  1. Ouch, well yeah I admit I didn't fully understand the hardware limitation in the other post, I do feel pretty stupid about that. But I definitely know from experience how impractical 64 bit upgrading is right now. Unless you know for sure the support is there from all the necessary publishers, it's ridiculous to do for 4 GB of RAM, totally not worth it, just trade one problem for another. But thanks for the blanket "wrong stupid ass doucebag!" post, always helpful in the help forum.
  2. Hmm, I stand corrected, but thanks for being polite and helpful about it. My sister-in-law was told her whole life growing up that there are two kinds of chickens, one that lays chicks, and one that lays eggs for the store, and was shocked to find out later in life that was not the case. I feel about that stupid right now yeah, lol. My knowledge on the subject was based on some trusted friends and resources, but when I looked into it I couldn't believe I hadn't seen this info before. If you don't mind my asking though, what do you know about XP SP2 and PAE mode? I think that's what I might be misinterpreting. I don't get the support for more physical addressing, yet it seems like turning it on actually hides more memory. All the info I've found is way too jargon-ish. Seems like if there's more bits for addressing, why wouldn't there be plenty of room for the i/o devices and RAM? or is it all still bound by hardware limitations regardless?
  3. Do not go 64 bit! I don't know what Phil is talking about but Windows XP actually does use all 4 gigs. It just reports "available" memory. The rest it is hogging for itself, which is fine really, it needs it. they fixed this in vista 32bit SP1 (it will say 4 gigs, proof it addresses it all just fine), but other than just changing the memory reported to "installed" memory, it's all the same, no performance difference. If your BIOS is reporting 4 gigs, you're just fine.
  4. Sounds like I'm too late to really be of any help, but yeah it sounds like you were using upgrade discs and not full retail copies. What nobody has mentioned yet is why you even had 64bit in the first place. 4 gigs of RAM is the maximum XP 32bit can address, and should be what you use, 64 bit with your specs is a complete waste, not to mention the lousy 64 bit support that exists for many applications in this environment, which I would not be surprised was the cause of your slowdown if your hardware and OS turn out fine. Also, while a chkdsk in windows isn't always definitive, it's faster than some of the detailed scans you're trying, might consider that as well. Restoration 2514 (google it) is also a handy tool for recovering in XP, no trials or any of that crap. Anyway, I troubleshoot slow systems all the time, shoot me a PM if you ever need help.
  5. Today? Meh, I'll do it tomorrow. Ha ha, love of Canada, *snort*
  6. I think we're all pissing in the wind at this point.
  7. I think it'd be really important to know exactly what type of music you are looking to make. There's typically three different ways to go about it: Recorded: Using live recording techniques and mics, and mixing the source down into something professional. Sample-based: Triggering prerecorded samples through MIDI (which is what I'm guessing you want because you mentioned your keyboard). Trick with this is, you need samples, not just a midi keyboard and Sibelius. I would also say looped based music falls in this category, I think garage band is looped based. Middleware/tools based: I don't know a lot about this type, but essentially it's the same process for making chiptunes and old nintendo style music, which I think nintendo actually still uses. It usually requires third party development tools so the developer can integrate the programming and designed audio directly into their game. It might be good to know about the genre, scope, platform, etc. of your game. Perhaps knowing what other type of game you're trying to emulate as well. I'm trying to market myself as a game music professional these days. I don't know everything, but I've done music for a game or two. Feel free to catch me on MSN jamesbgeorge@gmail.com if you want to ask any direct question or could use collab help.
  8. There aren't many reasons to visit Utah, but if you're looking for an arcade it's a good one. Besides the mall chains that are still around, there's a chain of Nickelcades all over the Wasatch front. They don't fix broken machines worth a damn, but for the money it's a great, disturbingly nostalgic good time.
  9. Ditto, started as A, now I'd say C.
  10. I can appreciate the intention behind telling people to try new music, but I think in reality, the market just doesn't work that way. Nobody would listen to a radio station that said "Now I know you think you don't like country, but try this..." I think ocr should support genres searches, just not only genre searches of course.
  11. Somehow the remixes I do for this site all end up chill and melodic. Not to toot my own horn either but my Wild Arms remix was compared to Manheim Steamroller if I remember.
  12. That kid, guy...well hell I guess he/she could be a 70 year old woman for all I know...was the most intelligent person I've met on here. I remember when he was new and I was posting WIP comments on his first mixes. One or two years later he's blown me out of the water with his quality and style and already a freaking judge. I'll bet he was real, and I'll bet he misses remixing. If he's like me, he got some hottie pregnant and real life all but ended his online escapades.
