  1. Seriously DarkeSword, way to quarterback this one!! You were working overtime on those panels this year, in addition to everyone else including the last minute understudies. OCR panels break down the thin wall of anonymity the username provides. The only thing I could comment on would be rather than have one mixer off in their headphones, doing an on the fly mix, maybe have them explain each step of what they are doing? If I watched Eddie Van Halen tearing it up on guitar, that's cool, but it really doesn't have the learning value as a step-by-step workshop. I'd say more time would alleviate the issue, but MAG is becoming a zero sum time game...."take your pick the autograph signing or the panel"
  2. I foresee this as being a necessary conclusion to the MAG 13. What did you like? What didn't you like? Better than last year? Worse? Why? Did you stay at the Gaylord or commute? What were experiences? I'll chime in, after a few days meditating on the past weekend, but if you've got something to add to the discussion, fire off!
  3. Hey Nick, just wanted to check in and see how that free flowing Mega Man remix idea is going?

  4. Sooo....hot off the line my school is doing a live artist's week presented by Amnesty International at LCC and I need 2 other DJs spinning their own VGM remixes. Right off the bat, this is purely for exposure, I cannot officially pay anyone cash for a performance, this is non-profit for awareness towards human right's issues around the world, but if you're close to the location https://www.google.com/maps/place/Lake+County,+OH/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x88319f037fb911f7:0x5042dd1b32524ce?sa=X&ei=she_VKuLE4i1ggTEmIT4Aw&ved=0CHkQ8gEwCg, This is in northeast Ohio ( see thread http://ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=48309 ) If you're from Ohio it makes it easier on me, this is intended to be a local artist event, but I can negotiate the definition of local( the closer, the better). We are aiming for Friday April 10th, slots open 5pm-10pm, 20min sets. I'm trying to secure an 8pm set so thats; Me 20min, DJ1-20min DJ2-20min= 1 hour and if you want to have a little fun, while getting a little public exposure, come on and join me. Any questions PM or just reply and I'll get back ASAP. The faster, the better, slots are going to fill fast!!! ps DJ is just a moniker. Any genre will suffice, so long as it's VGM remix-ish
  5. So all's well to set and jet, but one lingering question remains...How am I gonna say HiYa to all you wonderful people in person, seeing as everyone I know here ( who each has been sooooo helpful to me this last year!) I know only by your Nom de guerre? hmmmmm.......well Look for me I'll be the one wearing a video game themed tee-shirt................ seriously, I will certainly be at that OCR workshop. So if you see a Swissware back pack and a Powerglove....why not say hi? I'll buy you a Coke* *Some restrictions apply, void where prohibited. All offers may or may not be valid at time of offer, cannot be combined with other offers. For legal purposes Coke may or may not include any of the following;Coke can,Coke bottle, empty Coke bottle, empty Coke can, a water bottle, a bottle, no bottle, a bottle nosed dolphin, a dolphin, not a dolphin. Offerie cannot be held responsible for spilled drink, stains on cloth, injury, loss of wages is anyone really reading this…
  6. So this seems to be the right place to ask. Does anyone have a any group priced badges available? I pay cash in person at the event, not a huge deal just saves a little money and pre-registarion time.
  7. Talented artists deserve to be recognized and good art deserves to be propagated. I feel out of place not giving any substantive feedback, but I just wanted to chime in and send a great Big'ol thumbs up squarely in your direction. It's like a designer synthesis of my 2 favorite artistic addictions, Miyazaki films and video game music, I look forward to your final mix.
  8. So is it crass to bump your own thread if it has gone with no response? I really am struggling to find a balance between blasting my unwelcome my post/mixes at you patient people and letting the cream(the good? mixes) rise to the top naturally. The dilemma is, neither one of those are options without feedback. As always thank you for the listen and have a great day!
  9. Remix- Source- Yeah!!! Sooooo the last string of WIPs and Fins I've posted have gone uncommented so maybe this one will charm some of you. HOWEVER! I still need harsh criticism and honest feedback, so......have at you!!!
  10. No, I don't have any remixes posted, I am the proud recipient of my 3rd no-contest rejection letter, just yesterday. That's ok though, gotta keep on it just rememberstruggle_by_ommin202-d61dr9s.png check those midi files, if you're having trouble figuring out a song, the midis provide a nice piano roll ( some of them will translate into the sheet music too) and you can slow them down and play along with them, but first you gotta find the right DAW!

  11. Greetings way ward traveler! I maybe incommunicado for a bit( few weeks), but i'm gonna try and check my inbox as much as i can so if i don't respond immediately I apologize.

  12. Ok, so it sounds like you've got an understanding of what needs to be done to make a multi-sourced VGM mix, so now immerse yourself in the source and see what you synthesize, play it over and over, and a path will make itself known, good luck! Pokemon TCG= The Card Game

  13. Oh Topman for sure, but Hardman was strange as well, plus the Boss Select Fanfare was different, so that threw me off. "Unseal" arrangement...those are some big shoes to fill, but aim high, if you've got the chops on the piano, then make the time. I heard your Star Fox remix and you've got some frame work going, but still needs like a hook or something to pull the listener in. The DAWs I've got are good, but the price tag can put people off. I saw you're a student, that's worth a discount on many DAWs out there, saves you 100, maybe depending on the one. My advice would be to try the ALL and find one that gels, seriously demo them all and then find out what kind of discounts you can get! Right now I'm working on a Pokemon TCG (Game Boy) remix and (as I type) I'm trying to figure how I get this Snakeman Mix up and running again. It really feel like I'm spinning my tires on this one, but thats how the goddess of inspiration works, capricious, but she favors busy people.

