  1. "Pairings: I'm going to assume that the Novices will outnumber the Stars. I'll determine who gets a slot based on the following criteria, in decreasing order: Put their name up in the original thread and does not express a preference for a Star. After establishing the list of participants, each Novice will be paired with their first choice Star." This is quite odd, how are you assigning the Star for Novices with no preference?
  2. This is a nice idea! I think the tempo is fine. Making it slower would probably make it a bit dull. My biggest complain is the lack of high notes, but you explain that on your post. If you manage to get female voices in the arrangement, it'd be very interesting. Some harmonies sound weird, but I guess (hope) they are because of the performance. I like how you sing the low notes. I have a bit of a hard time hearing the sources around the middle of the song too, but I'm not sure if that part is the Requiem or the Serenade. Anyway, this is cool and I'll be waiting for a second version!
  3. I'd have never expected to find something like this here lol. Sinergia is actually a pretty popular rock band here in Chile. They call their style "Metal Pajarito", which literally translates to "Birdie Metal". It's quite unlikely that the band themselves uploaded this song here though, but you never know. P.D. If you liked this song, check other songs by these guys (you can find more in Youtube): - .- .- .They are a fun band, with quite an interesing take on metal music. Drums and bass are amazing in most of their songs.
  4. Ignoring the orchestal passages, this song has quite an Alejandro Silva feel to it. Especially the beautiful section at 5:40. Amazing song!
  5. That's the closest thing we have to an objective measure of the musical expertise of the users... I think.
  6. I wonder why everyone takes the time to respond to people that are clearly trying to start a flame war. The situation is quite sad. The guy that tried to get on the stage was clearly wrong but some people try to make it like he deserved to die in order to defend the musician. I'm not familiar with the name of law charges in english so I hope the guy isn't punished harshly.
  7. I study engineering and do music as a hobby. I'm so far from getting paid for my music that it's quite sad though.
  8. It has sequel potential. A true sequel I mean, not Paper Mario or the other games. They are fun but I want something that is more of a classic RPG.
  9. Lol I was expecting the same thing. The questions asked are interesting though
  10. The beggining is quite pretty, I like the samples you used. I don't think the source appears before the 1:30 mark, right? Anyway, when the source appears I notice that some chords drag on a bit. For example, when doing the traditional B-A-F melody, you use the same chord for 3 bars. Maybe using it for 2 bars and then changing to a lower chord would sound better. At the 2:05 mark, you could try adding something new. Maybe make the bass change the rhytm a bit, otherwise it doesn't feel that the song is changing. Overall, I think this song is very pretty sounding, but you could use more variation. Magellanic suggested more dynamic changes, and I think that's what this song needs to be even better. P.D. Your other remixes are nice too. I love your "ambient" take on the Majora classics!
  11. Interesting take on the song! A few comments: - The snare is quite high-pitched, it doesn't sound powerful at all. - The lead at the beggining is quite tiring. You could try switching it with another lead in some passages (tbh the sound of this lead irks me a bit, but I guess it's part of this style). - Talking about overhaul, the section beggining at 3:50 could be changed a lot. This type of effect has been used quite a bit on the song already, so you could try introducing a different type of sample. Maybe even a regular piano sound? - Section beggining at 4:25 is quite cool, specially since that lead isn't the center of the song there! I don't like fade-outs though I think you could use more variety in the leads/samples and this could become an amazing song! So far it's good but a bit tiring.
  12. I don't know much about this style of music but I have a few comments: - The "heavy" section starting at 1:00 (app.) feels a bit repetitive, since we've heard the low-life sound quite a bit, and there's nothing really interesting there. It becomes really cool when the lead kicks in though. - The snare... I feel like it doesn't fit. It is too soft. You need a "harsher" snare for this song imo. - The change to a faster pace is quite cool, but like someone said, it feels a bit repetitive. Overall, I think this is quite a nice song. I'd mainly work on the repetitiveness and on the snare.
  13. I didn't think Earthbound was sad at all, but the final battle is kind of overwhelming. (SPOILERS) The Prayer mechanic and all that stuff was amazing. It's one of the best final battles I can think of. It clearly inspired Mother 3's one, with the fact that you had to beat it without even attacking your enemy.
  14. I don't think I've cried but there have been some sad moments: Mother 3 (SPOILERS): - Hinawa's death so early in the game, plus Flint's reaction... Sad moment. - The last battle of the game is sad too. Some of the messages that appear during the battle are depressing, like when Lucas can't hit Claus, the flashback with the babies, Flint almost dying and finally Claus commiting suicide... I find it sadder when I remember it than when I actually played though, not sure why.
  15. The first part is indeed a bit cover-ish, but it works nicely. I think the guitar sounds too dry though, maybe add a bit of delay or reverb? If you want to avoid the "cover-ness", you could try adding more little stuff to the piano lines. More fills and little alterations to the original melody. I like the introduction of the bass (it sounds like a song from Yoshi's Island lol). I feel the piano is a bit too quiet on this section though. The ending doesn't convince me much. Bass just disappears and the fade out in the drums is a bit odd. Maybe you could keep the bass and start upping the piano's volume slowly, because it is too quiet at the end.
  16. Part 3 is here: http://web.archive.org/web/20100728080540/http://www.zirconstudios.com/tutorial3.php . And Part 4 too: http://web.archive.org/web/20080731175104/http://www.zirconstudios.com/tutorial4.php . Part 5 is ded.
  17. Judging by your first posts, the project will have like 5/6 CDs though. I just hope the number of tracks doesn't make this project unfinishable
  18. I see the novice-expert relationship as someone that can give you tips in different areas. For example, I think I'm good enough at arranging and composing (though I'm always open for advice!), but I'd really really benefit from having someone help me with the production, since I don't know many tricks and there's probably many tools and stuff that I don't even know they exist.
  19. No problem, I wasn't even sure I actually sent the PM, but I hope I did
  20. I (think) I sent a PM to Emunator regarding a concept idea I had for the Legend of Hyrule track. Sadly, I got no response. Is the track taken?
  21. I also want to be in as novice. I think my earlier post didn't state that clearly
  22. I hope the project gets accepted, though the huge number of planned tracks may play against our favor.
  23. I thought forum discussions couldn't be more worthless... Anyway, I hope the revealing of new characters starts soon, it's one of the most interesting parts of the game after all.
  24. This is a cool idea... Novices are excited, so I hope Stars participate too!
