Yep, NNID are still a bit archaic. I still buy digital because on my country everything is more expensive physical and the US$ to my country's currency exchange benefits me

I've been a terrible member of the album so far but I swear I'm working on my mix

I'm not a huge fan of traditional jazz but I really love the chord progressions and alterations in jazz music. I've studied a bit of it just to try and insert some of that into that music but I still have a lot to learn. I do like fusion bands and jazz-inspired stuff, but early jazz and overly complicated songs bore me.

This a veeeeeery long build up. It feels a bit weird though because the intro has all these awesome pads and stuff and when the build up is finally over, the soundscape becomes so barren... I don't know, it feels like you were aiming for a different type of song before the build up. Anyway, the samples picked are mostly pretty great. Drums are very 80's! The main bass sample is a bit too static though, I'd add some modulation to make it more interesting. I like the mood of this remix but I'm not sold on the transition from the build up to the main riff of Chemical Plant.

finished Super Mario Kart - Rainbow Garage

This is pretty cool! It gets a bit crowded in some sections though, feeling a bit muddy. I'd add some delay to the E. Piano synth in 0:42, could sound nice Drums at 1:18 bother me a bit, why did you do such a strange rhytm haha. Also, the heavily detuned synth strings are very hit or miss. I don't personally enjoy them. In any case, I loved how groovy this is. Nice remix -
wip Welcome to the Mines (Mining Melancholy) - DKC2
jnWake replied to Cash's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
At the beggining it sounds like a remix of Song of Storms from Ocarina of Time (especially the melody that the synth plays)! Anyway, I like the synths at the intro. Snare sound is a bit too tame though, add some more noise to it! I felt the part beggining at 0:26 was a bit repetitive, maybe you could repeat it less times? Or add more variation, not sure. By the way, is the melody there suppossed to reference the original? Nice change at 1:02. I love the bass sample, sounds very DKC2-ish. Lead is nice but the release is weird, like too sudden. Sample at 1:23 is a bit dull, I'd spice it up a bit. For example, the sounds you used at 1:55 are much more interesting. Overall, this is cool but a tad repetitive. You could attempt inserting some more natural sounds (I mean, not synths!) here and there for some variety. Drums are a bit tame in my opinion, the ride cymbal sample is barely noticeable. Nice job! -
Albums - Are they worth it?

That's because Fabrication is the best song from the album. Because I say so. -
Albums - Are they worth it?
jnWake replied to AngelCityOutlaw's topic in Music Composition & Production
I think albums are completely worth it from an artistic perspective, particularly if you try and fit some kind of concept into it. Releasing a collection of random songs doesn't seem that fulfilling to me but it still represents weeks/months/years of hard work so it's neat. From a money perspective I'm not sure. I guess it depends on the style (kind of hard to make cash on a progressive fusion metal album I guess ). -
I have some Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze Speed Runs in my YouTube channel! If you're looking for truly impressive ones, you should check siglemic's Super Mario 64 runs. Those are the best and rival Super Metroid imo. Banjo Kazooie runs are cool too.

Very cool! I don't feel like criticizing anything so sorry for not being really helpful but I really liked this remix -
Greninja is quite surprising. I wonder if they'll add a grass starter for balance. Sceptile is cool! New Zero Suit Samus is very cool too, even if they designed her a bit too perfect haha

I'm actually excited for the GBA VC since I didn't own a GBA (or DS) so I've played like 2 GBA games on emulators. I'll try Advance Wars and Golden Sun first! Also, seems the Gamepad implementation is cool. I hope they update the NES/SNES emulators with more features like this one.

wip Wiesty & XPRTNovice--Variations de Chocobo
jnWake replied to Wiesty's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Haha this is pretty cool, you can't go wrong with XPRT! I feel that the volumes are all over the place though, you should use more compression because there are tons of volume jumps in many sections and they are a bit distracting. I also feel everything is slightly dry, so you could add reverb/delay. The 3rd arrangement is really good by the way, very interesting interpretation of the source! -

jnWake replied to Jamphibious's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
I love this remix! If I were important in this site I'd direct post it immediately Anyway, for some useful "criticism", I feel the backing e. piano could use a bit more punch. Maybe editing it so that the attack is a bit more noticeable would help. Also, as timaeus said, the kick could stand out more. I have no problem with your guitar playing by the way, but I guess it could use more vibratto in the longer notes. -
wip Metroid (NES) - Met(e)rodd (Jazz/odd meter)
jnWake replied to Nostalvania's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Ha! This is great, like Sim City meets Metroid or something. Samples are very dry, particularly the leads. You should try and get live instruments for this, it'd sound incredible. Arrangement is really cool but I wonder why you stopped using kick and snare for like half of the song I missed them! -
Nice mood! The piano (both acoustic and electric) lines are great and I love how they sound. I feel the bass and kick are too low though, while the hihat is a bit loud and stale. Beautiful song !