  14. Allo, allo! The mix has stalled ( dramatic music).....( dramatic pause) For now i've switched gears over to Cubase from Reason, and the Snakeman mix is in Reason. I still want to work on the slithering, slow style of a electronic mix, but ( I just opened the mix and am currently listening to it), Hmmm...maybe I can Rewire it to Cubase and get some really FAT drums up in there......Yeah those drums are good for a slow kind of burning beat, hmmmmm either way, I'm not done with Snakeman by any measure. I was psyched, but megaman 3 and me have a rocky past. I love half the RBM, and the others where a little to far fetched, buuuuuuuttttt Protoman is in it and Rush.

  15. https://soundcloud.com/yoshiblade1/boos-hit-fin-1 So a little more salt in the soup....ok....a little more....little more.....little more aaaannnnnddddd it's swill. Yeah this mix....I don't know. So you hear, then decide if the issues are being resolved, without me over salting the mix. Serious question though...Are these reMix-relvaluate-retouch-repost sessions we do here in the workshop, being held to "Post"-able standards? By which I mean, someone might say "yeah this track is sounding really good, but not good enough to be posted"? I really hope I'm being held to a very high standard and not just limping along in the race with no real chance of being a posted remixer. Either way, thank you for the listen!!!
  16. HA! When I read you post I was like "that awesome, someone taking the time to ask about a remix" Then I saw the Snakeman avatar and....well....allow this to sum it up

  17. Just think!!!!! Next year you'll be able to get your driver's license!!!!!!!!
  18. Hmmmm......I just had a thought.....when you feel resistance from something, take care that your the trout swimming up stream and not the person driving the wrong way in heavy traffic.

  19. I was not aware of the disaster this is when played through sound cloud. I will remedy the problem immediately. My sincerest apologies Update !!!!!! I don't want this to bump up in the Workshop ( i don't want to seem like I'm spamming the top slot) so I'm going to just edit it, but it is now fixed and again, I am very sorry for my carelessness with you time and ears. Fixed version VVVVVVVVV https://soundcloud.com/yoshiblade1/bow-sir-reduced
  20. Well? Did I waste the day or not? P.s. koopa road remix Orignal- ^^^Nice video, me likes^^^^
  21. So if there was ever a song I've wanted to remix it was this. Just something about the simple 28 secs that seems to chant " You've got this! Com'on I've got you Back! Let do this thing as a team!" I needed that group feel to it with the sampled stomp and clap, like a whole bunch of people behind you are there cheering for you. The song progresses in a" I-think-I-can, I-think-I can, I-know-I-can, I-Know-I-can!!!!" manner. The chip style synth....Hmm I'm still figuring it out, but I like the simplicity and honest feel the chirps invoke, it's as if the rack is saying "I'm not trying to be a Massive synth....I'm just me lil'ol synth 101(Maelstrom)" remix- https://soundcloud.com/yoshiblade1/going-bannas original- (my Favorite room ^^^^^)
  22. So FL is coming to Mac, without all the bootcamp hassle and it feels good for the chance to partake of one of the Best (?) workstations out there, judging by how many people around here seem to be using it. Which got me thinking, How many workstations do you use? How many would you like to use? Which ones? Why? Would you recommend it/them? Is it wasteful to have more than one? Master of one or Jack of all Trades? What do you use and is there one program that's your bread and butter and all else are given second billing? This goes deeper than a technical level. Does having more than one hamper creative or amplify it? Or does learning every nook and cranny of one DAW transcend any need for features and tools that maybe exclusive to Reason, FL or what have you? Hmmm...FL 12 not coming out for a bit so got some time to think, so any thought are greatly appreciated. one last thing, I know print is on life support, but are there any good books on working with your work stations? any recommendations?
  23. As a disclaimer Im not qualified to give technical feedback, only artistic feeling. So yeah I gotta say this could be an example of a true interpretation of source material. Well done, you started ground up and put yourself, and your talents, in the mix, love it! I gotta agree, the bass feels a little flat kind of just plug'n play, i don't know how to put it....just seems cold and distant. The lyrics and vocals are on point, the only thing I could say is for a "folkish" song I'd like to hear your voice/voices without the processed effects. Doesn't folk music tend to embrace the natural feel of an instrument and voices? Oh and by the way you got yourself a new subscriber with those 2 guitars going, now THAT felt folkish. IDK take my thoughts with a heaping helping of salt. Either way great mix.
  24. Thank you for the critique timaeus. This one is a new logistical approach I'm taking with mixing, usually I hang around a mix listen, tweak, repurpose and tear down and try and identify each piece to be fleshed out ending with a mostly finished project. I'm going ground up with this one and then see what happens, as opposed to mixing mostly finished, then making minor adjustments. P.s No "sorry".....this is the feedback that builds better mixes, thanks again!
  25. Hey thanks Supercoolmike. Yeah I always wonder after 2-3 weeks if no one replies "Wow, well I guess the crowd has spoken, by not speaking, must suck". I live off of feedback, no feedback = no improvement. I'll have a look back and try and smooth out that intro.
