OCR02941 - Shenmue "A Breeze in the Night"
OverClocked PodCast replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Really faithful to the lovely source material while adding something (specifically a downright therapeutic bass) to the mood. I feel like it could have gone more places, but I'm into it. -
OCR02940 - Sonic CD (US) "Take It All the Way"
OverClocked PodCast replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
At first this ReMix felt a little sparse or unfinished to my ears, but when that jazzy-as-all-get-out saxophone led into the guitars playing their hearts out at 1:25, boy was I sold. The two lead instruments trading off, backed by brass that cheers them on at every turn, was an utter delight. Rad, rad work. -
OCR02939 - Metroid Prime "Let's Upset a 'Troid!"
OverClocked PodCast replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
This ReMix manages to keep the mysterious, alien quality of Metroid Prime alive while simultaneously being a boatload of fun. 2:14 had me grinning. -
OCR02938 - Metroid "Dex"
OverClocked PodCast replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
The intro didn't get under my skin personally, and I really like the percussion-heavy glitchiness that 0:17 introduces. My favorite part might have been the calm, almost sleepy tempo that begins around 2:36. For a moment I was lulled into thinking that baby metroids are pretty cute after all, but then the little nightmares awake and attach themselves to my head and the song ends. Good stuff! -
OCR02937 - Secret of Mana "Mother"
OverClocked PodCast replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
This chilled me right out. Beautifully mixed. I've never played Secret of Mana, but the whole song gave the feeling of growing plant life. The percussion is a strong heartbeat that keeps the whole arrangement moving. Yes sir, I like this a lot. -
OCR02935 - Rockman & Forte "Get Down"
OverClocked PodCast replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
This is smooth mix that I deem easy on the ears! The cool-as-a-cucumber bass is the first thing that jumped out at me, but 0:55's chiptune sound is downright bluesy. Good stuff. -
OCR02934 - Kirby Super Star "Mummy Dance"
OverClocked PodCast replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Hey, it's my favorite Mazedude song! Nothing sounds at all right, so each of the weirdo elements clicks together to create something that sounds wrong and rad at the same time. The vocal sample at 1:55 is perfect. -
OCR02933 - Final Fantasy IV "La Fin de Zeromus"
OverClocked PodCast replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
To me, this mix is consistent-- like, REALLY consistent. Good and dubsteppy, it kept pounding away to a solid beat without fail, but that started to wear on me after a while. I'm with Crulex, though; 3:45 gave me a renewed interested in the song at large, which was real cool. I liked it, and I'm very happy to see more dubstep appear on the site! -
I find the source tune to be a little meandering and unfocused, discordant in a way I don't always appreciate, but that is definitely not the case for this ReMix. My technical music words fail me once again, but 1:00's intense, stuttering quality is jam-out-worthy without a doubt. The percussion also hits hard all the way through, giving way to pianos just long enough to set a creepy mood. This is one of those songs I could loop for a long time without feeling the itch to move on!

OCR02931 - Half-Life 2 "I Tried"
OverClocked PodCast replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Hoo boy, this is the kind of music that never seems to resonate with me. Impressively fluid and distant, it's just too fluid and distant to connect with my brain. The echoing synth at 0:55 should, I think, bring me into the melody, but it pushes me away with a sort of dissonant disinterest. That said, I ended up with a melancholy sensation of deep, dark gray waters-- a vivid sensation-- so the music's doing something cool all right! Just not my cup of deep, dark gray waters. -
OCR02930 - Mega Man X6 & X3 "Shield of Legend"
OverClocked PodCast replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I was liking this ReMix just fine, but it wasn't until 0:55 that I looked up from whatever menial task I was doing on my computer, and I didn't look back down until the end. That strong juxtaposition between chiptune and sweeping orchestra is like tasting something sweet and salty at the same time, and that thing is delicious. The percussion work has a goodly amount of power to it-- BUUM, DUM, BUUM -- BUUM, DUM, BUUM-- and I love the brass. Heroic. I'm not really here for the melody, and as I've never played Mega Man X, certainly not the nostalgia. It's the way that mixture of instruments brings grand feelings to the surface. -
OCR02929 - World of Warcraft "Heart of the Moon"
OverClocked PodCast replied to Liontamer's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I recently discovered Kate's Raindancer album and promptly fell in love with it. I mean it when I say she creates some of the most beautiful, ponderous music I've ever heard, and this song is no exception. I'm thrilled every time someone creates a Warcraft ReMix and this is such a good choice. I can see the pale, violet city of Darnassus in my mind's eye; so much care placed in every note. And I caught some of the night-elf-speak, which kind of made me happy. So yeah, thumbs up. -
The Skyward Sword theme is clever but never touched my soul like other Zelda music, but this is a masterfully played and very pretty rendition. Honestly, it still feels a little medley-ish to my ears, but that hardly detracts from such a love piece. Makes me wish I had the time to join this piano quest.

