  1. It's not a pie? Man I'm so disillusioned... Yes, I agree, very strange thread indeed. Someone type a long ass entry so we can turn the page.
  2. Well, you know how to make your stuff sound good, so just keep being self critical and I'm sure it'll all improve. My beef from listening to the original, and it did improve in the second version a little, is that I think the music relys a little to heavily on ambience. Most of the music in the first version you could almost add lightning strikes to and release it as a relaxation track. I think it could use more structured melody, and development of that melody, don't wander off too far or we might forget what song you're remixing. At about 2:27 of the second version is more like it. Not too sure about the rain effect either...doesn't seem to blend, it draws too much attention to itself I think.
  3. Lmao, I'm gonna call you sarcastro, the castro of sarcasm. Yeah, I got your sig. I had to squint to see if you turned the coin into a pie. I think you did. It's the subject of much debate here at NASA (eat sarcasm...sarcasm pie...mua ha ha...!!)
  4. <--- member since 2003 seeeeeeeeee I'm just clueless and lazy to have noticed this project before.
  5. I'll just pretend you said two months. I have enough fingers to count to that.
  6. Great sound! One of my favorite themes! Since I know what you can do, I won't spend too much time complimenting, although well deserved. So I'll just get to it, a few things to work out: The vocal at the beginning sounds great, a bit too great I think. I think the effect you're going for here is distance, it sounds like that vocalist is right in front of me, instead of under the mix, coming in and out. It's also a bit noisey to me, sounds like you did it on purpose though. Since nothing else in the mix is that noisey, it kinda sticks out. I think a little less velocity on that piano and more volume would add some emotion, for the first time it plays. The horn is in tune to me, but the attacks are late. I think it could use some verb too. I love horns that just fill a whole room. Thought I heard some clipping too, but I streamed the song so I can't say for sure, sorry. On second listen I didn't hear it. Nice work. Can't wait to hear finished.
  7. Finally got off my ass and found the forums. Posted some work, will update from now on. P.S. Put my name on the list bro! No track usurpers! Plus I'll feel all special warm and fuzzy.
  8. Just for fun I threw some samples on top of the gaia theme just to see what kind of sound I could get. The end result: http://www.jamesgeorgemusicandsound.com/files/gaia.mp3 It's a rip, I know, of course I'll arrange it if I work on it, but it'll give you an idea; consider it an audition. Not mixed or mastered either, so be lenient.
  9. You'll have to forgive me, I'm just too lazy to read. Plus I don't check Request forum that often so this thread is new to me. Sorry bout that. Well I got some new samples, so I'd hate to give you old crap. I have a submission on the judges panel now though: http://www.jamesgeorgemusicandsound.com/files/Visions_Of_Kin.mp3 It's kind of a tamer track though. If I do a boss theme, don't worry, I'll pull out the kick ass stuff, whatever I got.
  10. Want me to try a mix? I'm thinking probably Illusion of Gaia.
  11. I was just thinking last week that it might be cool to remix the Atma Weapon theme from FFVI (Orchestral). Any chance that boss list is flexible, or is it in stone already? That's okay if it is. I think I still might be interested in maybe tackling one, if you want me to. I'll pick one if 'ney' on Atma Weapon. Edit: Oh nm. I didn't see the voting ended part. Hmm...let's see...
  12. I haven't played PS4 unfortunately, so I'm pretty biased toward Chrono Cross. I think picking that game would increase the success of your project considering there are a lot of people like me who aren't familiar with PS4, but love CC. I'm pretty busy with school right now, but I may be able to help here and there with transcribing if anyone needs help. I haven't composed anything ultra serious in a while, but I do have years of experience with this sort of stuff. Look me up if interested.
  13. This sounds sooooo much better. Great improvements! I like the section added at 1:04 and 2:58...etc. It really gives the listener a break and makes the builds (like 3:28) more dramatic. Maybe they aren't really new additions (my memory sucks), but they definitely stand out now. Edit: I posted earlier that the bass hits sounded odd. Discovered someone had messed with some knobs on my mixer. They're fine, sorry bout that. Yeah, that ending doesn't sound like a violin, lol, don't worry. I think the other guy was right though in that a live player would end the note a bit softer. Do you have the same sample with a release control? Maybe process in some extra reverb on the end for blend, or add an extra piano chord near the release? Sounds ready to submit for me. Good luck!
