  1. Retouched- https://soundcloud.com/yoshiblade1/test-3 Okay, now Im not yet ready to decide the fate of these strings, you the audience and you musical mavens are my yard stick, measure my talent. There is a larger point I need to address. If it seems like I may be ignoring certain suggestions believe me I am not. My DAW( Reason 7) is suffering from from severe slow downs which make it near impossible to play the whole track in Reason ( it just degrades into a garbled mess of sound) so my only option is a very time consuming mix session, hope it sounds ok, translate to Wav. format and listen, then repeat process to adjust. So if I don't address every issue, I apologize, but please stay on the point of contention, if you're not satisfied, I'm not satisfied. However, until I can find the source of the problem, it's a stick in my eye.
  2. This post may be dead!!! Hand me that defibrillator....Clear!! Retouched- https://soundcloud.com/yoshiblade1/water So dat jump and dive....put some work in to that, what do ya think? So, the mids were determined to be out of place, can anyone out there narrow down exactly what the mid problem is? Im learning as i go so, the lingo is not yet native to me. So, the fadeout has been called abrupt ( and it is) however in keeping with the gameplay first motif, the water from Zora's Domain drains into Lake Hylia, I really want to keep that going underwater and being pulled to the drain, however if it's just not happening, I'm not opposed to nixing it, any suggestions? Thanks for all the help on this one XPRTnovice!!!
  3. "and there's a weird dissonance until 2:27 that muddles the harmonies." Could you consider that a......Harmony of Dissonance Is it tonal or the beat that's causing the dissonance, or an effect I really didn't change any notes in that area, maybe the timing on a note or beat got knocked loose? I''ll get on it tonight, have a great day!
  4. I have no idea why the link was not taking you directly to the mix....my apologies Remix- https://soundcloud.com/yoshiblade1/sonic-on-the-beach
  5. retouched version- https://soundcloud.com/yoshiblade1/test The strings.....those strings.....Im 50/50 here. I like the distant incompleteness of them.....I wish I had a more Egyptian oriented string patch, the string patches I have make it sound like your jumping from a big music hall to a desert. The ones I have here sound like a lonely violinist playing in an ally way in Cairo, then jumping back to the desert...maybe not you be the judge. Nixed the popping and added some cymbal hits, a few more tweaks. *edit "1:48 has an odd click. It seems to stop when the bass stops?" Hey Timaeus, I just reread this....I'm not ignoring your suggestion or the Bass for that matter, I'm trying to making it seem like the radio is mashing the violins of the time (1920's) with the Bass-from-another-World(cue thunder FX)!!!!!!!! However if it's not happing...ok, Ill hit it on my next mix down.
  6. Thanks for the update Timaeus. While Im working on these strings, can you elaborate on the transitions that need to be addressed? maybe cite me an example of some good transitions? Im having a difficulty know what to tinker with.
  7. Ok, save for the strings, I'm gonna hit those tomorrow, how's it sounding? Better? Worse? No Different? It was terrible then and it's terrible now? Remix- https://soundcloud.com/yoshiblade1/no-4
  8. Thanks for the feedback, all of you are my guides for this fellow traveler. Yeah the hi-hats are the bane of this mix's existence, when i take them out they're the mix is flat, leave them in and it's almost like they're poking you in the ear every 1/16th beat, so Im currently retooling those,( a little echo seemed to help). Timaeus, for the mechanical and distant strings....I'm not trying to force the concept i.e. old timey (1920's or maybe 30's) radio picks up spooky radio sounds, but all the movies string/ orchestra from the 30/40's had this grainy mechanical feel to them and I was trying to emulate the zeitgeist. If they sound just plain ol' bad, then lemme know, you won't hurt my feelings:lol: and I'll have at 'em again. Does that change your feelings towards them or they are still in need of adjustment? I just don't want the concept to overshoot the mark, the mark being a pleasant listing experience. Anyway, I should have a retooled version up tonight or tomorrow. Thank YOU for taking the time to listen and I'll be back. ps, submission has been delayed, to give myself a little more time to tweak it. Here are some links to videos I found that encapsulate the feeling of the 20's and 30's strings I was aim for. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQMhFJ14hik
  9. Zelda OoT? "Serenade of Water"? 80's style solos?...."(holds empty bowl up) Please Sir...I want sum more"
  10. Thanks for the feed back Timaeus, by "OST" do you mean too distant from the source material? While I did edit a lot of the more superfluous elements, if you listen to the original track it's pretty sparse textural to begin with. The beginning I tried to make give an outdoor everyone working vibe, so I don't know how well reverb would work, but now that you pointed it out, some busy walking/working/doing villag-esque sound effects(I just gotta hunt some down) might help the mix?
