  1. Sign me up for the last minute unfilled stuff.
  2. Since a couple people asked for a source breakdown, I've made a list of when each source appears in the mix, and a link to a youtube video with the part of the source used. I don't cover everything here, just first appearances. The rest should be easy to figure out. Mars: The Mars theme seemed to be Michael Jackson inspired, so I thought I'd take the next step by using the bass/strings and making them even more like Billie Jean. Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ryFo6TtpVEM In the mix: 0:00 Mercury: I used this and the next two sources to make that mechanical ep melody. Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L4mCnIHYKyk&feature=player_detailpage&t=7 In the mix: 0:15 Venus: Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=gMxXnXFsshE&t=12 In the mix: 0:18 Sunstar: Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-Mf3o7oVQ4&feature=player_detailpage&t=15 In the mix: 0:29 Pluto: Seems I wasn't the only one that liked this melody. =) Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_d7VAxbE6Kw&feature=player_detailpage&t=6 In the mix: 0:45 Saturn: Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=3MfgyQzt7Es&t=3 In the mix: 1:00 Dust Man: My theme, yay. Shame I didn't finish the transition for this. Was going to have a build instead of a fade going into it, then everything turning into chiptune. WillRock's guitar would also start as a chiptune instrument and gradually turn back into his guitar. The first things I tried didn't pan out. By the time I figured out how to make it work, it was Sunday afternoon and I hadn't even done the mixdown yet, lol. Link: In the mix: 2:32 Jupiter: My least favorite source. Still, seemed to sit next to Dust Man's theme just fine. 3. Yes, the good people at We Only Make a Bitcrushing Plugin Inc. have informed me that it is compatible with all major DAW's, including market-share leader Killer Studio Chops. They would also like me to mention that ever since Bitcrusher Magnum 4000X S.E. Diamond-Deluxe edition came out, it has received scores of accolades. Here are a few: "I used to waste time writing soundtracks, now I just put some 808 drumloops and clips from Beethoven tracks into Bitcrusher Magnum 4000X S.E. Diamond-Deluxe edition and collect my checks." --- Hans Zimmer "After using the Bitcrusher Magnum 4000X S.E. Diamond-Deluxe edition I realized just how futile mixing, and life in general, is without it." --- BT "I use it on all my newest work, whether that be an opera, a symphony, whatever." --- Mozart When asked about the Mozart blurb, the CEO of We Only Make a Bitcrushing Plugin Inc. simply responded, "Oh yeah!? Well if he were dead do you think he could've written that blurb for us?"
  4. Yes, there is. You might not have used a plugin called Bitcrusher Magnum 4000X S.E. Diamond-Deluxe edition, but there's still very clearly bitcrushing in your track. Remember that bitcrushing is just waveform value reduction. If you used lo-fi drums/sounds you've used bitcrushing as an element in your track regardless whether or not you did the processing yourself. I figured that's probably what were you were really saying, but couldn't be sure 'til you responded. I'm glad we were on the same page after all. Yes please.
  5. So, nothing. I don't think anyone thought it was a big deal. Darke's purposes may differ, but I see these compos as an opportunity for education and experimentation above all else. I don't think anyone is saying that they don't appreciate feedback. The scare quotes are unnecessary too, since both instances were objective matters, not subjective. Objectively wrong feedback is often just as useful. For example, in round 1, some people commented on the guitars in my mix. There were no guitars in my mix, but I learned that a certain synth sounded an awful lot like a guitar. It was a coincidence, but it made me think about the saturation/distortion methods I used on it and worked backwards. By the time I was working on my next mix, I had a functional pseudo guitar amp that I tested on WillRock's dry signal. I was actually able to replicate a simplification of the tone he used on the amped signal. I would've never thought to try this at all, had someone not called that synth a guitar. I doubt I'll ever use this to create a sim guitar (the real thing will always be better), but at the very least, it'll inform my methods when using guitars in the future. In Ben's case, he now knows that certain types of bitcrushing can be mistaken for clipping. He'll probably be careful about that from now on.
  6. There's no clipping at :08. There is, however, some heavy bitcrushing going on at that spot that does sound like clipping. But it's not. Also, you can still have clipping with a limiter, but you will almost never get it from total peak volume. (Don't forget about runaway freq peaks.)
