Hi, i listened to your song Dead Night. I like how you used different drum samples throughout the song. I didn't really enjoy the "ghostly choir" thing especially on higher notes. Everything else i really enjoyed. The song has a certain Castlevania-esque feeling to it that i really liked.

finished The Gum Tree (mystical, cinematic)
Bejack replied to Neifion's topic in Post Your Original Music!
I really like this, it holds itself very well together, nothing seems out of place. The only thing i think i can point out is that at around 0:45 there is a piano or string instrument in the background that is hard to hear. You create a very nice atmosphere, it's a shame it is so short. -
wip Early WIP Chrono Trigger - Undersea Palace
Bejack replied to Bejack's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
First off i want to thank you guys for dropping by and leaving comments, after a few weeks without replies i was pretty sure i wouldn't get any feedback at all. I did go back to this project to and try and make the bass sound better and add a little reverb to the symbals and a tiny bit to the drums. Reverb and EQ are things i will have to learn. I am reading or watching videos every now and then about music theory but right now i am at the very basic beginning watching PianoVideoLessons on Youtube. If there is any Schala reference in my loop it is totally unintentional. I only used the Undersea Palace song as inspiration but then again in Chrono Trigger there are a few songs that seem to share the same "master melody" if i can phrase it that way. If it is from the piano i took the synth pattern from the Undersea Palace theme and made a simpler pattern from it. If it's not from the piano then my limited knowledge doesn't allow me to hear the resemblance, yet. I couldn't hear any discordance at 0:08 until i started isolating instruments one by one and found out my strings were playing D and the piano was C# (hope i'm saying this correctly). The bass is still playing C# but it doesn't sound bad to my ears, is it because it is a few octaves lower or are my ears not well trained enough? I tried composing and intro but it didn't sound nice and was too repetitive so i've reuploaded the same loop (updated link in the first post) with a few modifications based on feedback. I dont' have a lot of time/energy to put into making music right now as i have been working anywhere between 53 to 65 hours a week for the past 2 months. I expect it to be that way for a few more weeks but it's a good thing since i plan to get new gear and software. -
Hi! It's another short list of songs i hope you find interesting/inspiring that i would like to hear remixed. Cosmo Police Galivan - Area 2 i'm not sure about the name of the track. It is Area 2 in the game. I couldn't find the information.

So i was thinking of adding a solid state drive to my build and i was wondering what was the best thing to put on it, is it better to put the OS on the SSD or is it better to put FL Studio/Natvie Instruments software or the vst/libraries of sound? I will also have a 1TB drive that i will fraction into 2 or 3 partitions depending on what i put on the SSD. Also just wanted to tell you that i have decided against buying nexus 2 and going for komplete 9 instead. I know that i am ahead of time because i am planning this for the month of May but i guess i'm just really looking forward to it
-
I have checked Sampletank 2 and i didn`t really liked what i have heard compared to nexus 2 or komplete 9. Maybe Sampletank 3 will be awesome, who knows? If everything goes according to plan i should be able to buy my new computer during the month of May and buy whatever software i will have chosen a few weeks after that. So until then i will be keeping an eye on the "software deals thread" and if anything else comes to mind feel free to let me know. Thanks everyone for your input

So i am going to combine 2 topics in one here and i would like your opinion on a couple of things. First off i want to get myself a new custom built pc for everyday use but also for music making. I want something that will last me a good 6 to 8 years just like my current pc (2.01 GHz single core, 2 gig ram, 256 meg video card) has lasted me for way longer than i have expected (close to 11 years). So i was thinking of buying an amd 8 cores pc @ 4 GHz with 24 gigs of ram and a 1 gig nvidia video card. Question 1 : how do you feel about this being a long lasting pc and a good choice for amateur music making? Question 2 : should i get at least a 2 gig video card even though i don't plan on playing many games and no new games? Let's say i would probably play a little bit of minecraft every now and then. For the second part i need advice on music software/hardware. When i first came to OCR i had an objective in mind and that was to buy a yamaha motif keyboard. Currently i am aiming for the moxf6. The main reason why i wanted to buy the keyboard was because of the quality samples (well to me anyway they sound awesome compared to my soundfonts). But a few days ago i was watching some FL Studio videos on Youtube and i stumbled upon something called Nexus 2 by reFX and i was thinking to myself that this sounds as good if not better than the sounds from the moxf6. The price of the mofx (in canadian dollars) is 1250$ while the basic nexus patch (offering 1100 samples) is like 300$. This money saved could be used for other music related things or not. I would like to mention that i already own a midi keyboard at this point (a cheap one but still i think it fulfills my beginner's needs). Question 3: Does buying the Nexus 2 vst or something similar like Zebra2 is better than getting a synth/workstation if i dont do any live music? Question 4: Does buying the Nexus 2 gives me all the samples that i need to make full songs, including drums? Because i've been listening to the 20 minute long nexus demo on soundcloud and the majority of what i heard were synths, basses, guitars, pianos and other instruments but not much on the drums part... Question 5: If it doesn't come with drums can you recommend another software that would cover pretty much all types of drums? If you have any other advice that you think might be important or if you need more details please don't hesitate to ask me. I would really hate to make a very costly mistake if a synthesizer is not the way to go. Thank you