  11. R.I.P Old Link. 2014-2014 Hurray New Link- https://soundcloud.com/yoshiblade1/get-back-to-work
  12. new Link- https://soundcloud.com/yoshiblade1/gremlins-new-5 I gotta just take a minute and show some appreciation from the patiences the good people here have for my shenanigan. Ya change one detail and your Soundcloud just explodes.
  13. Original- Remix- https://soundcloud.com/yoshiblade1/hail-from-the-present-45-tbp-2 So, This one's going in the queue in the next 5 days, So I need your help. If there is anything that is acting as a lead weight hold this down lemme know. If the mix was DOA lemme know. If you just don't like me and want to hurt my feelings lemme know. Seriously it's very difficult to take art, put it up, hear other artist written critiques about your art, including any technical aspects of the presentation of said art, take said input and revise your art and start the processes over again until it gains.......universal approval, general approval, Vanguard approval? So i guess what Im trying to say is, any input is vital AND Greatly Appreciated, but the hardest part for me is the taking the technical critiques and trying to engineer them to sit comfortably with the artistic inspiration...just a nagging thought that sticks in my head. As always, Thank YOU for your time to read and listen and have a great day!! ONE MORE THING!!!!! There's a mini-story behind this mix here ya go!!!! Oxford University, Suite 1987 Oxford, England Dec 5th, 1936 "Esteemed colleges, I present to you the most peculiar occurrence I can recall in all my years. Approximately 10:31 P.M. I attempted to reach Cairo Relay Station. I felt it best to contact, Dr. Carter and report on our current situation, when as quickly as I have ever seen, an errant sandstorm blew in from the East. Our radio produced nothing but static on frequencies I know to be valid, until I heard the most haunting sounds that, I should think, have ever existed. My immediate reaction was to engage my personal wire recorder and capture these bizarre sounds. The wave like squelching seems to be a warped radio signal, yet I clearly hear a violin and drums that beat with a rhythm I found to be irresistible and drives with a spirt I have not yet encountered in my travels. There seem to be an interaction between a one Jonathan and Claire and a yet unknown female ( who’s voice is like that of a siren to my ears) The strange effects, which I can only deduce are of an electronic origin (which are of no discernible origin, at least no current origin) clip and stutter, twisting the waveform of these fantastical sounds, as if one were fumbling with a tuning knob, which is very apropos, due to the nature of my interaction with this erie encounter, the likes of which may very well change not only how we Egyptologist understand this mysterious place, but our very understand of the past, present and future” Prof. Harker PhD. Esq. MD. Rev. LMNOP
  14. Original - Remix - https://soundcloud.com/yoshiblade1 Im really not sure whats going on. I just mixed this about 5 days ago, but I'm feeling like I hit a hard wall fast. I may edit this later with all the details about the inspirations, textures and ideas...but right now I'm just trying to see if it'll play in Peoria.
  15. I really didn't think I was stepping on so many toes with the playthroughs, I just prefer them because it's about the experience integrated with the art, but I apologize if I'm gumming up the works. under protest here the link
  16. Remix- https://soundcloud.com/yoshiblade1/behind-the-waterfall new link, thanks for the catch
  17. Original- 4:13 ( play-through, but needed atmosphere is key here)The guitar is buried beneath most of the mix here and is virtually nonexistent, which is strange because i poured most of my work into the guitar only to get the most necessary, yet dispensable aspect of the song...seriously I had the drums and ele piano done in 3 hours, but the guitar took me 3 days to tweak. Im really struggling to find the sweat spot between "substantial and original" yet be "identifiable and dominant" which is where my second point begins, if there is something missing, that I can't driver could someone point me in a direction where it could be found, perhaps anyone who feels like this is a project they could be apart of? If one were to look a my willingness to collaborate, it would say something like "very interested" but it should say "desperately seeking to make substandard music, into standard music". Atmosphere, atmosphere, atmosphere is the name of this mix's game, musical atmosphere. Thank you for the time and the listen!