  7. Sure, fine by me. 12pm ET the following day then -- exactly 13 hours later.
  8. I guess we're on for that 11pm ET listening party. For those that can't make it, how about another lp exactly 12 hours later, at 11am ET?
  9. Yea, I've been wondering about this too. I'm using all 10 themes, so I'm wondering if I should list them all or just put "The Stardroids", or "all", or something else.
  10. You should still submit what you have. You never know what could happen. My first round mix was kinda like that -- bit off way more than I could chew and didn't finish, but I'm glad I subbed it anyways. These compos are an opportunity for learning and experimentation above all else, imho.
  11. Your comment is a little unclear. Do mean they're missing? I know sometimes samples can get left out when interpolation settings are changed, or it could be some other bug. I'd try fiddling with the settings. If it comes down to it, you can also render at the highest bitrate mp3 you can, then rerender that mp3 as a wave.
  12. Well, I made a new age hip hop dnb track. Yea I know, ugh, not another one. So when/where is that listening party at?
  13. Love this source. =) Looks like I'll be going for Concrete Men 2.0 this week. Also, DarkeSword, could you please change my name to Jason Covenant on the roster? Thanks.
  14. Shrack's on my team with GLL; we are Concrete Men 2.0.
  15. I've been wondering when something like this would come along. I just might give it a try.
  16. IWD2 is my favorite vg ost. The cello is one of my favorite instruments and you play it beautifully. If no one else comments on this, know you've hit a home run with me. I hope you submit it.
  17. Yea, I originally picked him first, then saw how popular he was.... In other news, I've teamed up with GLL, and we're looking for a third person.
  18. 1. Shade Man MM7 2. Dust Man MM4 3. Metal Man MM2 4. Centaur Man MM6 5. Yamato Man MM6 Roster name: Jason Covenant. Looking for a team.
  19. Thanks guys for the well-wishes and kind words. I've gotten a lot done lately, and I feel like I've gotten my life back together enough that I can do fun stuff again (like this compo.) Anyone still wanna give this another try for some completion? The compo was an absolute blast and I'd love to see it finished.
  20. Round 8 mixes are up. Still recovering from what's ailed me. Round 9 will start this Sunday and last for 2 weeks. You can start voting now on round 8 mixes if you want. The deadline will be two weeks from this Sunday. Since there are again only 3 mixes, the same voting rules as last round apply. Round 7 results have been tabulated and will be revealed this Sunday, along with the start of Round 9.
  21. Yea, it's fine. I won't be getting to work on the uploads/votes til this evening anyways. Thanks guys for your well-wishes. I'm feeling a lot better now, though still out of sorts. Genes, just like orlouge82 and the gallbladder. Thankfully I didn't need surgery for this case.
  22. Yea, automation clips are fine. Sorry guys, but I think I'm going to have to extend things again. If you're wondering what's got me so down, I have an ear infection and pancreatitis. Basically, pancreatitis is when you have a blockage in your pancreas, which causes the enzymes created by the pancreas to be unable to reach the stomach to aid in digestion. As a result, they activate prematurely and your body begins digesting itself. I can't take any painkillers because it could exacerbate the internal bleeding. Fortunately, my case is acute/mild, and is already resolving itself. In the meantime, I'm still dealing with the symptoms, which, plus the ear infection, have rendered me fairly useless. So I'm just going to extend it to this Sunday, 2/24/13 at 2pm ET, like the old deadlines. If you've already turned in a mix, feel free to spruce it up a bit and send a new pm if needed. This new deadline applies to votes as well. I should be well enough by then.
  23. However you vote, make sure you do. I'm going to be extending the deadline one day since I'm fairly sick still and I don't think I'll be up for doing the stuff I do tonight. So rather than just let the entries sit in my inbox when they could be getting a little extra work, I think it better to give a little more time. Besides, it was a tough theme this past week anyways. So, entries are due 2/18/13 at 10pm ET.
  24. Sorry. It's fixed now. I've been fighting an ear infection thingy and my head has just been in a haze.
