  1. Hmmm...I not sure what to do, so I'll ask.....if no one comments on a posted WIP does that mean it's that bad as to be beyond repair or just fell through the cracks? I'll take any and all advice for future reference, thanks for your help!
  2. (Continued Part 3) It's weird how for you the Games come first and the music second, but that just keeps it in perspective, don't just play the adventure make it part of your own....ok I'm starting to get a little hackneyed, so 1 year and going, I hope to come back in a year and say Gezzz! I can't believe I wrote that?!?! Well at least no one saw it. Stay up there kiddo!!!

  3. (Continued) Im not sure if talent is real( I've never really felt the effects of talent, but you can be damn sure Ive felt the effects of hard work, staying up all night, copious amounts of caffeine, anger at the fact you've been sating at a screen for 5 hours and done maybe a 10 sec loop that you're going to save and never see again, but cmon guy you keep pushing you've got other responsibilities to yourself and others, but this is something that drives you. You can't really choose the direction your winds blows, but you can just sit by and enjoy it or try and utilize it to go places, even if no one else cares, you bought the ship, you learned to sail it, you chose the cardinal direction, now if the wind is at your back or on your face, side to side or dead still you chose to leave the harbor and It feels like others are rushing by on a breeze you can feel, you gotta do it your way, row if you have to!!!!

  4. So year one, ehh, well as a message from the past.....How you coin YoshiBlade? I don't know if you'll even read this in a year, but one year on and I know you'll disagree but you have made some baby steps forward, but there's plenty of work to be done, it gets harder the higher you ascend . I know the air gets thinner the higher you climb and its cause for some alarm, that 10 steps near the top of a huge mountain are worth 100 steps at the bottom, but I feel like you've got the goods to keep slogging to out. I know that the set backs will try and push you back, but you've got this, when you made a resolve to get posted you knew this was Judge's YES or bust, so Don't get discouraged.

  5. Trying a new thing, posting this very early WIP, maybe it's easier to build with feedback rather than after it?.....trying to make the ebb and flow of the mix match the rhythmic undulations of a snake....well, can I quit my day job? Source- Remix- https://soundcloud.com/yoshiblade1/snakes
  6. All right! Two! No, seriously I was expecting 3 less than that, but WOW! I feel like the only time Ohio gains a remixer is when they pass through on their way to MAGfest, but Wowie-wow-wow! Come on, speak up you lurkers, who else has had the pleasure of driving behind an Amish Buggy????
  7. FINE! I'll build my own thread, with blackjack and hookers!!!! In fact, forget the thread and the blackjack!...Awww screw the whole thing...
  8. I've said it once and I'll say it again. "You got peanut butter in my chocolate! You got chocolate in my peanut butter! ......Mmmmm delicious." Sorry if it's not much of a criticism, but it's what I'm feeling.
  9. Oh wow, sooooooo once upon a time I would post a mix, receive feedback, touch up my mix, repost. So I remixed the remix awhile back, but just never posted it as a touch up.....tweaked some drums, guitars, bass and added the Underground theme from SMB2 ( I was excited to add the line " We've got to go deeper (squint eyes) only to find that that line doesn't exist...Just an FYI, the internet can occasionally contains some inaccurate information....) https://soundcloud.com/yoshiblade1/its-a-series-of-tubes-rewired-fm
  10. .....hi.......Soooo every time my school's radio station does an artist week( invite local artists to play their music live) I do 2 things, try and get booked then proceed to bug every artist how much they would like remixing VGM, so far nothing, great bands and talented people all of them friendly, just not many burn with a passion for the music that is part and parcel to the games we play. I've tried hanging around the music lab, but that just ended up with me helping some people get their bearings in Reason ( still had fun helping though). It would just feel nice to know that there are other mixers around Ohio that are plugging away making it happen. Soooooo.....what's up?
  11. https://soundcloud.com/yoshiblade1/feeling-blue original- ( if I get a hearty response I'll switch to the original Link to more a Musically focused oneDid i miss the Halloween spoopky rush?!?!?! Damn! Ah well, here is the creepiest and most terrifying of all styles dubstepishness OOOhHOHOhoHOOOOOOOO ( that was a ghost, who needs to learn to take advantage of sessional styles) So this mix is for all intents done, I would have ModR'd the tag but I still want to put some 4Swords samples in it( for those who haven't tried, the Dark Link is the reason I mixed this just so i could hear his adorable voice) listen for Dark Link in the play through, dear god he's a cute......sorry.
  12. https://soundcloud.com/yoshiblade1/zelda-time-2 So this is Temple of Time with Serenade of Water and so I'm stuck in a quagmire, I wrote it after listening to Nostalvania and I loved the.......smoothNES.........of his remixes. I "finished" this and was going to PM him to see if he wanted any part of this mix ( if there was anything here worth having a part of [also as a thank you for helping with my Cubase problems]) but figured I should run it past the Workshop, see if it passes muster and then go from there. The main reason is the Drums here are in Reason( I'm familiar with) and everything else is Cubase( the meanest best friend I've ever had) so Cubaser out there are difficult to find and I can only kind of blueprint ideas it's hard to get them flying in but individuals who are familiar with Cubase can do Amazing things. So if it sound good I'll send it down stream and go from there. Have a great day all!!!