  18. Ha! my avatar kind of sums me up, just a square.

  19. Wow, thanks for the compliment, as for the "ripping (me) off" under no circumstances did I get into remixing( or music for that matter) to horde ideas and lock them down as only MINE!!! I would be humbled if i were to inspire someone to remix a track. That's why I do it, it puts me somehow closer to the games I love and from that point on Im not some one who just played the game, I feel I was part of the game, not to piss on it and call it my territory. So "rip off" away and produce a track that makes mine sound like a cat clawing its way up a chalkboard, good luck!
  20. https://soundcloud.com/daniel-lesuer/get-back-to-work ( I didn't know using playthroughs was causing that much of a problem, but under protest here's the link) Thank you Timaeus222! So this is more soundscape( bear with me on this one) I just feel with all the interpretive sounds it really is more of an opera with no singing( pretty sure if that's not possible...) :05 The hammering beat :21 the sound of rhythmic push broom :24 the jackhammer chipping away to the beat, 1:05 the steam escaping from the cymbals 1:12 the friendly company reminders as cheerful bleeps "Thank you for shopping with (insert mole pun store name) and remember…A Hard Working Mole is a Happy Mole” 2:10 Oh an the Basson, next to the human voice, might be one of the most expressive instruments out there, it complains, asks "why do I have to work so HAAAAARRRRRD?" "but I'm SOOOOOOO tired " Next question Seriously need help with this one, so a while back there was request for a Remix of "Hard Working Moles are Happy Moles" for a Super Mario RPG album project. It's from a year ago. How do I submit this for consideration on that album? Not sure whats happing with that, any help is appreciated, Thank You For Your time!!
  21. Ok touched up some things....now sleep is needed:sleepzzz:. new link https://soundcloud.com/daniel-lesuer/gremlins-new-5
  22. So here I am running Cubase and Reason trying to get them to play, and all they do is when the music starts to pick up I get the gremlins and all the sound goes to hell, in this grabbled mess so i figured when "life gives you lemons, make lemonade...then throw it in Life's face for giving you lemons when you asked for oranges" -P.H Yeah so here it is, any thoughts? Im aware the drums can be repetitive, but that is whats holding this song back and Ive tried nothing and Im all out of ideas!!! Seriously though, I need much help with these drums. (preemptive shout out to timaeus222, Whats up?) (I know its a long play, but bare with me here) https://soundcloud.com/daniel-lesuer/gremlins
  23. So, This is gong to be a resub probably (verbatim) this week, however I thought I'd give it one more shot at peer review before I cut the chord on this one (see what I did there, chord/cord? chord/cord? chord/cord? Oh come on! I put a lotta work into that!) So if you would hear, the Fx are the star here. They do build up, however the general felling I was aiming for was a down, not depressing, but literally every note, beat, effect, sound, voice is predominately down. I want to see if the atmosphere could drive the mix, rather than a driving baseline or shedding guitar. Before an thoughts on the guitar( and its familiar melody) it is simply a platform that licenses every other sound here and I don't want to sully the mixing with anything that's going to detract from the tunnel you're currently navigating, so solos and hybridizations are out. Ive fought with myself to keep it as long as the feeling of glitchy subterranean......tubularity(?) is present, and I feel it has achieved its goal. HOWEVER, if there are criticism that my very biased ears cannot detect, speak now or hold your peace till I come crawling back. https://soundcloud.com/daniel-lesuer/its-a-series-of-tubes-1
  24. Wow first and foremost thank you timaeus222 for taking the time to listen( Im beginning to think you're the only one who responds to my post Yes Yes Yes the melodies blend so nice, but I cannot claim it was a forethought. I have tried to write/remix music based on planning chord progression, but found that, though it takes longer to do the hunt and peck for each sound to see if it jells, the results are usually feel more natural. The Cv material was easy to blend as most of Castle Center is a strong backing track with alota blunted, less treble more pad sound and SMW was very sharp and( to my ears) clicky high timbre sounds. "It's too different." I know you probably were referring to a comparison between the sources and the remix, but TBH If there is one descriptor I hope to sum up my mixes, it is that. Too weird to be ignored, to bad to be admired. Either way thanks for the Input!!!
