What's the longest you've gone without doing music?
Bejack replied to mickomoo's topic in Music Composition & Production
About 2 years myself for several reasons including depression and huge lack of inspiration... hope that doesn't happen again. -
That Batman Arkham City song was as interesting as some of The Dark Knight OST material. Why does almost everything that has the Batman name on it is awesome. Not talking about you mister Kilmer and Clooney... Anyway how about from Dragon Quest VIII?

Some of the video game music that i feel is most expressive to me are from the game Rygar for playstation 2 and the to the Snes game Terranigma. That song is always a 6 minutes that feel good.Edit : Forgot to mention that i really liked that Starcraft II theme.

FL Studio Remix Gauntlet -- Round 8 starts now, Round 6 results
Bejack replied to Jason Covenant's topic in Competitions
I have a question for you. I have been trying to download the FL projects of some mixes to learn a few things and every time i click on a link, http://jasoncovenant.com/FLSRG/FLSRG%20-%20Round%208.rar for example, all i get is "pageok" written in the top left corner of the page. Can't save either by right clicking and choosing "save link as..." I have tired this for round 7 and round 8. Is it down or am i doing something wrong? -
Thanks a bunch for those links i've been listenening to www.di.fm all morning. This is good to incorporate variety into the music that i usually listen to.

How do you feel towards your own music?
Bejack replied to Bejack's topic in Music Composition & Production
Yes i totally agree with you. I do like my music for a short time but i seem to grow tired of it faster than any other music i listen to. Maybe i should make a playlist of all of my songs and listen to them and feel happy/proud of what i have accomplished so far and how i have gotten better with time. Maybe i should not compare my work too much with top notch productions as to not get discouraged. I should rather say " I made a song and i can see that i am not there yet. This is what i am aiming for, this is where i am going, a little bit at a time". Maybe i should walk instead of run. Maybe i should look at the journey and not the destination. Maybe i should stop thinking about all that and just do some music. I think it's time to change the word "should" for "will". P.S. I apologize if my open thinking was boring. -
How do you feel towards your own music?
Bejack replied to Bejack's topic in Music Composition & Production
Same here and i suppose that in a few months/years i will have the same thoughts about the music i am making today because hopefully i will keep getting better as i go along. It's kind of a vicious circle though and at some point i will have to be more objective as well and tell myself "well that was not bad at all" or "hey part of that song really rocked" instead of having this weird feeling that something has got to be "automatically" wrong... Maybe i need another "over the years" and see how that goes. You don't sound arrogant at all. I really liked your post and sounds to me like you are very proud of your music which is a good thing. Yeah sometimes things sound awesome in my head as well but it doesn't translate as well to the DAW. I guess this means more practice is and always will be necessary. About 1), i have seen the difference between people who awkwardly tell me "yeah it's ok" compared to my work buddies that showed more interest and they instigated discussions about my music which was nice but weird for me. I think it is related to your second point as to the way they approached it compared to the way i do. I don't see you coming as harsh at all and your input can help me see things differently Don't give up. I used to take criticism the wrong way when i began uploading my stuff on newgrounds (a long time ago). Even the most constructive criticism. I on the other hand have very few unfinished projects, i don't like to leave things hanging and i am to stubborn to not finish a project but there are exceptions. Like that chrono trigger thing i tried a few months ago that was very bad. From time to time my brain still sends me "musical information" about that attempted remix and other ways i could do that song. It's not really my business but i think you should finish those projects you got, they could end up totally different than how you started. Thanks everyone for your input and if you have more feel free to share -
I don't know where to start with this train of thoughts i have right now so i suppose i'll start with my job... So at work there are these 3 guys to whom i told i make music as a hobby and they asked me to listen to it so i gave them a usb stick with what i considered my better stuff. I wasn't really expecting anything at all but they came back to me the day after and they told me that it was awesome and they liked it a lot (no they were not playing a bad joke on me ). But in my mind i'm like "it's not that great if you would listen to other instrumental music out there you would know". I politely say "thank you i'm glad you appreciate it" even though i don't really share this feeling of my music being awesome. I like to make music. I know i'm not very good but composing music is something constructive i can do with my time and when i finish a project i have a bit of satisfaction. I don't mind uploading my music on the web for the whole world to listen to but i'm extremely shy and nervous when i show it to people i personally know. Part of that must be from a lack of confidence about my music making skills. Another thing that i have been thinking is maybe because i create the track from scratch i don't like it as much as they do because i'm not discovering anything new. You know like new music is always fun to listen to because you discover something different. Usually i am happy with a new track i have made for a couple of days, sometimes weeks but then i get bored of it and i want to create something new again. This might come off as "weepy" if i can use that term but let me assure you i am not in that state of mind at all. I just think alot about the things i do. Maybe my fear of rejection from my peers is greater than i think it is. Maybe i'm being too harsh on myself. Maybe i think too much... So i would like to know how you girls and guys feel about your own music. Do you present your music with a ton of confidence, almost in a cocky way i could say, do you present it like you would any other song or do you not present it at all to people you know and keep your music a private thing? Was there ever a time where you felt something similar than what i have described? If so how did you deal with it?

