  1. What's not to like about this ReMix? First off, this was my favorite area in Rygar because of the music. I particularly enjoy the piano and brass here. I never thought that 4 minutes could fly by so fast. Amazing work!
  2. Super creative ReMix and very fun to listen to. Nice orchestral intro to throw me off at 0:27 with this western arrangement. Now I can only picture Rygar wearing a cowboy hat.
  3. I love this song! My favorite part is 2:16 to 2:50 and crazy solo
  4. So I actually decided to get myself a MIDI keyboard and I was happy to play with it in FL Studio. I made a song called The Road to Freedom and I would really appreciate any kind of feedback about it.
  5. I was surprised when a techno-ish beat started at 0:34 because the beginning of the song didn't lead me into thinking that at all. Then from 1:25 to 1:47 is a beautiful piano and strings composition, really inspiring. Then that techno thing comes back. Maybe I have problems with it because of the mixing of two very different styles. The key change at 2:29 is a nice touch. I kind of have mixed feelings about the song as a whole but I keep playing that piano part 1:25 - 1:47 again and again though
  6. I really like how you varied your main synths all throughout the song and it kept it fresh/interesting. The phoenix sound is cool but I really think it's overused. Personally I find that these kind of effects are most effective when used once or twice per song so they don't lose their appeal. The drums seem too soft in some parts and overpowered by all the synths you have but that could be a problem (headphones) on my end though. I really like the wobbles you have here and there. The part starting at 3:23 to 4:13 was my favorite As for genre, I'm of the worst to say anything, heck I upload 95% of my music in the miscellaneous section on Newgrounds. I will have to learn about genres. Very good song, I like your style.
  7. Very good. I think your music captures the feeling pretty accurately about a "Darkwoods Manor". The piano chords when used as background to the strings works nicely but when the piano becomes the main focus at 1:10 - 1:30 and again at 2:42 - 3:02 feels a little off because all the notes are playing at the same volume. Playing with the velocity a little in these parts might make an interesting difference. Also have you tried using other instruments like tremolo strings to give it more of an eerie feeling and maybe some horns/brass to give it a little more power, but not everywhere just little tidbits here and there. I really like that flute section.
  8. I like the concept and I really wish you manage to record this with real instruments. I personally didn't feel it as a rock/pop song mainly because you have some flute/whistle playing which to me gives it a more fantastic/pirate/folkish type of music so that's why I would like to hear it with real instruments. I've also listened to some of your other songs and enjoyed "Get serious", "Facing an enemy", "Composition, finished". Keep it up
  9. I really enjoy this track and I listen to it pretty often! There's only one thing that feels weird to me and it's at ~4:25. It feels as the melody just gets cut halfway through and it really surprised me at first. Everything else is superb!
  10. What Meteo Xavier said, but and old working collegue of mine, of the few people I gave a listen to my music in person, said that there was the distinctive touch of melancholy in pretty much all the music I made. I've started work on a project recently and I'm pretty sure it's melancholy material, I suppose that's my style for now...
  11. Hmm yes. I too feel this Daft Punk thing going on a little here in this ReMix. My friend used to have this game. There weren't enough obstacles in this game so they had to put good music like this to have me lose focus just enough to get killed Nice work on this ReMix. Although the original song is short, you kept it interesting so that it didn't feel to repetitve. Brings back some good memories of this game.
  12. Thanks for that suggestion, but I haven't found any akai synthstation 25 for 19$ on the guitar center website. Maybe that was just an in-store special offer. Prices range around 70 canadian dollars for that synth pretty much everywhere I have checked. Another option could be the Korg Nanokey2 (50$) but like timaeus mentions if this is going to be unpleasant because I might have buffer underruns and/or latency issues because my computer is too old then it's worth waiting for something good. My main objective will be to have as much fun as possible. I thought the midi keyboard could have been a decent temporary solution. I suppose I will think about it for a while...
  13. Great ReMix! I really enjoy the piano work in this song, segments like 4:06 - 4:17 for example. Also the harp sounds a lot like the original sound from the Snes, from what I remember. I like that, it brings back good memories of playing Lufia and Lufia II.