OCR02927 - Super Metroid "Beyond the Glass"
OverClocked PodCast replied to Liontamer's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I... what, wait, no. NO. People can't just go out and make music (and videos, for heaven's sake) this good without a scary-sized budget. Another mind-blowing Sam Dillard piece. And I kept waiting for something to happen-- jump out of the audio shadows as it were-- but nothing ever did; the tensions just keeps building, layer upon gorgeous layer. What a soundscape. Holy cow. Darn it, Sam, your talent has made me angry. -
OCR02926 - Mega Man 2 "Wily's Inferno"
OverClocked PodCast replied to Liontamer's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Oh, hmmmm, another Wily ReMix. I think I've had enough o' those, thank you very m-- Pardon? Nutritious AND WillRock? Okay, one more time. This arrangement had all the bombastic quality that I expected from the pair, but I just can't shake the feeling that every interpretation of Dr. Wily's theme has been done. That said, Will's synth solo at 1:14 won me over. What an exuberant, groovy sound! The orchestra kept the tone grand, but I wish it was more of a constant; it kind of disappeared there for a while. Good work to both of you, I want to hear more collaborations! -
OCR02925 - Castlevania: Bloodlines "Find Me"
OverClocked PodCast replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
A little repetitive and metal-tastic for my tastes-- HOWEVER. The creepy bits are so creepy that the wild, unkept guitar serves as good shock value and the finished product kind of rocks. -
OCR02921 - Super Mario Bros. "The King Awaits"
OverClocked PodCast replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
The mallets, while initially cute, eventually overloaded my brain and added to the frenetic terror that underlies the whole arrangement. I believe this is the music that would begin playing should baby spiders ever swarm out of my eyes. That said, I dig it. - Stephen -
Whoa. Okay, now that I've caught my breath, I can safely say that the whole "epic" thing was achieved. I quite like how the melody was teased and hinted at through a good fourth of the song, only to come in with fists flying over and over again until the end. Definitely hearing the sequenced nature of the song, but like evktalo, I'm cool with it. But man, what a ride!

OCR02918 - Tyrian "Data Flux"
OverClocked PodCast replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Wow, that's a beautiful intro. And then, next thing you know, spaceships are takin' off and stuff is happening! I agree with Shariq; the guitars are joyous, and that's the way I like them. They really hit that sweet spot that I can't get enough of. Maybe OA should ReMix this ReMix. -
OCR02917 - Getsu Fuuma Den "Dancing Spirits"
OverClocked PodCast replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I'm a little bit in love with 1:50. Of course, I was a little unsure when the piano was joined by a slightly generic synth sound, but I ended up enjoying that juxtaposition-- and the ending had a distinct, lovely sound to it. I like it! -
OCR02911 - Super Mario 64 "Hush Hour"
OverClocked PodCast replied to Liontamer's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I DID listen to this song while driving and I was laughing hard enough to endanger me and those in my vicinity. What a ridiculous raucous of an arrangement; so much fun, so much style. Might be my favorite song on the album, and that's saying something. It actually reminds me of , come to think of it.
