Warcraft 2 'Human Battle 1' - v2 (Oct 9)
Dafydd replied to Dafydd's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Rammstein? What songs? I listen to them a lot and I haven't really thought of them as industrial... maybe some of their older stuff? Nine Inch Nails - naturally. I should have thought of that myself I'll check Wolf Eyes out. Thanks! And yeah, the intro vocals are definitely an inside joke. I can see why someone who don't know what they are would think they don't fit in at all, since if you don't know its origin, it really doesn't have any connection to the game whatsoever. -
OverClocked ReMix Design ?'s and Issues

Right you are. Then again I wasn't saying that everyone actually did dislike them, only that I thought everyone did, and that was only a slight exaggeration, because I thought the vast majority actually did. And that belief was based on the few posts I'd read on the matter, which nearly all contained complaints about the color choices. I was merely misinformed, or ignorant, if you prefer. And I still am - I don't know how many people have approved of the new colors. Not everyone knows about this thread, either. -

Well, "everyone" was an exaggeration, but, yeah, the colors don't fit, and if changed for something brighter it would probably look ok. -

I thought everyone disliked them. I know I do, and I said so before, too. But you are not alone For I am here with you Though we're far apart You're always in my heart But you are not alone -
OCR01761 - Perfect Dark "Clandestine"
Dafydd replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
It's been way too long since the last PD remix. Nice to see something new here. I'm pretty sure the woodwind instrument used here is also used in one or several of the TW series soundtracks, which kind of bothers me but is hardly your fault. I think this mix a little too far from the source to be truly enjoyable for me, but it's a pretty interesting piece of music on its own, if somewhat dull. I guess I just wasn't in the mood for chill music today. -

Ok. The K page looks pretty funny now as there are lots more composers than there are games though. -

I don't see any screenshots... plus, when browsing, the tabs are gone! You used to be able to switch from browsing remixes to remixers to games... and now you can't. And I'm not seeing any screenshots. EDIT: Oh, it's only when looking at a specific remixer. I hope this feature will be extended to cover everything, and that whatever complaints I have about the new... uh, design, is the result of the design not being finished yet. That is, the tabs, the colors, the pictures only showing when browsing a certain remixer... Feels like it's been a long time since you were able to browse games with their screenshots next to their names, like it was when I first came here in 2002. Those were the days. -

Less scrolling, which is good. I kinda miss the little console icons though. And the colors kind of don't fit too well with the rest of the site (they're too dark). Would look better with the changes I suggested on the previous page though. -

Thanks. Regarding the voices, I was thinking I could change the intro voice so that it's in tempo when it screws up, so you're already in the right beat when the music starts. Also, the ogre mumble I thought I could introduce with a high pass filter sliding down so that it doesn't start so abruptly. And yes, after the ogres something heavier should come in. I'd still like someone to tell me where I can find industrial music. I understand the cravings for more metallic sounds, but I'd really like to hear some music that does this to give me some inspiration. Most people have their music on youtube these days, I just need a artist name... Also, is anyone else feeling that the bassline in the "soft" section seems to be playing the wrong notes? It's a result of playing notes simultaneously with the low NES sounds, but I don't know if anyone else is bothered by it. -

Can anyone recommend a band that plays the kind of industrial music you want this to evolve into? I don't really listen to that type of music myself so I wouldn't know where to look. -

Yes, that's what I thought. How's the issues subforum coming anyway? -
Ok, thanks for replying.

I noticed when viewing the info for a Sega Genesis remix that the system is listed as "gen". That is, Shouldn't it say "Sega Genesis" or at the very least "Genesis"? I'm down with NES and SNES, but "gen"? Also, when doing this for NES and SNES, it would look much better if they were written in capitals rather than the current lower case, that is, not but Same with PlayStation (now listed as ps1) and Game Boy (now listed as gb). There's room to expand these to spell out the full name of these consoles. Few people ever say "gb" (though possibly gbc and gba), even though many say "ps1", and "PSP" is fine too, but writing all of these in all lower case doesn't look good at all. From what I can tell, you should be able to fit most of these into the little console boxes in the remix lists too ("Windows" instead of "win" for example) -
Whatever happened to the project run by LT that tried to name all of the source tunes used in every remix? There's a lot of remixes out there that don't have their songs listed and when new remixes are posted they too often lack song names. Has this been given up? If the project is still around, please show me where, because I can't find it...

#1 Do (or did) you know about OCR's resources and guidelines, like the guides, the remixing forum, the #ocrwip irc channel, the checklist, the submission standards, the remixing tab, the tutorials category...? Everything but the "guides". #2 What's the main thing you want from the wip board, what kind of feedback? Criticism, advice, suggestions, general opinion, help, encouragement... something else? Applause! Seriously though, I like it when people can pinpoint whatever issue they have with my mix and give me some suggestions on how to fix it. Sometimes people critisize some very obvious things, but then again, I guess people should post near-finished mixes more often and not something they just started working on, as it leaves too much to critisize on and leaves the reviewer clueless as to what problems the remixer is aware of and not, unless the remixers have listed issues known to them by themselves. #3 What motivates you to review (if you do)? Game, remixer, genre, thread popularity... or...? If I have never even heard of the game, I'm not likely to enter the thread, unless it's posted by a remixer whose earlier remixes I've liked. #4 Do you have an idea for improving the WIP board (see list), an observation you'd like to share, or something else to say about the WIP board and its use and quality? I don't like how a lot of people just enter a thread, listen to the wip and don't comment on it. Also I'm a little unsure about linking to mp3 sources. All linking to and mention of Galbadia Hotel seems to be banned from OCR, so you'd have to host the source yourself or link to somewhere else, but I don't see how that could be any less illegal... -

You do know where the intro voice comes from, right? Or do you mean you want something more along the lines of "we are under attack"? -

I'm get more and more aware of this issue the more I listen to it. I need to cut away a number of measures (a third or so) just to keep this section of the song shorter so there's room for the rest of the source. -
You call "Fragments of Gold" funk?

Ahhh, so "jungle" refers to musical genre! The title sounds so much more correct in my mind now. Thanks. -

I still don't understand why he did it. Myself, I only know one person on OCR irl, and no one on the other forums I visit. -
Those are older than the site itself, or very nearly so. People never use them though. I'd explain what they are, but it's a long story... And yes, megaupload is teh suck. I like the playful flute in the beginning. This feels a lot like music from one of the newer Zelda games. And a little like circus music.
