  1. So the title is it? Are presets in Massive, Thor, Hypnotic Dance or whathaveyou a cop-out? I will almost always tinker, under the hood with any VST preset, but someone I respect greatly almost made it seem like they were a crutch, unless you built it from the ground up...It's always been so much easier to take a preset that sounds close to something I would like to use, then tinker from that point rather than go ground up. I want to level up my productions so seriously I need personal opinions...."Are VST presets inferior ( weakening my production skills) to building sounds from the ground up"
  2. This is really depressing to read...There's probably nothing I can write here, that is going to do much, but a desire to a thought, a thought to a plan, a plan to a spark, a spark to a ember, an ember to a fire, a fire to a blaze, a blaze to an inferno. I can offer only my inexperienced remixery, first chance I get I will tackle one unclaimed track, if only for my own love of DK64 (quietly pours off some banana liquor for this wayward project)
  3. May I bump this up to Mod Review? I didn't get much public feedback... it's done until I can find a crowd willing to help me with the boot stomp and clap...sooooo I guess it's done. Original- Remix- https://soundcloud.com/yoshiblade1/going-bannas
  4. Yes I have a sauce account and the MP3 ready.
  5. I'm in too...I'm done with my track, but lets see if I can be DONE- done
  6. Bwahahaha!!! I knew there were others, I have a few uncouth files names, but this one takes the cake "fuck clsow docmcutpet fuuuckf.reason"
  7. Run it by Mindwanderer first, but Just Coffee, maybe you and Mark Sparling could work as a team? Just Coffee that Mega Man 8 track was epic and that alone should qualify you as a star, just ask Mindwanderer first. I'd love to hear what you two can cook up!
  8. Hey Mark! Have you found a star to work with yet?

  9. NOOOOO!!!! Seriously I'm hoping this'll bump the thread a bit and maybe someone will see this! Comon the more the merrier. If you don't have a Star by tomorrow, I'll check my rolodex and start campaigning to find you a star! Start working on something, would be my suggestion, someone will hopefully step up soon, this is a good group of people here.
  10. Reason did a similar demo, save all you want, but no opening of the save files, but I never tried to open a sent save file. What differentiates a personal ( one the free FL user created) save file from one sent from the (purchased edition) sender?
  11. Yeah, I heard this last night and I have nothing to offer but thumbs up ...Retrowave is fast becoming a favorite genre because of tracks like this.
  12. Hey while you're still here... in the picture How did you get the audio file in the same track as the Midi piano roll? It's labeled "build up arp" third row from the top and i see the wave form of a reverse cymbal hit. In Cubase it won't let me put a cymbal sound file with the midi data. I can put the sample in a drum pad then hit it, but it's not the same.
  13. Yeah, certainly not going to retroactively except this to happen, just a "in the year 2000" thought. I did acutely do this once. Gario, upstanding young man, was nice enough to let me look at the drums for 2 songs. It was really nice to see the everything moving, like taking apart a watch and seeing how it works. Now, I now realize how alone I am with Reason, because If you don't have the plugin in Reason, It will tell you you're missing a plug in, I don't remember if it will tell you which RE though. Too late...I'm already on the bathroom floor crying This piqued my interest...does the person take the Wav. file from a project finished in FL and then use Cubase to tinker? (digital fist bump) This Is a morsel, but I can somewhat visualize what it would look like when playing. ^^ favorite explanation
  14. The simplest question is this, will there every be a time when the DAW files Reason, FL studio, etc. files will ever be available for download? The files can be quite large, but I feel like there is a wealth of knowledge that could be obtained from just seeing the different automations, routing and visual cues, absent from just the audio file.
  15. You know I think I owe timaeus an apology. I conflated Iron Remixer with RWS. I guess the focus here is the team work aspect, not so much the use of a "Secret ingredient", so in that respect, yes timaeus would be right to focus on the team building and creating a well produced track. It's just confusing when it comes time to vote, "Do I vote on who's track that I liked the best or who followed the spirit of the Compo?" These RWS have been around longer than me, so I am in no place to demand change. I just want to have a solid framework when it comes time to plan, create and then judge.