  14. Hi, so I'm just very eager right now to get back into music composing after a long break... But I consider myself in a dilemma, let me explain. I really want to buy a workstation, one that has good quality sounds, entry level because I'm just an amateur. My budget for that would be around 1200$. So I was thinking Yamaha MOX6 but I would only be able to buy that in about a year maybe more, time to save up the money. On the other hand I was thinking to get a midi keyboard like the Acorn 49 or 61 MIDI controller or the M-Audio Oxygen 49 because it is not too costly. This option would only be to sooth my needs to make music until I can buy the aforementioned workstation. Now I won't mind using a MIDI controller and the mid-awful sounds I have on my hard drive for the time being. My concern using this method is about latency because my computer is very old. My computer is a single core 2ghz, 1gig of ram running windows XP. I have an external sound card but it doesn't have a usb or midi port on it and I have been reading about latency when the sound has to "travel" through the computer. I know I will have to build myself a new computer when the time (and money) comes. So should I just wait it out and buy the workstation with a new computer when the time comes (1 year and maybe even more) or can I get myself a MIDI keyboard, expect things to go well even with my old pc and not be frustrated/regretting my decision. I don't want to make a false move and spend money that I can save up for better equipment but on the other hand my patience is getting thin. I have already been waiting for 2 or so years to buy a keyboard but life has been full of surprises, ups and downs and this desire/need to make music is just burning from the inside. I don't want to do everything in FL with just the mouse, I have done that for about 5 years and it just turns me off. I start working on something but after a while I just get bored and exit FL Studio. Thanks for your time.
  15. Very good piano arrangement! I remember when I got this game I had the Killer Cuts CD that came with it and this was one of my favorite tracks. That CD may still be somewhere in my belongings... Anyways, I really like what you have done here, for a piano only arrangement i believe you have captured the essence of the original which is a full orchestrated song, not an easy task. Personally I would have ended the song on that chord at 3:15 but other than that I really enjoy this ReMix.
  16. Really enjoyable piece of orchestral music here! The only thing I did not enjoy at around 2:24 was those plucked strings? (really hoping that's the right term) This brings back good memories of a game that was too hard for me when I was a kid
  17. Grandiose! I don't know what else to say. I would really enjoy hearing this song in a future Castlevania game, that's how epic this song is.
  18. This is truly amazing and inspiring! I really love the intro, how it sets up the atmosphere. I also really liked the low piano notes around 1:45 and later on, very nice touch. Starting at 3:39 until the end, this feels very Metroid-esque to me, which is not a bad thing.
  19. Hi, I don't have a lot of experience with the technical stuff so I'll leave that to someone else but I'm going to give you my opinion as a simple listener. I think you have built a solid "core" but its lacking/missing something. Although you have some degree of variation in your song i think that it is too repetitive. I think that you can expand on your ReMix. Maybe have a section where you go all out, do a solo with some instrument and bring in more of your personal touch/creativity. Once again, this is just my view on it. I hope it helps you and good luck
  20. I'm really liking this ReMix and how it keeps the original feel of the source. I especially enjoyed the section starting at 2:05.I'm not a big fan of the ending but it doesn't take anything away from your awesome work
  21. I absolutely love this song! I never get bored of listening to it. I would never have expected such a big beat, adrenaline pumping bad ass mix coming from such a short source but you managed to make a 4.5 minutes long mix that doesn't get boring at all.
  22. A friend introduced me to FL Studio some 10 years ago, i was about 19 or 20 years old. I then composed for a few years on and off to have some fun and compare with my friend what we had made. I also remember when i was like 9 years old my parents bought me a mini keyboard i used to play all the time in the car when going from one place to another.
  23. First off I'd like to say that it's very interesting to listen to everyone's music, their different styles and where they are coming from. I like to think that this piece doesn't suck (very repetitive though). After that song, it was all a big roller coaster ride with some good and some ugly song making. I haven't been able to be consistent in song creation. Going back to listen to my music I realize that I have some "potent" ideas and that I have to work harder (a lot) to express them to a better extent. Thanks for listening
  24. Well, I'm not usually fond of vocals in a ReMix but I must say that I have been pleasantly surprised with the whole Balance & Ruin album. The vocals are simply beautiful as is the composition. Both complement themselves perfectly. This will sound cheesy but I just love those lyrics : "And I promise to be what fate asks of me." I don't know why but they just stuck with me ever since I heard them... Anyway, all this to say that I really really like this song.
  25. Awesome arrangement! Ocean palace is probably my favorite song from Chrono Trigger and the mix with Schala's theme works really well. I'm definitely adding this to my playlist. More please