Bejack replied to timaeus222's topic in Music Composition & Production
So i downloaded them all (took a long time) and i tried about 60% of them. So far i like ambient organ, darkworld, dream 1 and m12 strings. -

I'll give it a shot at testing but i don't have enough musical knowledge to share with you guys what is good or not so i'll just pick what i think "sounds" nice. I hope this gets my inspirtaion back up a little bit. Thanks for sharing -
Hi! So this is a very early/short WIP/attempt. I have a tried a couple of things but nothing that i liked. Any feedback is appreciated. I'm realising that i don't know my DAW very much. Particular things that i would like to know are : how the composition sounds, are the samples used of mediocre/bad/good quality. What you like and don't like about it. I know it's short and very close to the source. My attempt Thanks for your time.

Workshop Discussion and Guidelines (read before posting!)
Bejack replied to halc's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
If my WIP is only 30 some seconds long and i'm all out of motivation/inspiration right now is it still worth it to post it and ask for some feedback or is it better to move on to another project and post something complete at a later time? -

OCR TF2 Server - Anyone interested in trying out TF2 should join us!
Bejack replied to Bahamut's topic in General Discussion
Hello, so i downloaded Steam and TF2, played for a few hours offline with some bots, read the beginner's faq written by Evertsen on the Steam forums and would really like to try this online if you guys are noob friendly/tolerant. The last fps i have played were battlefield 2 and Counter-Strike some 7-8 years ago. I have and old pc and my frames per second are not great, average between 20-40, but nonetheless this seems really a fun game. -
1. Work as many hours as possible to save money for a synthesizer/workstation. 2. Buy a new desktop computer (this one is 10 years old) 3. Learn how to efficiently use my DAW. 4. Learn some music terminology. 5. Learn some music theory. 6. Take some piano lessons if it fits in my budget and schedule. 7. Make a song that i will enjoy for more than a few weeks after it's finished. 8. Immerse myself in new music genres like blues, big band etc. The style of music i've briefly listened to before. I'm sure it will broaden my horizons and give me more inspiration when composing.

Hi, here are a few songs i would like to suggest and maybe see ReMixed one day First off . The source is very short though, about 19 seconds so i don't know how much potential it has towards a ReMix.Next i would like to suggest .Staying with the Lufia games but this time .And finally for a source that has never been ReMixed before, you've probably never heard of this game at all . This one i would liked to see ReMixed in a very particular style. Please listen this version of . In my mind i see the melody from Ocean Palace fitting very nicely on a beat like Omen. This is an idea that has been stirring in my mind for a while but at the pace that i'm evolving as a musician it won't be done in forever. Maybe one day i will tackle this project but for now i would really like to see it be done by a skilled composer. Thanks for your time

Which VGM was the first that really made you listen?
Bejack replied to Eino Keskitalo's topic in General Discussion
Well some games from the NES era was where it all began for me when I was a kid. Games like Mega Man II and III had/has awesome music. Contra as well (waterfall stage comes instantly to mind). That song from Rygar : Cavern of the Sagila. Super Mario Bros. 2 Main Theme. Oh and Ninja Gaiden 2 opening sequence. I could name so many more... -
Domain Registration Email: is this legit?
Bejack replied to Patrick Burns's topic in General Discussion
Fun fact : in the French language the word " escroc " (the last c is mute) pretty much pronounced like escrow means crook, scammer. As for reading through this whole thread, the ending really leaves me speechless and confused... -
Hi, so i did another song a while back and would appreciate some feedback on it. More importantly i would really appreciate help with volume levels (mastering?). I am only using headphones when making music and not the best quality brand/model out there so i would really like to know how things sound from someone else's point of view. Here's the link http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/549282 I also have to come up with better song titles