  16. Ok I will come clean...I have no less than 3 MM mixes, I'm currently working on, that I really wanted to enter, but that would violate the spirit of the Compo. Then I thought I'll just do another MM, and felt empty inside. I never thought of the balance to keep people coming back, I apologize for ignoring that aspect. Yes, I will commit to not going MM on this one, in all honesty it's probably going to be Robo's Theme...or Proto Dome, maybe Metal Gear? Keeping with both themes, Of course. Rock on and Let's Have Fun Everyone!!!!
  17. Well if we were in a race and the rules said Run OR Take a car, the race would quickly turn into people taking the easier route i.e. take the Car, or in this case use a theme from a game about robots which there are many, many options. Further more it requires the Star and Novice to think in creative and novel ways. Think of a a scavenger hunt, Go find 10 things vs go find these specific 10 things, which one sounds more fun? I don't want to cause any trouble, just a thought.
  18. I don't want to hijack the Compo, but can we change the "OR" to "AND"...I feel like the "OR" basically opens up the playing field too much. The last one was very specific i.e. use this VST in someway and prepare to be judged on how you use it. This one has no teeth, I'm mean how many games use robots as a theme?...many. Using industrial sounds is really cool, but there's a chance everyone's just gonna use the first quantifier and not the more interesting second one. Tie our hands a bit and then make us earn it.
  19. Well TBH, I tried a writing experience with my original post, whatcha think? With that being said, a Jim Henson production, with out Jim Henson is a terrible idea. With movies, in order to determine whether or not it's good you must first pony up the cost of a ticket, with is how general studios determine if something is "good" (maybe profitable is a better word). As it stands, since JH passed away, most of what has been done has not been good, save for the last 2 movies, but in reality they took what worked with the original movie a star studded cast on a cross country trip, and translated the cultural icons from the late 70's to the 2000's. Think about it..if they put Dom DeLuise ( as side from the fact he is dead) in the new one, kids and probably most adults would say..."who?" Frozen was a child of Pixar the "The Jim Henson Company" for people born in the 90's and the Lego movie was a fresh idea not a tired reboot or 80's-o-rama with explosions. I hope Fraggle Rock is good, but I'm banking that it will have no teeth and will use "hey everyone remember these guy?!" as a crutch, limping along. Will it turn a profit ? Probably. Is it something worthy of the title a Jim Henson production, no. Jim Henson was great because he took HIS vision and made it real...I love Jim Henson...I just don't like what is being done to his legacy, build a new legacy, find the next Jim Henson.
  20. Anyone with Cubase or Reason? Not by any means a deal breaker, I'll take who ever feels like they can assist me with the ins and outs of the mixing process.
  21. I tried to drop a message over in the community forum last round, but It got bounced back to Compos. Is there a way anyone can think to try and gets more of the community involved in these Compos? More Voting, more collaborations, more submissions, more anything are a recipe for a great round!
  22. Brandon, I knew you were going to be first...I'm beginning to think you're omnipresent on every forum, at every second, of every day from the beginning of the universe, till an hour past the end of time as we know it. ps this track is my kind of great.
  23. Sounds like the the Nostalgia Fields are ready for harvesting. Will it be good? Doesn't matter, kids will watch for colors and movement, older audiences will watch to remind themselves at some point in time they weren't bitter husks of human beings, relocated to walking dollar signs just waiting to be turned into box-office gross receipts, only to be left feeling that somehow at sometime those weren't muppets, they were real creatures speaking directly to you, all culminating with the bitter realization, that no amount of "Dance your cares away" will dissuade the bill collectors and unjust responsibilities foisted upon us, demanding a cruel exchange of monopoly money for real money and cooties for HPV, leaving us with a small morsel of cynical irony in a place, where the monster that lived under our beds once lurked...
  24. Simple question, what is the VGM (or other I suppose) track that set you on your Remixing way, not necessarily the 1st track you remixed or covered, but the one that made you feel like remixing is something more than a novelty? For me it was the Kingdom of Ixa'taka Theme from Skies of Arcadia (specifically around the 1 min mark, when that guitar comes in) and FFXI- Airship Theme( anyone else hear the Marshall Tucker Band's "Can't You See" here? I have yet to even try and remix either of them, but something about them just makes me feel...like I want to be apart of the tracks in some way, I don't know what way, but some way.
  25. May I throw my name into the hopper? When is the Star Novice Lock in date? I'm going to campaign around for participants and let's see if we can get 6 teams this round! I really want to help expand this project, it's a great exercise in working in tandem with other musicians and a goldmine for learning the production process!