  13. New Version https://soundcloud.com/yoshiblade1/boos-hit-fin Ok I knew i was going to add another boss theme, straight from Oracle of Ages/Seasons for GB. Ok I really gotta run out the door right now. whatcha think.....come on now I need feedback. Ill be back.
  14. First, this sounds great and anyone who can make Cubase work for them is a wizard of the highest order IMO......I know this is almost completely tangential, but this sounds (especially round 1:15) like the beginning of an 80's family sitcom, a'la Family Matters, Cheers. I was waiting for a voice-over to be like "Super Mario Bros and The Family was filmed in front of a live studio audience" As always great work, jazz remixes are always good to hear thanks Nostalvania!
  15. This is the feedback I strive for, and thrive on. It was not my intention to make it seems like the 3 strikes were on your feedback, so if that what you felt I apologize. I was illustrating after looking at the mix, there were 3 points that ,at first glance, would not be readily apparent and may come into focus after the fact, but the nature of any art is that the audience will have the final word. As a side note the version I was remixing is the GB version, It is uncanny how the remix sounds like I'm try to emulate the GBA version, especial with those bass and toms, it was not my intention. GB - ( the paper notation I found says 126-BPM, but the actually music feels closer 123) I prefer the electronic clarity of this version.GBA-version drops the BPM down to 116-ish adding some layers and small changes, TBH its sounds muddy, like it was recorded through a can...not my first choice for a source. The GB version, again, the song is really only 40 seconds and after looking at the sequencer I did indeed leave off one of the four tracks so it may not be as pronounced, but the piano roll looks very cut and paste-ish, very similar to the original with few modifications , but I now see how it might not sound similar. Thank you Timaeus thorough feedback is what makes my music better. P.s Polymer science? Chemist or Chemistry Major? Chemistry was a former hobby, so erie good call on the comparison.
  16. Sanity......returning....the fog that clouds my mind.....lifting......the urge to buy extended warranties.....vanishing. Ok so GB version of Vermillion City, clocks in at just about 126 BPM, The remix clocks in at 90 BPM so that is Strike 1 for the distance from original. The Vermilion City theme starts in a :22 trading the "Horse riding, Giddyap!" western style of the original for a more relaxed easy going chip sound, Strike 2. GB tracks are simple creatures,so the hook had better be simple and identifiable, Strike 3. The body of the source material is mostly in the Popcorn and the up-and-down chugging chip synth that starts at 1:58, with some flares here and there, does it make the source more identifiable? Either way, I set out to make an omelet, got scrambled eggs....still good though. "Seems like your best soundscape so far, despite this being pretty original." "Cutting out various instruments, feedback delays, panning, love it love it love." Thanks you Timaeus, Thank you Skypnyk. I really am driven to remix VGM, for that sake of remixing, so it feels good, to have made something good, but I can't help but feel like I set out to climb Mt. Everest and ended up on the peak next to Everest, equally high altitude, just not Everest. Either way Thank you for the feedback!
  17. So remix of Vermilion City here, huge departure from the normal here, Posted 2 remixes with no feedback and now I'm dredging up musical madness, from the deepest recesses of my battered brain made crazy by 3 weeks with no critiques on the other mixes I posted. Don't believe me Im losing my musical mind? Then this track should clear up any linger doubts of my instrumental insanity I'll even throw in some gibberish free of charge....."PokeMon?!?! Pokemon?!?!? With the Poke- and-the-Mon and Waug-Uag-uag-uag-uag!!!" Remix- https://soundcloud.com/yoshiblade1/verm
  18. https://soundcloud.com/yoshiblade1/chemical-fire Eish, I gotta take a moment to thank every one who suffers through my mixes, thank you. Anyway so here is Fireman's stage, and what's that do I hear Iceman's stage too???? yeah a little but, I don't think Fire and Ice has ever been used as a metaphor for diametrical opposing forces to engage people's emotions on a subconscious level, so I may be on to something very new artistically here so don't let word get out........... ...............ok lemme has it, no Novocain, drill, chip and smash away at the pulp of my artistic creation, that is my music. Oh one more thing!!!! I need a good fire extinguisher SFX(to add to the mix), I can't find a good one just many poor ones so if anyone out there can help me let me know, Thank you!!