finished The Darkness Approaches (Boss Battle Theme)
Bejack replied to Garoad's topic in Post Your Original Music!
This was interesting, the only thing i didn't enjoy much was the choir that played alongside the organ and strings from 0:22 to 0:43 and again at a later part. This reminded of Breath of Fire 3 but i might have been brainwashed by that picture -
This is really nice, i like the feathers that you put here and there but i especially like the face and the hair. The hair has a natural "in the wind" look in my opinion.

Hi i just made this song called Neon Blue. This is the first song i make using my new pc and komplete 9, it took me a good while to make it but the learning of komplete 9 is a good experience. Also this is the first time that i send every single instrument to its own mixer channel and i put parametric eq 2 on everything to try and make the song sound better. I hope it worked. Any feedback/criticism is appreciated. Thanks for listening

Final Fantasy VIII : made it to the part where you enter Edea's palace never played after that. Mega Man X7 : A complete turnoff for me, didn't like the gameplay and didn't like the new character Axl. Finally there is Treasures of the Rudra that has 4 different stories, 3 with a main character and the fourth one reunites them. It was super fun but really long.

Beginner That Would Love Some Feedback
Bejack replied to AronKramer's topic in Post Your Original Music!
To me you don't sound like a beginner so i would like it if you could tell me a bit about your background: have you studied in music, how long have you been composing and what hardware/software you use? I listened to a couple of your songs and i really liked what i heard. -
How long does it take before auto-disconnect?
Bejack replied to Bejack's topic in Site Issues & Feedback
So i tried this with my phone and got disconnected as well after a few minutes so it wasn't my antivirus... It really is the fact that i didn't click the "save?" box before login in... I just never knew what exactly it wanted to save so i never clicked it... facepalm. I did try other sites like ebay where i didn't click the "keep me signed in" box but i never got disconnected. Anyway thank you for fixing this problem with me -
How long does it take before auto-disconnect?
Bejack replied to Bejack's topic in Site Issues & Feedback
Ah yes... it must be my antivirus software (Bitdefender). It's not my internet connection as other sites where i log in i stay logged in until i disconnect manually but i will test this further. It's not really a big problem since i don't post a lot but a few times where it takes me more than a couple of minutes to write something i just copy my text to make sure i don't lose it when i press submit. Thank you all for the quick replies -
Hi i was wondering how long before the system disconnects me automatically because i really like to open new tabs to read the topics that interests me. I know that if i don't do that i will forget stuff that i wanted to read but after like 10 minutes or so i get disconnected. Is it like this for everyone that are idle?

I like this one too. I really like the integration of sound effects you did here especially at around 1:03 and 1:43. At around 1:08 to 1:13 i think i hear some static crackling like noise. The change of tempo for the last part is very nice, it's like a banquet/waltz thing going on.
-
First off i think that the synth at the beginning of the song and the hi hats are a bit too loud. Also the second bass note that plays sounds as if you have 2 notes playing at the same time. Other than that it's good. I enjoyed the low "synth strings" that played from about 0:55 onwards and the melody that played at 2:03 was a nice variation.

Super i really enjoyed it. Is there piano and electric guitar playing at the same time or is there and effect on the piano? In the first 20 seconds i think i hear guitar only and then on the second part the piano seems louder/less subtle. I really liked when the brass kicks in. Made me think of some Transformers scene or something, good job.

Don't give up, you're doing 2 great things at once : fighting your fears and playing a very good game.

I would really like to listen to it but i can't access your song.

finished "707 Years" (Korg 707 Showcase track)
Bejack replied to RoBKTA's topic in Post Your Original Music!
Very 80's indeed. In my mind i see the opening credits to a cop show. Two cops trying to look bad ass, catch a thief, have a hotdog, missed high five, laugh it off, etc. Good stuff. -
Reminds me of something like mega man zero/zx from the main base/airship theme. Very relaxing and "light hearted" easy to listen to music. Around the 2:30 mark there is something that sounds like nylon guitar and saxophone playing at the same time (i could be wrong here), it was interesting
