feel the slap bass section much. Although it was nice to have a change of pace, I felt it broke the rhytm too much and for too long. I do like the use of the trumpet samples though. I'm far from an expert in electronic music so maybe this kind of breaks are common for the style though. Overall, this is pretty good. I'm not a big fan of this kind of music but I can appreciate the things it does correctly.
  9. I love the intro chords. Not digging the SFX at all though. I'm usually not fond of remixes that spam SFX too much to be honest, especially ones with Mario's voice haha. Besides from the SFX, this sounds awesome. As I said above, the chords are awesome. Bass line is also damn good. It took me a while to identify the source tune since it's used in a not very conventional way. Usage of the main Super Mario Bros theme is a bit risky since its chromathic nature clashes with the background a bit. Overall, awesome track!
  10. Ah, uplifting rock/pop! I'm honestly not a man that particularly enjoys such happy sounding music but I can see that this one is nicely arranged and produced. The buildup in the intro was pretty nice. I like the drums used, add a nice feel to the song. Synth leads are also good, sounding very mellow and welcoming. Piano sounded a bit toy-like, but maybe it was intentional? It feels like you cut too many frequencies off it. Tone change at 4:10 is beautiful, my favourite part of the mix by far. Overall, this is great! Clean production makes it sound super enjoyable and the arrangement is fun. Making 6 minute pop songs not drag is an accomplishment!
  11. Nice rock remix. I like how the drums aren't stuck to a typical beat and instead switch between different rhytms in the different riffs of the song. However, I feel the drum sequencing is very mechanical (very notice-able in the section where the drums play like orchestral percussion). The bass also felt mechanical in the 2:00 section. Regarding the arrangement, I like the idea of symphonic rock, suits the sources well. I did feel you were lacking some instruments playing higher notes though, since it felt that everything was in the middle. Overall, this is a rather nice rock remix. I'm disappointed you didn't use the "Character Select" theme from Smash 64 though haha.
  12. I really want to like this, but the tuning seems a bit off to me. It's nothing huge but, sadly, it bothers me a lot . For example, the backing guitar near 1:16 sounds pretty bad to me (and even worse if I play along on my keyboard). Ignoring that issue, the arrangement is sweet. It has a very calm and pretty vibe. The electric lead sounds super bright, but it adds to the peaceful mood. Having vocals there was cool but they clash a bit with the guitars a few times (the tuning issue again).
  13. Hah, this is cool! I love the use of brass for many rhytm parts. Harpsichord sample sounds a bit weak in a few parts but it's nothing major. Arrangement is quite fun and incorporates many different instruments, from harpsichord to a pipe organ, to a piano, strings and brass! The break at the 2:00 mark is particularly good, with amazing use of dynamics to make a calm yet creepy section followed by a more intense and louder section. Overall, awesome remix!
  14. Intro is sweet. The drums are simple but very effective. The choir sample is a bit too crappy though haha. Lead synths are very interesting although they make the melodies a tad harder to identify. Section around 2:30 is a bit messy IMO, too many effects and stuff going on makes it hard to focus on something. Overall, this is very cool. Experimental sounds with a nice (if a bit repetitive) percussion is a cool combination. It does seem to lose focus near the ending though.
  15. Solid intro here. Nice pads, percussions, voice samples and synths used to create the eastern feeling. The bass that enters at 0:45 has a cool saw effect but sounds a bit thin, like if it lacked more bass. Not sure if I have much else to say, the samples are nice, production is clean and the arrangement is fun, even if it doesn't have many catchy melodies. You really nail this heavier electronic sound which is quite zircon-ish. Maybe, even too zircon-ish! That's a compliment of course, but I'd be interested in having you branch out a bit more sometimes.
  16. This is classical Sir_Nuts. Mix begins interestingly with a cool somewhat syncopated synth. It could get tiring fast but luckily there's enough effects applied to make it a bit varied even if it plays the same thing for like 1 minute. I wasn't really feeling the bass notes there though (just before the minute mark). The following section is more upbeat with a cool bass line and some interesting rhytmic synths on top (and some voice samples too!). It gets a bit repetitive then, but not enough to bore me since the rhytm is tight and the production is clean. I think that adding some newer stuff near the 3:00 mark would've been welcome though. Overall, this is a pretty good remix with clean production and interesting use of samples and effects to fill the soundscape. Can't speak much about the source usage since I'm not familiar with it although I had a quick listen and immediately heard the theme used in the intro.
  17. I love the drums in this one. They sound powerful and I enjoyed the more electronic elements in the intro. Arrangement is sweet, the combination of strings and heavy guitar works amazingly. I do feel the guitar could be louder though since it gets a bit lost in the mix. On that note, I like how you mixed the bass. It's not often that you can hear it so clearly and notice all the cool licks it has. Introduction of the lead guitar is nice too. Overall, very good remix. As Necrox pointed out, the xylophone adds a cute touch to it and the mix of rock and orchestra elements is sweet. I feel the production could be polished a bit since the rhytm guitars got a bit lost in the mix. I'd have also loved to see the more electronic elements from the intro in other sections of the song.
  18. I didn't feel this one as much as the people above me sadly... The intro rhytm doesn't really grab me. Maybe I'm too used to the original but I don't feel like the rhythm really works with straight 8ths. The saw bass is also too loud for my tastes. The clean one that comes later is a lot more pleasant. I'm not a fan of the monkey and other noises but they're an interesting idea at least haha. I liked the break at 1:58. It's empty but it works IMO. I felt the lead could've used more reverb or delay in that section though to add more depth. Drum work in this section is also pretty cool. Overall, it's nicely produced but I felt that it was going nowhere. It's probably not my style though since people above me enjoyed it more.
  19. Everyone said it already but this is pretty good. A somewhat straightforward approach to the song with cool solo-ing on top. I like how the focus seems to be more on the chord progression of the original rather than on the opening notes, it makes it sound refreshing. Guitar playing, as pointed out by everybody above me, is spot on and damn good. If I had to offer some nitpicking, I felt the snare sounded a bit stale sometimes, like if the velocity didn't change much.
  20. Damn the sound design is cool here. Bass sounds awesome, as do the drums with the crushing and whatever effects you applied. Drum writing is also pretty interesting with all those fills. Leads are also very cool but maybe a bit quiet? It seems that drums and bass are the main focus here but I'd like if the leads and other elements were a tad louder too. Anyway, this is a very good song. I'm not familiar with the sources at all but I enjoyed it. Cool mood, awesome samples and fun writing overall.
  21. I think I'll do some reviews. Probably not gonna reach a high number but every bit helps!
  22. This looks so cool. There should be a OCR Secret Santa Remix edition where people ask for remixes or something like that. That way people like me from countries far away could participate
  23. That is awesome! GS has an incredible soundtrack so those MIDIs are definitely interesting.
  24. I thought it was hype. Corrin looks very unique and that Dragon Lunge move seems very cool. Bayonetta was awesome. Looks incredible to play. My biggest surprise was no Wolf. Everything pointed to him returning (Roy and Lucas being DLC, Star Fox Zero) but he didn't. I wonder why...
  25. I think I first heard something from OCR like in 2010 when Serious Monkey Business was released. Probably earlier than that but I'm not sure. I heard some remixes on YouTube and thought they were pretty cool. For some reason I didn't think of joining back then though, not sure why. Anyway, in 2012 I decided I should try using better tools for composing (I had been using Guitar Pro for several years since I didn't plan on recording and producing music myself) and I joined OCR since it seemed like a nice community where I could learn stuff. And it was! I have been a lot less active lately though but I hope I can do more remixes soon...
