Final Fantasy VIII: Collision Course - History
Brandon Strader replied to Brandon Strader's topic in Projects
Yea sorry. It was originally intended to be a closing piece for the original concept, but I wasn't sure if I would stick to that especially with how much more and how much everything has changed.. But there's still a heck of a lot of time before that really needs to be figured out. So that's not a lab rat, just a regular white mouse? -

Yes, you are welcome aboard! I remember enjoying your mix when it was posted, interested to see what you do. First of all, your name is Kat but your picture is a mouse or maybe a lab rat. Your Ecco song was pretty good and it'd probably be cool if you claimed something else but the Overture needs to be really good to open up the album(probably). Needs to be reaaaally really good. If you're not good at huge arrangements and conservative then wouldn't most of the work be laid on your collaborator anyway? -

I forgot what that one was called too and in fact looked for it but couldn't find it, haha. But yeah, I definitely want to see Breezy covered and some of the others, it's all up to remixers choosing to want to do those. You're welcome! I'm looking forward to your mixes. I think we have the unique opportunity with this project to not do too much double, triple, quadruple-dipping with single artists because there seems to be a lot of people who want to remix stuff. I've heard your work in the past and know what a big figure you are at OCR so you can give it a go, I won't even ask for an audition, and I trust that you'd be cool and open to feedback if it comes up It was there a second ago, now it's gone! Looking forward to it -

Naww. I thought I did good allowing additional claims even though the original concept was pretty narrow. Remixing everything is a massive undertaking, though of course if it happens that'd be rad. Right now everything is listed in spirit, but only people who really read the first post will know they're allowed to claim more, so it's almost like a barrier to not list them all so that we only get the most dedicated people. Does that make sense? First half is full and second half is 98% full... we're in good shape! -

Hahaha, that started autoplaying after I listened to 1 of his songs. Just out of curiosity, what are the few FF8 themes you mentioned? There's definitely good ones not listed that people can claim, Hipnotyk got a couple of them... -

Hey! Sure, I will put you down for Lunatic Pandora and Salt Flats if you want them! Please keep an open mind about feedback on your mixes, so we can get the best result, and everything should be fine Yup somebody claimed it, bummer eh? You've got a pretty cool mix there, some cleaning up and it'll be good. A bit cluttered/muddy but you should revisit it and at least submit it to the OCR panel! Dunno where things will be a year from now but if for some reason the track opens up, you could probably slide in. Overture's the one case where I'd prefer to not have electro, I kinda want to have a big orchestral version for it.. I was considering claiming it myself so I could test out the new computer but I hesitated and sent some invites out to people, but nobody's quite been up to the task of such a big project yet. As for your remix, it could use some work with the production and sample quality, the drums are kinda basic and repetitive, levels and EQ need another good pass.. I'd say check out the OCR Workshop, it's a good place to get more detailed feedback on your mixes to help you improve You want to claim Wounded as a solo accordion piece? That sounds really interesting... I want to see how you would turn it into a (fuller) song. I'm cool with marking you down for it, and I'd also be up for mixing/mastering it if you choose so. If you're really in Random Encounter on accordion then you replaced Careless and I challenge you to fisticuffs. Not sure what RE's views are about asking me to mix/master because I was basically working for them via Careless and then he retired, and they didn't ask me to mix/master their Ecco track because it was a non-profit venture. I did mix/master the Big Blue remix on your Big Blue LP (last song) so I'm pretty familiar with their stuff haha. And I redid my computer since Careless retired so I need to make a new RE Accordion preset, seems like a good time to do that. Sure you/they can claim Heresy. ...but get back to me on whether they want me to mix and master it... Thanks OCR for that Twitter bump, haha! -
I think OCR's content policy is still valid, as they have the right to distribute and such but with a non-exclusive license... I think the CDBaby license is also in the realm of non-exclusive, but in the artists' interest, they'll flag stuff on Youtube that has been released through CDBaby. Sooooo I guess the short answer would be yes, OCR's policy can get invalidated by others like CDBaby, technically, but it's also not a huge deal here because CDBaby doesn't put one of those red strikes on your account like "serious copyright claimers" will. ON THE OTHER HAND, I could be completely wrong and it'll be up to djp or Larry to set us straight here.
-
I think this is the rare instance where CD Baby was in the right and you shouldn't have contested their claim or had them take it off. If Abreu released his music through CDBaby and then CDBaby made a claim on your upload, you wouldn't have gotten a strike as far as I recall with CDBaby in particular, and it would have been legally sound for them to do it. It gets into a gray area in concern to OCR though when you're using someone's licensed and released music such as through CDBaby, while you still have the right to use the music probably through OCR or whatnot, they then also have the right to monetize your video (CDBaby I mean, in this case) but the monetization would go back to the artist of the song who released it on CDBaby. The artists' rights of ownership and copyright for their song override any other rights through OCR But long story short the title of this thread should be "CD Baby True Claims on Youtube"

This is really exciting! Thanks Sagnew for drawing my attention over here with your dang like button mashing Sad that I couldn't be involved, even tho you wanted a simple flute part.. though it probably wasn't simple enough for me. Despite having a couple mixes posted with flute I still consider myself a beginner, don't even have embouchure down pat yet. -
That is incredibly sad... I'm surprised they announced his passing, I always assumed they just elected a new Groundhog without publicizing the passing of the previous one.. we're not talking about the Pope here.. this is a much more important and celebrated role and the illusion is kind of lost if they acknowledge the passing, but then again it would be good to honor the life of the previous Groundhog. I don't know how to feel about this one, it's a difficult situation and I'm not sure what I would choose to do if it was up to me. In honor of Groundhog Day and his prediction, I wore shorts to work tonight. It'd be sooo nice if it weren't for the rain. It's a pleasant night though, and it'll be 63 degrees tomorrow. Thank you, Groundhog!