  14. Lol, people kept calling a cello solo in my last mix a violin. I don't think it's your samples; they're fine. Probably just need to tweak the envelopes. Can't listen right now but I'll try and post again later. gl
  15. Gray - if you're reading this: Say hello once in a while you snob! Seriously, sucks you're gone. I returned to mixing to this site because you were on the panel, so I guess that's all ironic and such. Good luck buddy, don't be a stranger.
  16. Sounds good. I realize it may be too late for major suggestions, but I'll lend them to do as you like. First, while there's no question this mix sounds great, it walks the line between exciting all the time and droning. I might take some of the gradual changes and combine them, so the piece changes sooner and to a greater degree. Second, I like the break the ending gives, and it sounds beautiful; perhaps something like it in the middle? These are nitpicks of course, good luck!
  17. Sweet. I'm glad you finally updated this one, I really liked the first version. I wouldn't worry about the themes so much. You definitely brought out Sephiroth more compared to the last version. What you've done is interpretative and inventive, which is a direction I'm glad to hear rather than moving the other way and making it less inventive and "rip-ish". It seems you really want this one bass heavy, which makes sense given the themes you've combined. You might add some more upper range tracks; not to overshadow the bass, but to enhance it. I think the balance will help the overall drama in the bass. I also feel the bass is a bit dry sounding. Great orchestrally, but these themes could use a little more "ethereal nightmare" to me. Sounds bitchin, can't wait to hear finished.
  18. I think this sounds really nice. Forget if 3/4 fits the source or not. It stands well on it's own, so it doesn't really matter. This solution is much more creative. I think the bass line at the intro stays static for a bit too long considering you don't end up making it static on purpose. A few changes there might help. I'm not sure if this helps, but it seems to me that 1:25 and 1:37 seem awkward because they belong to the only sets of chords that don't move or change. Perhaps an inversion, or an added 7th, 9th, etc? I really like this though. I hope you keep going on it.
  19. This sounds a lot better to me now. At 0:52 there's an attack in the cello that's a bit strong, I think you should back it off like the previous notes. It comes out so suddenly it almost sounds random. I think you need a major change at 0:54 and where the melody repeats later.. I can't remember what the previous version sounding like, but for some reason, this section stuck out less in this version than I remember it doing before. I think changing the instrument that sounds like a pan drum doing the ostinatos would be good for that section. It has a good run for the "don't worry be happy" feel, but I think more of a build would help that section.
  20. Bump! No opinions? Really? Am I just annoying the hell out of everyone? Sorry if I am, seriuosly. Feels like I'm in #ocrwip or an album project thread again trying to get SOMEONE to say hello out here. Snobbies (j/k)
  21. I've been asking friends and family what sound they like for my WIP better, and people seem to be favoring the DSP I haven't been choosing (I seem to have a biased preference). So, I'd like to know what you guys think. I won't say which is which. Reverb 1 - http://www.jamesgeorgemusicandsound.com/files/verb1.mp3 Reverb 2 - http://www.jamesgeorgemusicandsound.com/files/verb2.mp3 Please do not comment on my wip here. The original thread is http://www.ocremix.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=89587. Feel free to comment on what you do and don't like about each in terms of acoustic sound.
  22. I'm sure you'll come up with some good stuff. My one suggestion might be to do some scary weird stuff with that melody. Something seriously psychotic emotionally, maybe even literally, might be fun. I dunno.
  23. Just so you know I'm fully prepared to be denied, but since I don't have any current aspirations for a new mix to work on, maybe you'd like to consider an orchestral mix from me? or maybe it's too late? I've been composing for a while now, but haven't produced a whole lot for OCR cuz my samples just plain didn't cut it. I just upgraded my system though, and I'm pretty sure I can cut it. My current WIP is posted: http://www.ocremix.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=89587 It's more minimalistic then I tend to do, getting used to the new system. If you want to hear something else closer to my composing style, I did a full orchestral Kid Icarus mix: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=447695 The samples suck ass so don't judge the quality. The Wild Arms mix is my current quality. Let me know, I could probably get something done in a month or two. Less if school goes easy on me.
  24. An eeeeerie mix. Dig it. Gets a bit repetitive. You've got the hairs on my back standing. Now scare the !@#! outta me.
  25. I barely remember Lufia 1 and 2, but if I remember right they were almost exactly the same game. If I'm wrong, just call me old; I feel old Definitely dig the drums and mood. Feels kinda african and pan-asian at the same time. A bit percussion heavy now, but I'm sure that'll balance out as you finish it. Maybe some exotic instruments or riffs? Good work!
