  1. Almost identical was a bit of an exaggeration, sorry What I meant was that there are no alterations to the style and most of the melodies of the original song. Like I said, the orchestation is quite nice, and you create some subtle interesting moments and harmonies with some instruments, but the core of the arrangement is still very similar to the source. That's what I tried to say in my first comment. The last minute has the most notorious innovations, which is why I highlighted it in my first post.
  2. Finished version is up now! http://soundcloud.com/jnwake/empire-of-metahl Hope you like it. Any criticism is welcome.
  3. Orchestation sounds good, but I think the arrangement is too conservative. Not counting the end, it is almost identical to the source. The ending is a bit more interesting, though some parts are (maybe intentionally) dissonant.
  4. Baroque would've been a fun idea, but I didn't think about it Anyway, I updated the song (link in the OP: http://soundcloud.com/jnwake/royal-coin ): - Changed the piano patch to a better sounding one. - Added Contrabass to the song. - Added a couple new sections. I still haven't worked on humanization/adding effects, so it still sounds quite rough. I'm still not sure if I should add percussion or something like that. Comment if you can!
  5. Chiptunes are neat but I honestly don't find them very exciting here. The arrangement is quite conservative, really only adding drums, but it isn't bad. I'd suggest you to add some lower strings, since it sounds too empty with nothing playing low notes.
  6. It is quite rough, but I have to say I loved the bass. I think you should continue with this kind of funky/odd mood using the rest of the themes of the source. After all, the Tristam theme is quite long.
  7. I love this mixes. The last one is pretty amazing. The sounds picked are nice and create a quite tense atmosphere (even the one that sounds like an orc farting).
  8. This is a (mainly) 6/8 remix of 'Coin Song' mixed with 'Edgar and Sabin' (the castle theme). Most recent version: .Older version: https://soundcloud.com/jnwake/final-fantasy-vi-a-waltz-for-a . Sources: - Coin Song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=njdju0gL_xk&feature=BFa&list=PL905DD7A1D1A57F4F . - Edgar and Sabin (Figaro Castle theme): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W6DwKL87XVA&feature=BFa&list=PL905DD7A1D1A57F4F .
  9. Maybe I got it wrong but he said we were free of polishing our subs, which means the people that already sent their submission can send a new one if they want. I even posted my entry in the WIP forum because of that .
  10. I've been working on a "metal" remix of the theme of the Gestahl Empire for zircon's FFVI contest. This is my first remix so any comments/suggestions are really appreciated. Link: http://soundcloud.com/jnwake/empire-of-metahl . Source: .The arrangement is pretty much done though I'm always open for any advice!
  11. http://ocremix.org/artist/5041/prince-of-darkness This guy has some cool Rock/Metal remixes. I hope to appear on that list in the future too...
  12. One of my favourite soundtracks is the one from Mother 3. This underrated game is one of the most emotional RPGs I've played, and a big part of that is due to the amazing soundtrack. Now I'll show some of the songs I like, even though I recommend listening to the entire OST, since it is just awesome. It makes me sad that there isn't a single OCRemix of this game. - Nice piano version of one of the main themes of the game. - This game is notable (like Earthbound) for having many different battle themes. This is the theme of the first big boss of the game. - Dat organ. - I like this theme because of the instruments it uses. - Song from one of the saddest parts of the game. - One of the coolest battle themes of the game. - Chiptune madness! - Ending theme.Sorry for putting so many tracks, but the OST has 245 amazing tunes
  13. I like the sound but the arrangement sticks way too close to the original source. Also, I feel the low guitars don't add much. This song is very very happy and your mix keeps the happiness, so the low chords sound quite odd.
  14. I still love how it sounds. The vocal samples are pretty cool (in the beggining). Maybe adding a ragtime-ish piano to some sections would be a good idea (?), even if it already sounds badass.
  15. I'm almost done with mine. I'll probably submit it during the weekend since there is stuff I want to polish though.
  16. I really liked this. Style was unexpected for this track and fits incredibly well. Anyway, I like the mixing except two things: the sound of the train (even the one from the game sounds better imo) and the beggining is quite muddy.
  17. It's a shame nobody decided to tackle Cleyra's Trunk, Salamander's Theme (I'm assuming this is Amarant's theme) and the Chocobo theme. I'm not really good at producing so I sadly don't think I'd be able to attempt any of those, but maybe somebody notices them now! Also, I miss Gargan Roo in the tracklist
  18. Thanks for the quick answer! I'll try the tips you suggested. I don't really know how to do this sidechaining stuff but I have time to learn! I'll check your guide too.
  19. I've recently started learning how to do production and mastering and I have some questions. 1. I am working on a song and it is quite near the 0dB border, getting a bit past it in some notes. The thing is that when I listen to my song and then to a well mixed song, I notice the well mixed song sounds louder than mine. From what I've read here, maybe removing some unused frequencies should help me, but I'm not sure. Am I right? On another note, I've not used a compressor on the master track, but I think I should avoid that until the mixing sounds good by itself. 2. The other thing I've noticed is that other mixes sound very sharp, and even though mine doesn't sound muddy or anything, it is less sharp than other mixes (maybe using free samples works against me, but I think there's a better explanation ). Any tips on that? Any help is appreciated!
  20. Nobody mentioned the small nod to Symphony X's Divine Wings of Tragedy just before the Dream Theater's Metropolis bass riff. Also, whoever played the Black Light Machine solo really nailed it. I love the sound of the guitars in this mix. So badass.
  21. There isn't that much metal in general here in OCR anyway. I would call myself a "metal" composer, but certainly not symphonic.