  19. I wouldn't complain (cue desperate smile).........
  20. Thanks for the feedback all! Yeah the ending is an absolute cut off, this is still very WIP. The thing is I can't run both Reason and Cubase( All i get is a garbled mess) so what is happening is I'm recording the Reason drums and SFX and putting them in as a wav. and trying to sync them as best I can. I wish there was an easier way . Im really scared to tinker with the simplicity of the sounds in this one, I thought it was giving a sense of You and The Boss, no one else......alone, rising tension, but the only thing I can foresee is crowbarring in another boss theme, so far LoZ 2 boss theme feels like it may work in some measure, but Im up for suggestions.......Cubase is very obtuse I just need to get that off my chest
  21. Orignial- Remix- https://soundcloud.com/yoshiblade1/target-acquired-2 "For those regarded as warriors, when engaged in combat, the vanquishing of thine enemy can be the warrior's only concern." -HH If the word "infamy" could be placed in musical notation, this is what we would hear. How does this little tune has within its few notes passion, anger, fear, determination in so many words this was my favorite part of the MM series. It's as if the Robot Master is both taunting you or the voice of a God demands "This is your foe, kill or be killed". This song is right up there with the James Bond Theme or the Mission Impossible Theme for imparting the urgency and danger the task at hand possesses. As a side note 2 things. 1) Yes the intro must remain that long, I'm taking you on a trip back, many things change in MM, but the song remains (mostly) the same and I need every second, TBH I would have made it longer, but thats another story. 2) These drums an in need of help, The very drums were done by me live on the radio, back in march and I liked them so much, I tried to recreate them at home, not satisfied. If anyone is up to the challenge of trying to add some drums, PM me and we'll figure something out. As always Thank You for listening and all feed back is necessary and welcome.
  22. There are times in history when forces sit opposite of one another, perhaps unaware of the other's presence or maybe just indifferent, yet when circumstances conspire that they should meet we as listeners, especially those who have listened to the individuals separately, are treated to an experience non like any other. Soundole. MotiveMakesaMan.Kyle Von Lanken. Much like the joining of peanut butter and chocolate, milk and the cookie or beer and pizza you have created something for which I would pay, in amounts not to exceed 15 USD, to see live in concert. You've captured the feel of live improvisation and the artist's den atmosphere, simply amazing. I look forward to many more just collaborations. Soundole, I've enjoyed all of your EWI covers, now you have injected your persona into the art, instead of just trying to do straight covers and your talents need no validation this is a new level of good. MotiveMakeaMan I've enjoyed your covers for sometime, It's as if Brian Eno, Koji Kondo and The Postal Service all rolled into one easy on the ears package. Kyle Von Lanken.....not too familiar with you, so way to live up to the first-impression-are-most-important mantra!
  23. Best that version stay private, but thanks to the help of Nostalvania (fine upstanding young man, if I may say so) I was able to fix the issue. I was told this was a little repetitive and there's truth in that. However, is it good? So I'll posit an example, in regards to the repetitive moniker. If you ate 1 slice of Pumpkin Pie, thats good. If you ate 1 slice of Eel Pie that's kind of bad. If you ate 9 slices of Pumpkin Pie that's good, but just too much. If you ate 9 slices of Eel pie, thats really bad and should give up on eating pies.......So, what kind of pie and how many slices did I just serve you? Here's the Pie, errr...Link....whatever....... https://soundcloud.com/yoshiblade1/boos-hit-6 P.s as an addendum, Looking back at the above, I see the possibility for many baking puns here, so don't let me stop you P.P.s it's still in it's WIP stage, so looking back maybe the baking puns are a bad analogy, I mean who eats a baked good half way done? P.P.P.s ........cookie dough...damn it......well Im not gonna delete the above because of a bad analogy, so hows the cookie dough?
  24. Well the mix is Zelda Lttp- Boss Theme and OoT- Miniboss Theme = Upper-management Personal ……..(sigh)So there is a huge problem here. I’m ready to send my computer out the window on this one. Im using Cubase and I have an Arpache SX attached to the synth that starts @ 1:28…however it DOSE NOT sound like the synth I have running while I’m playing the track IN cubase, when I Mixdown into a Wav. I get the track posted. I know it’s some how related to the Arpache SX, It plays perfectly in cubase. Again at 3:14,Arpache SX attached, track while playing in Cubase = different than whats in the Wav. Both have a sort of gated feel in Cubase, but when mixed down as a Wav. the gated feel is gone and all i get are sustains and NO choppy-ness and punchy gated feels I get when playing in Cubase are gone….This is really causing allota stress. Testing the water here if it’s worth the fight I’ll stay on this Mixing issue, if the remix is DOA, I’ll turn my efforts elsewhere, either way the version I want to continue mixing is locked up in Cubase and I can’t finish it until I resolve the issue. So 2 Questions 1) Can anyone help with the Cubase problem and 2) is the mix sound like something that sounds like it’s headed in the right direction or am I beating a dead horse Thank you for the Time and ANY help is appreciated. 25. So Im not sure if anyone reads these, but you know the art is the goal here and the anabolic nature of VGM remixing require of me that anyone who takes the time to listen to my mix, has (in my view) a right to better my mixes or better their mixes if I have something they view as necessary or a benefit to their mix/art. So I guess what I'm trying to say here is, if you would like to collaborate my preemptive answer is yes or if I have a particular sound(drum, synth, effect, etc.) you would like to utilize please, for the better of our genre, ask and I'll do what I can to help.
