  1. I haven't played MTG since high school and don't know shit about any sets since like Mercadian Masques, but fuck it, I'm down.
  2. What's all this I'm hearing about Reason being able to record? Wouldn't that require Propellerheads changing their minds about something? Impossible. That's like the Pope converting to Judaism. Next you'll be telling me Reason can host VSTs now. Hohoho I make joke! That will never happen. As for Reaper being "suck" and "so fucking buggy" and "NOT free" I'm afraid, Metal Man, you're the one that's misinformed. Have you even used Reaper? Maybe you're just doing it wrong.
  3. THIS. I use FL Studio myself, but that's because I'm so invested in it. I've been using it for 10 years, and it does everything I need. But if I were to start over again (or if I were a new guy just getting into this stuff), it would be with Reaper. It doesn't suck, it's got a proper 64-bit version, and it's free! Well, technically free. You need a license if you're gonna sell stuff made with it but I think that's still pretty cheap, like $50 or something. Reason on the other hand... It's not even a DAW. It's a tracker that thinks very highly of itself, with a broken GUI and a piano roll thrown in as an afterthought. No recording, no external plugins, terrible automation... Poor Propellerhead. So steadfast. So stalwart. It's a shame really. They know no better. Your question should be "Reaper or FL?" That's a real discussion.
  4. What hakstock said. Unless you have a bass solo section, the bass is gonna be pretty buried anyways. However, there are some decent free bass soundfonts out there (I don't have links on hand at the moment). Just keep in mind that when it comes to bass, how well it mixes is the most important thing. Another option if you're a guitarist, is to record the bass line on your guitar and resample it to an octave below, then run it through an amp sim. You can get surprisingly good results so long as you don't have a totally shit sampler. The default FL Studio sampler works fine for this.
  5. no offense but your computer is... lacking. you don't even meet the minimum requirements let alone the recommended. it might run, but it sure as hell won't run well. i sincerely doubt it will be even remotely playable.
  6. just draw your background relative to the x position of your dude (or the x position of your screen if it's not locked to your dude). divide it by whatever number feels right to you. like 2. so for every 2 pixels your dude moves, the background moves 1 pixel.
  7. I made my first ever video game remix in April 2002. I got my first OC ReMix posted in December 2002. So like, 8 months? (Note: Not the same song, though. My first 3 remixes got rejected, the 4th one accepted. If at first you don't succeed, flood Dave's inbox with garbage. You didn't hear it from me.)
  8. Hey so like, anyone else at QuakeCon?
  9. Final Fantasy, Nobuo Uematsu, Distant Worlds, OC ReMix. I'm in it to win it.
  10. So the guy said he'd like to work on Chrono Trigger (who wouldn't?) and they have jobs postings (who doesn't?). Seems like a stretch to me.
  11. Ultimate Songs from the Pit by Shael Riley and the Double Ice Backfire is due out any day now. In the meantime, for free, you can listen to the free kickstarter covers EP, or the free Grammar Club album MC Horse Rides Again! which are both free. Did I mention they're free? If your money is burning a hole in your pocket and you can't wait for Ultimate Song from the Pit you can buy our t-shirts or buy my other band Mozyiac's album on itunes or just paypal me some of that dough or something. Daddy needs a new video card.
  12. Silent Hill 2 - Promise I would post a youtube link, but Sony Music Entertainment can suck my shiny dick.
  13. I endorse this product or event.

  15. so i bookmarked this young composers site yesterday thinking i'd check it out when i got a chance had some free time this morning so i gave it a visit skimmed through the forums quickly realized this site is where all the pretentious all-knowing douchebag self proclaimed composition and theory wizards of the world go to shit on everyone that doesn't write orchestral music let alone people who god forbid can't sight-sing or dictate then sit around and furiously circlejerk each other until they chaffe and bleed to death deleted bookmark
  16. totally agreed. except i don't think a C&D is necessarily inevitable. nintendo is usually a lot more lax about that kinda thing than some other companies *cough*sega*cough*.
  17. Shadow of the Colossus Radiata Stories Katamari Damacy Metal Gear Solid 3 and/or anything from the GTA 3 series
  18. am i the only person that doesn't buy this story? smells like bullshit to me. a late april fools joke. my multiple sources have anonymously confirmed that next month the pope will reveal he is secretly a black ninja.
  19. i'm influenced by everything i like. if you want me to be more specific: the beatles, steely dan, stone temple pilots, asian kung fu generation, pink floyd, frost*, the commodores, capsule, uverworld, rage against the machine, claude bolling, yoko kanno, nine inch nails, brothers johnson, johnny cash, mew, jun ishikawa, pendulum, jake kaufman, antonio vivaldi, john mayer, soundgarden, sleepin johnnyfish to name a few! i don't think i really could say what the primary influences on my music are, i don't really have a defined style. but i draw inspiration from all of the above (and many more).
