@TheVideoGamer Dude... Damn you've got good tastes.
IDK if this is just freakin' coincidence or a beautiful freak accident, but I'm already excited to try these together.
Somehow the choices are damn-near perfect, and operatic too?
    Yass, love it. ♥

    The People's Remix Competition 421
    PRCv18-02

Hello everyone and Welcome to the People's Remix Competition!
Last year ended great with a good PRC418 followed by an even bigger PRC419 Anniversary round. The winners of those rounds, TheVideoGamer and TheVodouQueen both selected a source for this round.
    Source 1:

Source 1: Rave Racer - Teknopera

To submit a song at the compo page you can use the ThaSauce page. If you use this, an account is required. If you don't want to use ThaSauce, please upload the song somewhere else and post a download link in this thread. I recommend Soundcloud, don't forget to allow downloads to enable me to upload the song at ThaSauce. I will keep using ThaSauce as the place where all songs are located.
If you want to use ThaSauce, the following steps should be done.
Click http://compo.thasauce.net/rounds/view/PRC421. Click the 'You are not logged in' button in the upper right. Click on 'register' (at the bottom). Read the terms and click 'I agree to these terms'. If you don't agree with them, upload the song somewhere else and post a download link as mentioned above (by doing that, you allow me to upload the song at ThaSauce. Continue the process by filling in your information. You will get a question to confirm that you're not a robot. Here are some possible answers: Name a compo: PRC Who organizes One Hour Compo: Starla Name a ThaSauce subdomain: compo.thasauce.net Who created Mega Mans: Capcom A confirmation mail will be send. There might be some issues with it (meaning that you don't get it), if that is the case, upload the song somewhere else as described above.
Once registered, login with your username and password, go to the mentioned page and submit the song. If you want submit two or more songs you can create multiple ThaSauce accounts or upload the song somewhere else and post the download link.
After uploading your song, please check if your song plays and can be downloaded and played without problems. Only upload MP3 files.

    PRC instructions
The deadline is Saturday February 6th 2021 at 10:59 am ThaSauce time (18:00 UTC, 19:00 GMT), check the ThaSauce page for the exact time left. Make sure that the song is uploaded to ThaSauce or that there’s a download link posted in this thread. +3 Days. You may enter as many mixes as you like and work with as many people as you like on each mix. You are free to create a second ThaSauce account for that if you use ThaSauce, it's needed to be able to upload a second remix if you use ThaSauce. Of course you can also upload it somewhere else and put a download link in this thread. Do not make qualitative comments on an entry until the results of the vote have been posted in this thread. Mixers cannot vote for themselves but if they vote they receive a free first place vote added onto their score. The winner of this round may select the source for PRC423, the round after next round. The winners of PRC418 and PRC419, TheVideoGamer and TheVodouQueen both can participate by remixing the source selected by the other or remixing both in one song. If they don't participate with a song (or submit a bonus song) they have a vote which counts twice. You can find the full rules list at this page as well. The Multiple Source Rounds Rules apply. So remixing both sources in one song will be rewarded with a three point bonus.
    GOOD LUCK!

@anachromium Man, if I could, I would--but it's been so many years since I've touched acoustic guitar or flute I would probably fail pretty hard on it without substantial practice. Kinda wish I never sold my old band flute TBH. Acoustic guitar also needs new strings.
@TheVideoGamer Woot. \o/ I mean mine's pretty experimental, but I thank you specifically for the inspiration. ♥

Thanks.  That is very true... Glad you found a place here.  This community will be around in some way shape or form for a while yet, I reckon.  Best of wishes to you.  If you're in the Thasauce Discord, you can find me there.  Also, I think someone gave me a Beta-build CPU.  Faulty wiring...beep boop X_X

@HoboKa Well, it's sure be fun for me at least. I've enjoyed hanging around these compos (MnP and PRC) the past few months than I ever did lurking about in the remix workshop, giving out 2-bit advice. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy letting folks know I like their stuff, but always felt impersonal, distant. The little community here, I feel like I have a place. As that guy who doesn't seem to know how to compose without at least 3 tracks of stringed instruments XD. Hang in there, boss. At the end of the day, we're all folks staring at our computers, making music and sharing it with folks who could be robots for all we know (my serial number is #64813490, in case you're wondering.) Take a breather, do something nice for yourself.

Got something submitted! It's not exactly a joke entry, but I certainly thought of TheVideoGamer when I made it. My first memory of his work was his entry in MnP 117... Let's just say that my remix sails in the morning.

I don't mind, no offense taken! Specific critique like that helps me reflect on my work and find ways to improve.
On that note, I have gotten feedback on various projects that some instruments (most often the violin, imagine that!) sounded a tad shrill. I wager that it probably does get shrill sometimes by accident, which I'd sure like to fix! Do you (or anyone for that matter) know any methods to address shrill instruments, EQ or otherwise? I'd love to learn how to avoid my organic samples coming off harsh.

An impressive genre choice for this source. I enjoyed it, even though I'm not familiar with this kind of music. The airy, wavy qualities of the instruments put quite a twist on this song. It's short and sweet, like a spider cider donut.

Wassup Thunder got a reaction from bloopasan in Fellow composers, do you ever find yourself locking into a style? If so, what is your reaction?
I guess artists of all kinds will have some degree of dissatisfaction with our work, but its good to have some introspection and evaluate how you're doing on style, quality, and such. I've personally found it a little satisfying when two or more of my songs sound similar, as though they belong together in an album. My stance is to embrace the kind of music you instinctively want to create. But it's good to make a conscious effort to try other things as well.
On feeling locked in a style, my friend, Souperion, and I often joke about how much we use violins and other strings in our composition. We tried daring each other to not use any string instruments in songs, but most often I gravitate back to the instruments and styles I've used before.
To draw on baking for an analogy, music is similar to baking a cake: Many chocolate cakes have been made before, but mine will have the frosting, colors, and layers that I like in it. And Reece's Peanut Butter Cups. Lots of peanut butter cups. So keep making cake.