Fit Club ahoy! Where men are bros and women are also bros!
Bejack replied to OceansAndrew's topic in General Discussion
Hi, I haven't worked out in some time but here is a list of music that I used to listen to when working out. 1. Rage Against the Machine - Know Your Enemy 2. Matallica - No Leaf Clover 3. The Prodigy - Omen 4. Oasis - Falling Down (The Prodigy Remix) 5. Ronald Jenkees - From the Arrow Loop 6. The Indigy - Apache* 7. tefnek - Contra Snow Field OC ReMix 8. The Prodigy - Voodoo People (Pendulum Remix) 9. Dj Dain - Robot Rock It Over Baghdad 10. Daft Punk - Televison Rules the Nation, Crescendolls * There are 2 versions of this song. The you can find on Youtube and on The Indigy's official website. There is another version that you can also find on Youtube that will appear under "Indigy - Apache" with a background image of The Prodigy (I know it doesn't mean anything it's just a pic) but it definitely sounds like a remix, maybe by The Prodigy (who knows)... I can't find any information on The Prodigy's offcial website though... Anyway, I use the second version. I feel it has more power to it, you'll see if you check out both. Hope that helps -
I would have to say Minecraft as well because you have so many choices of how you want to live your life. You can live in a village, you can harvest crops or go fishing. You can explore the overworld or dig deep underground, build anything that comes to mind. The possibilities are vast. If not I would say Chrono Trigger just because when the time comes to start over I can choose New Game +

This was a very pleasant listen. I absolutely love the Mega Man games on the Snes and I enjoy pretty much all the music from the games. Alright so here are the few comments I wrote down while listening to your album. Introduction: The first fifty seconds sound too long and a bit repetitive to my taste and I think it could be cut down by half. The rest is very nice though. Prologue Stage: I really enjoyed that song. So far it's my favorite. Stage Select : It's ok but I think it's lacking a big drum beat, as it is I don't think/feel Mega Man stage select when I hear it. Venom Viper: This sounds like a boss battle theme in my opinion. Maverick Battle : Sounds like it could be used when X confronts Vile or when you have a dialogue talking to Sigma or something like that. Wild Ranger : I'm really enjoying this one as well. It's a contender for favorite. Dr. Light : This theme fits its purpose very well. I can picture Dr. Light telling X to enter the capsule for a toothbrush upgrade Sigma's Fortress -Hangar Approach- : I really like the dark/sinister tone this one sets up for the Sigma Fortress. I am replaying the stage in my head when listening to this and it would fit perfectly. Sigma's Fortress -Power Facility- : I have mixed feelings as I like about 2/3 of the song but the other third feels as if it was part of another song to me. Sigma Battle : This one deserves a big beat drum as well. Sigma Battle -Virus- : I think of Castlevania when I listen to it and the parts like 0:19 to 0:30 reminds me of Act Raiser for some strange reason. I like this! Epilogue : Didn't feel it at first but at about one minute into the song it is very good, spot on. Staff Roll : This could also be used as the Epilogue theme. It's very good but the style doesn't feel like a Mega Man Staff Roll song to me. It's not as energetic and upbeat. Usually the Staff Roll sounds more positive or "looking towards tomorrow" type. Bonus Stage -Genetics Factory- : I think this is from the Nes days now but I don't remember exactly what it is. Is it Dr. Cossack or Mr. X stage 1 or something? Ah, the good old days. I commend you on your album release. Thank you for sharing this. My favorite remains Prologue Stage and Wild Ranger close second. You did a great job in capturing that Mega Man feeling!

MIDi keyboard recommandations and other advice.
Bejack replied to Bejack's topic in General Discussion
So I finally decided to get myself a MIDI keyboard last week. I stretched my budget a little and went for the Acorn Masterkey 49 mainly because it has 49 keys so I can play around with a lot of notes at the same time. So far so good I am having a lot of fun and working on a second song at the moment. Oh how I love that quick quantize option because recording is not super accurate but so far it's not a deal breaker. I removed the velocity curve in the MIDI controller options so I manually adjust the velocity of instruments. I have a few questions regarding other topics. 1. I would like to know what is considered a good place to upload music. Is Newgrounds a good place? Are there better options out there or is it a good idea to upload to multiple sites for better exposure? 2. My girlfriend is asking me about Christmas gifts and I was wondering if anyone had some music books about music theory or music learning they would refer as a starting point. Something from introduction level to intermediate if there is such a book or just a beginners guide. Are there exercise books as well or is it just theory and then go create type of books.