  13. Guess the measure of a good remix is how badly I want to play the game again. In that case, epic mix bro. You actually gave me flashbacks.
  14. Thanks to everyone who took time to submit. Had a lot of submissions, more than I expected, so it was very difficult to choose. Wasn't sure whether or not to announce who we used, but decided in the end it was appropriate to do so here so nobody thinks I just left them hanging. We went with Jason (Strike911) and Steven Kelly, congratz guys. Again, thanks a ton to everyone else who put in time and effort to help us out as well, it wasn't easy to decide trust me.
  15. Oh I didn't quite mean that, I still prefer an AMD chip to Intel myself, don't mean to outright slam AMD. But in my case for instance, it's the original GVI; the last update to that software was years ago. Tascam would have to re-patch that old software to make it work for some new chips, in my case a Phenom 2.5 GHz, and you can bet they won't, ever. That's all I mean: using AMD opens you up to crap like that. Lucky for me, I didn't care about those intruments anyway, but had to figure it out to find out why old projects stopped loading after I updated my CPU. With Intel you don't hear so many complaints from audio enthusiasts, at least not on the boards I've seen.
  16. I recently went from dual core to quad core, both AMD chips, many argue dual core is better but I had my reasons , here's what I learned: Forget just speed, my programs actually started behaving differently for some tasks. In fact, I lost all ability to run GVI factory instruments anymore, now the app just crashes if I even try. Did some research and found that some AMD chips can be very audio unfriendly by design, due to architecture. You can try updating your chipset, may show some improvement, but from my research and your own post, seems like Intel chips are just better for audio. And zirc is totally right about the OS. My dual chip ran 2-3 faster in windows vista than xp. Vista might have its issues but it can sure rock a dual core cpu.
  17. Also, remember that keyboards in the sense you're thinking, are really just controllers delivering messages using MIDI. Most programs worth their salt will also let you alter midi messages using your mouse too, probably even have Piano Roll to make it look familiar.
  18. Cool. I've had about 4 people interested so far besides you two. There really isn't a lot of work to do, so I just decided rather than audition people, just send me a recording of what we do need, and we'll choose among best assets we get. I'll PM you guys the lines we need. Since I've got a pretty good response I'm putting a due date of Tues, Jan 13th on this. Anyone still interested before then just email me, after that just consider this thread dead. Thanks again everyone.
  19. Not sure if this should be here or non-remix WIP board, but probably better exposure here, so here goes: Working on a pet project with some friends doing music and audio for a small war game. I had a friend of mine lined up to do some soldier voice overs, but he's flaked out, and I tried using my own voice. Big mistake. You know those nerds that record themselves re-enacting star wars scenes that coincidentally sound just like nerds re-enacting star wars scenes? Well yeah, I kinda sound like that. So yeah, anyone (who can act and sound like a soldier) who'd be willing to spout a few lines into a mic for me would be greatly appreciated. I can only offer you love and credits, but hey I'm working for free too The game is still being developed, and buggy, but feel free to check it out: http://totaltacticalwarfare.blogspot.com I may not check this tread every day, so please email directly at maestrodeclure@aol.com if you'd like to help.
  20. I guess it stands to reason that as consumers are buying up systems that can compete with PC platform gaming, and more complex operating systems are made to handle it, glitches are just going to happen. I'm just glad PS3 can patch itself I guess. Update your PS3 come to think of it, that could definitely be a factor.
  21. I get game saves off the net all the time on my PS3, not sure what your issue is being caused by. I do know it's important to have the folder structure correct, you can't just copy the save file alone. Dunno if that's your deal, and it sounds like it isn't, but just thought I'd add that. I forget exactly what it is but just try to pull a game save off gamefaqs.com or something, you'll learn.
  22. Hmm, cool thread. Been a while since I been on the boards (have more free time lately), so I'm sorry if I ask any question already asked. 1. Seems like you guys know each other irl, at least some of you. Which judges know each other irl, and is knowing each other ever a factor in becoming a judge? 2. Do you guys get paid? or just paid in love? conjugal love?
  23. survey monkey says no such link, site down maybe? Try again tomorrow...
  24. One hit deaths. Battletoads final level. Megaman wall spikes. Two games smashed into pieces in a fit of rage. Need I say more.