How long have you been sitting on that one DS? I wish Groundhog Day was every day so you could have shared that sooner
-
Groundhog Day is a huge Holiday at the Strader households! I would like to wish you all a great Groundhog Day, later we can discuss the outcome of the Groundhog's forecast and in the coming weeks, see how accurate it was. The news is already forecasting more snow for this area, so I can see the Groundhog potentially going in that area as well. We'll see!

I'm really excited, and I want to get some opinions on a WIP date. I don't want it to be so soon that a bunch of people start dropping out, but not so far away that this stretches into 2019. A good starting point would be to ask current remixers who signed on what works for them. Some people have already started which is awesome, but not everyone can do that. Or uhhh.. don't mind me.. I didn't say anything... -

Plan seems good, but I think a thread in the subforum would be better than outdated IRC! Definitely need that live bass but you can get by with programmed drums. EWQL I like the SO percussion and the choirs are good, but I'd look elsewhere for the strings/violins, like LASS. The brass might be passable but there are better options, I personally don't have them though. This would make a great collab and would be the perfect opportunity for one, for something big. Hopefully we can sort that out. Not sure whether it would include writing to a midi, or compiling different peoples' midi writing based on a central tempo and key... but it'll be interesting to figure it out, and having a thread on the subforum will help a lot with accomplishing that, and we will get that sorted out There's really only 4 left to claim? -

Throwing this out for someone to take, but "Wounded" in the style of this song (with vocals!) would be amazing! A lot of the stuff that's not included in the tracklisting is overly militaristic, or stuff that repeats on central themes or motifs that are already included in the tracklist, for example, "Where I Belong" despite having an awesome intro section, then just goes directly into the Balamb Garden melody... that comes up so often in the OST. "Love Grows" is another example, it's a great theme but it's basically "Eyes On Me', technically "Waltz for the Moon" is too. That's why a lot of those themes aren't included even though it'd be awesome to cover them, it would just end up being too much of the same theme. But there's a lot that isn't listed that could still be remixed... and hey, with the right idea, maybe someone could even cover one of these themes that is just a rearrangement of existing themes if done right. -

Wow! You got it, Joe! I am particularly excited what you do with Waltz for the Moon, but also Drifting should be a pleasant surprise as well, very good songs and I know you will do a great job with them. Sorry I'm out of likes, they seem to not refresh per day but instead 24 hours later from when you last used one.. but I'll get all the likes handed out eventually -

I wanted to be fair to HeavenWraith which is why I gave him the claim -- he had a few mixposts, so that was all on the up and up.. however I am now agreeing with Gario. Something big needs to be arranged for the opening just as something big for the ending would be ideal. I am hoping HeavenWraith isn't upset or offended by the idea of leaving it open to get some form of mega-collab going. I'd like to hear back from HeavenWraith about his thoughts on this, hopefully he is still checking the forum! Hahah... I hope you know what you're getting yourself into! Though certainly making a version different than what has already been done and what is implied (i.e. heavy metal) would probably be a good thing. But it still has to be excelsior. I did say FF3 would be my last big project, but I guess I couldn't let the suckers go. (projects or OCR, you decide ) Also not a huge fan of FFMQ or finagling In reality this very well could be my last BIG project though, since these take 2-3 years.. can I see myself doing this in 2020? That's the question. Either way, let's make this one really really good, and hopefully some other people come out of the woodwork and say "you know what, I think I'll do FFX right now" then we can do both. OA! Yes! I was wondering when/if this might/ could possibly happen! I am so happy it is! I'll give you both but then I'm claiming "Trust Me" before it gets snapped up by some greedy dude who tries to claim 3 things. Just to add on to the end of this, I am AMAZED at the response to this over a 24 hour period... people still love FF8 and Nobuo Uematsu! Even the second half got filled up, hahaha!!! I hope you guys maintain that momentum and I don't have to claim more than 2, although I would really like to, it's about time we get an album going where I don't gotta fill in the blanks! -

I've added on all the claims, thank you all! I also ran out of Likes so I can't like posts anymore. I was hoping for something huge for Liberi Fatali, but not sure how that would be accomplished... I don't think bustatunez would do it But good luck to everyone who just claimed stuff. A lot of difficult and important themes! -

I will admit 1 thing though the 2nd half for sure has a lot more sources I'd refer to as "brutal", but it has a couple really awesome atmospheric/avant-garde potential in "Silence and Motion", "Compression of Time", "Trust Me"... I personally have a lot of interest in the 2nd half, but I think djp claimed the only really uplifting source -- outside of Ride On, the airship theme. YESS You owe me Many-A-Thing, Many-A Very-Secret-Unmentionable! Thank you! I will mark you down! -

Ok, it's a pretty iconic track! Maybe you and Tuberz could collab on the arrangement too? I'll mark you guys down for it! Interested to hear how you 3 would handle it! Thank you very much. Yes you can grab The Landing! Prioritize FF3 though. And I'd love to mix and master your stems, that'd be hot. Dunno if people are skimming the first half and claiming and neglecting the second half list, but there's KICKARSE stuff in the second half...
